Considering how primitive the starting point was, that's a vast improvement. Exterior shape has some character at least, and the interior feels functional and lived in. And yes, the lighting makes a huge difference.

Hey, I got an idea that might be cool for a mini series of videos. You could ask your fans to send to you the best ship they have, and then you can showcase it and give advice on what could be improved design wise, but also in terms of functionality. You might want to include more in one video or be more detailed on only one craft. You could also rework some of them!

This is insanely cool. I like the idea of taking old, outdated looking designs and showing some of the thought process in making them look good. Maybe you could even take subscriber submissions for "upgrading" their ships into something that actually looks good. Could be a great source commentary and advice for aspiring ship designers.

You're my favorite ship builder in Space Engineers, I like your style, your methods and the overall survival-friendly functionnality of your ships. Those ship evolution videos are the best, I sure want to see it for this one. Making the useful beautiful in a visually methodic way is your unique special signature. You contributed to help people have an easier time with the difficult process of ship designing, engineering and building.

I'd like to imagine this as a multiple-generation successor of the original. It still keeps the spirit of the original build but overtime as new techs and building techniques have been discovered and have been made widely available, it has advanced with the times. This strikes me as the last in its model line some 50-100 years ago and bought and refurbished by a pilot who needed a cheap but reliable ship to get themselves started. It's definitely seen some battle as well and I like the story just the overall look and feel of the ship tells

I do a complete rebuild of my first ship every 500 or so hours, then every once in a while i'll paste in all of the ships just to take a moment to review all the changes i made and give myself ideas for future improvements. I think i have over a dozen blueprints of my first ship all sequentially numbered.

I've been struggling with designing my first ship (1,750 ish hours of playing with other people's ships). Building the ship out of blocks first would never have occured to me.

Great job, it ended up really nice and all the space was thoughtfully used! Once you finish the overhaul shape at the start of the process, how do you carve the interior? do you have any tips for this step? I never tried doing it this way, instead i always place the modules/conveyors first with a general idea in mind and add armor afterwards, but doing so make the end result look always a bit different from what i expected. Anyway thanks for the vid, will wait for the blueprint :)

Lighting and shape matter way more than color to me. I use exactly 2 colors, if you don't count my (obvious from profile) magenta accenting. Those two colors are gray and lighter gray. I still end up making extremely impressive and bold (Not my words, I still think they look borderline garbage half the time) creations without the color pallet, specifically because of the way I utilize lighting. Colors are more or less just accents for the externals and indication of a faction or design series. Wood texture's a different story, but wood isn't steel. It shouldn't be solid gray, it needs a lil orange mixed in there.

My question is why do i keep seeing a step delta design all the time in SE? I've thought to 180 the design to both protect the thrusters and put most guns to a 270 to 360 degree design putting the fattest part up front granting protection front for your thrusters while increasing front armor and bot compromising your field of fire.

Huh. It doesn't retain the Hangar Bay nor does it have a couple of smaller guns for protecting against fighters. Still a very good improvement overall.

Space Engineers somewhat has the same appeal as minecraft in the context of being a sandbox survival. Space Engineers selling point is using your Survival Playtrough to engage your creativity by engineering machines that revolve around the playstyle you like. What i did when i started that i still do after 600 hours is build ships and rovers i use in my Survival Scenario and save them into my blueprints in one big Archive of fun things that have brought me joy. What i like about Space Engineers is the joy spending time in my Sandbox even if its not doing much of anything. Your best bet is to start with small function-driven grid ships you can and have a notepad with collapsing goals on how to surround yourself with Small and Large grids in a playtrough no matter how crude your creations are. You can always go back and restructure things to look or feel more appeasing. Play Space Engineers with the idea that there is no time limit to rush yourself into anything, thats how i enjoy playing.

Looks great, but this method of building is really inefficient, if you want to get a practical and efficient design you should start with functional parts and interior planning and then encase it all in a hull instead of first making a hull and then trying to jam everything inside of it while using an ungodly amount of conveyors to connect everything. What your ships are is art without the proper engineering part and I respect that, but please clarify that in your videos so people don't get the wrong idea how you should go about building things in this game if they want them to be actually useful and efficient.
