Apologies for the interruption at the start of the video. I really enjoy this stuff and would love to be able to transform this to something more than a hobby/side hustle one day, so I can spend more time creating, exploring, and sharing the many ideas that clang around in my head. I figured I might as well try a few things to work toward that goal. Huge thank you to those who have supported me in the past and have helped me grow the channel to its current state!
Absolutely love your videos! Your content is so in-depth and everyone here can tell how passionate you are about helping others and being transparent. Great vibes man keep doing you!!
After weeks of aches and pains I gave up on Pi with SSD & HASSIO and went the intel route. No hickups ever since. It'll be interesting to see what your experience is.
@@LEDGardener It crashed and wouldn't boot with no rhyme or reason to it, no errors to debug. Looking around in the forums lots of people abandoned their pis for continued use so that's what I did as well. This was about a year ago. I don't even remember if it was a pi3 or pi4. Maybe the pi3 was the issue? It worked ok on an sdcard for a while but that's not a reliable setup it seems. I'm happy with my old HTPC as host. Glad to hear that your experience with a pi4 is positive.
Your videos are awesome man. they have helped me a lot to automate my grow. What did you use to design a PCB? I got zero experience in PCB design but you made me wanna make my own. your setup is sick AF! do you have a video for making the magnetic stirrer?
Thanks! I used EasyEDA for the PCBs. I had zero prior experience as well. I have not yet covered the stirrers but they’re pretty simple. Super glue a stack of magnets on one side of a little PC fan, and another stack oriented in the opposite polarity of the first, on the other side of the fan.
Can you use a power tablet to automate everything using home assistant? I was just thinking that a good tablet has the computing power just like a raspberry pi but minimizing the foot print and cost. BUt I cant wait for the next one! I know the next one will be good. I hope that in the next video you can enlighten us what is the end product of your automation (what are your going to automate, what you cannot, and maybe what can you automate in the future).
Check out the this page for info on what you can run H.A. on: www.home-assistant.io/installation/ Thanks for the feedback regarding the automation goals. I'll make those clearer.
So now I gotta buy more hardware so I don't botch my ~380 garden plants.....well surely I will. How long will an SD card last? I just got my monitoring and basic control up and running but I can't have lights turning off and pushing things into flowering. I also need to figure out a better watering solution. It's so time consuming.
I've been trying to get home assistant to work behind an NGINX proxy itself. I can't seem to login, it tries to log me in using google, and it fails to work. :(
@@LEDGardener shoot. Well I've been trying to get it working for months, and I can't get it. Their web backend is absolutely terrible when it comes to best practices, so its a nightmare to use it any other way than their "ideal setup". Or just giving complete control to it for my entire local networks web services.
@@LEDGardener nah. It's cool man. I hope you get all the support you need to go full time and support your families future!! They'll be fed for sure! ;)
Good stuff! Running an ssd on the 3b+. I actually was having “bootleg” sd cards die on me. Now share that pcb design!! 💚 Sending good vibes your way man!
The 3B+ can actually do decently well with an SSD, I've found! I have been swapping all my gear around as I make this series so I've tried a few different permutations of Pis and storage. As for the PCB, I'll get there soon :D
A lot less expensive and more flexible to DIY set up a NodeMCU or WeMOS microcontroller with sensors, code them in Arduino, and write a simple web page in JS to display the results. The only thing my Raspberry Pi does is operate as a MySQL database server to record the results.
