Despite the 70 being almost finished, I wanted to go to Adirondack Live Steamers fall meet, so I packed up the 70 and enough parts to get her going. When I arrived, I got things ready to work on and took a break to enjoy some of the other visiting trains. Later, Harrison from @North Country Trains helped with the wiring while the @R's Trains! crew worked on their headlights.
After dinner and some music, it was time to head back to my campsite and get ready for more running in the morning. The video wraps up with a brief look at what was done on the 70.

Missed this one. That is why I thought the wheel assembly was on the solid frame and not suspension. Nice job.

That ALS venue is so impressive. Something eye catching around every turn. Why does the song "She'll be coming around the mountain" pop into my head when I see #70 3.0 chugging along?

Wonderful locomotive! Since you reused the frame, the 70 would be considered remanufactured in the full size railroad world. I love the SW1500. Interesting that it is painted in Union Pacific colors. I could be wrong but I think the UP has retired all of its ex Southern Pacific SW1500s. I remember when I was spending the summer of 1979 in my Grandparents home in Downey California, that almost every weekday during the late afternoon/evening, that an SP SW1500 would be hauling what seemed to be a long local or transfer train on a line that was a scant couple of blocks from us. I counted more than 60 cars once. And it would even have tri level auto racks in the consist.

The 70 is definitely remanufactured. It was built in 2010 as a Mr-Motion Shifter. Rebuilt in August 2022 as a Mill Brook Manufacturing ES-2-500R.

Steam, nice! Love these meets. Thanks for sharing with us. I am leaving in two hours on an hour or so drive headed east to be the engineer on a full size narrow gauge 0-4-0 for a few hours today. Nice work on the 70 so far. She is looking really good. Thanks for a great video! :)

Great job overhauling the 70, looks like it ran great for its test run.

Baking soda mixed with water, sprayed on areas of acid, makes an easy way to neutralize the acid. If it foams, keep spraying

Looks like there was a bad storm with all the trees being down along the trackside

There was a bad storm. It dropped a lot of trees across the track in several places just a few weeks before the meet.

Congratulations on your successful out-of-town tryout before opening on Broadway! May 3.0 long be remembered as the best of the 70's. Now what's that about a nose job and more cosmetics?

Capital job on the no. 70 rebuild. Where did you obtain that soldering station? Enjoyable video.
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad 2 года назад
The soldering station came from Amazon. It's a cheap version of a Weller rework station I used to have.

you should add some side bars once you get it all together it would be sweet to see the 2.0 version with a little more detail this little switcher reminds me of the old switchers they used back in the 50s

She’s back! She’s back! The 70 is back! Congratulations! Just curious, how fast can this locomotive actually go? Have you ever actually opened it up full throttle? Also, this version seems to run a lot quieter than before.
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad 2 года назад
I brought it to full throttle a few times but I didn't check the speed. It's geared for 8MPH.
@WhiskeyGulf71

I can’t believe i need to say this, you just cannot mix old & new batteries ! What happens is the new battery will push current backwards though the old battery, essentially reverse charging it which is why it boiled. Chances are you have done irreversible damage to both batteries.😢
@mdouglaswray
@mdouglaswray 2 года назад
Would cog belts instead of chains be worth trying? Might be quieter, not that the chains are that noisy.

I'm curious what is the running time and the series batteries your running in that fine loco???
@MillBrookRailroad
@MillBrookRailroad Год назад
I'm using group 27 deep cycle marine batteries. I ran all weekend and only charged for a couple hours on Saturday and a couple hours on Sunday. That's with one battery at the end of its useful life and the other one brand new. Something I don't recommend doing.

@@MillBrookRailroad Wow thats great. The dynamic breaking must really work good to keep the usage of battery power to a minimum.

If I had the money in a little more time I would have built my train to look like Lionel locomotive and rail cars of the '50s '60s and 70s but in Steam
