@@REPerformanceUK how much do you idiots sting people for doing this? The fact that you charge people astronomical prices for this is absolutely ridiculous. People are going through a cost of living crisis, and you idiots are charging people out of house and home! You should be doing all of this work for free considering people have already suffered enough when they have an engine failure. This is THE BIGGEST PROBLEM with CAPITALISM. Robbing morons.

Watching this is confirmation that my late Father taught me properly. While the engines I've rebuilt have only been for myself and not of the performance variety, I was taught to use the same processes, the same attention to detail and the same level of cleanliness I'm watching here. Still haven't had anything put a leg out of bed. Yet. 😂

Thank you so much Ricky for sharing. The story of your mentor whilst you were being trained made me remember about my mentor. I remember the first two years, I hated him but after serving my time and unfortunately, he passed away after me completing my apprenticeship. I missed him so greatly, but was so glad I was taught by him and had so much respect for him. Your attention to detail is how precisely I was taught by him and I enjoy everything you share on your channel. So a big thank you and also for your camera man, for the hard work recording every episode. 👍👍👍

Really enjoyed watching this one. The care and attention to detail is awesome. It’s so refreshing to know that there are still people out these who truly take the time to do a job right. Quick question ( please excuse my ignorance ) - the little extension used when stretching the rod bolts, does the extension have any impact on the readings of the torque wrench ? If it does, is there a factor taken into account based on the length or offset of the extension ? I wondered the same when watching Mat Armstrong torque down the cylinder head bolts on his Lambo engine using the funky little tool. Does the offset extend the length of the lever ? ( the “m” in Nm ) ??
@Daggerit
@Daggerit Год назад
You should technically reduce the torque setting on the wrench by the appropriate amount, as you've alluded to. In this case he appears to be tightening to a certain stretch with the toque wrench set to a maximum allowable setting rather than an actual torque so it matters a little less. Very valid point though.
@ShalomBrother
@ShalomBrother Год назад
Does the little extension for doing the piston caps not throw your torque readings off? When I’ve had to use a crows foot in electrical panels I was always told it had to be at 90 degrees to the torque wrench to give an accurate torque 🤷🏽‍♂️
@jamesbryan88
@jamesbryan88 Год назад
On the Snap On torque wrench, you can set the extension length in the menu and it will calculate the required torque value to compensate.

when making up the rod bolts and using the extension does that not change the torque value? i.e increasing the arm length by adding the additional 75mm or so? 1m torque wrench set at 62Nm with ~75mm extension would increase to around 67Nm. or you were relying solely on stretch to get the exact spec
@ianmills1120
@ianmills1120 Год назад
Torque = Force (N) x distance (M) So yes you are absolutely correct.
@REPerformanceUK
@REPerformanceUK Год назад
Yes I’m changing the torque value but remember I’m not torquing the bolt, I’m stretching it using the gauge. The torque wrench is to make sure I’m not surpassing the max permissible value set by the bolt manufacturer….it’s why the wrench was set lower. I have worked out how much the offset wrenches change the torque by.

At the factory they don’t lube every part like you do, they just wrench it with torque. No assembly lube, just oil and dry treats. Have you’ve asked the engineers opinion or a material expert of the factory production line on this? It seems to me it’s a theory that’s build in your head, but in reality doesn’t make any difference, as long as torque specs are even across the block and in a certain range.
