You are the only video the documents the floor. Our rear supports were just hanging down and i thought it was a design flaw, not realizing to bolt the frame sides to the flooring. Thanks for the final piece of the puzzle.

I guess they made them different in 1976 because I have a 1976 shyster 27 foot and everything’s all original in that and the skeleton structure was instead of one by tubes it was two by twos just like a normal mobile home from the 60s

You're doing an excellent job on your LoFlyte! I started mine back in 2009, and believe it or not, I plan on finishing it, LOL. I didn't do a total frame off reconstruction, I replaced the rotted floor sections and replaced the carriage bolts, I did add a steel framing support across the back trailer frame to strengthen the back corners of the floor. I removed all the metal skins to address the rotted wall and ceiling framing. I kept some of the original wood framing but the front and back walls fell apart like yours did, as did lower side wall framing and all the wall corners. I've restored the kitchen and dinette cabinets and rebuilt the existing refrigerator & pantry cabinet. Like you I removed the bunk bed. I cleaned up our metal skins but there were pin holes in most of the bottom siding sections, so I used a drill and wire brush to clean the panels, taped the holes from the outside and painted over the holey areas with a layer of JB Weld and painted with a good aluminum primer. Updated the electrical system to 30 amp, added an AGM battery in a sealed and vented box. A lot of the water damage in ours seemed to be from our chimney fridge vent, so I removed it and tried to patch the opening and other cracks in our old roof. Tried to reinstall roof metal last year and it was about a 3/16" to narrow, possibly from crowning where I added framing for a fantastic fan. So I ordered new roof metal which I'm going install it hopefully in the next week or two (with the help of Larry's Canned Ham videos. You're doing great and seem to making quick progress. Thanks for posting your videos, they're a great inspiration. Yours is the best LoFlyte build I've seen online. I have some of my pics on Instagram, under Ragman_69. Nice garage too!

Love it! I’m redoing one almost just like that and I’ve been surprised at how well it’s held up compared to other old campers I’ve worked on.

And just for those who are trying to figure out what kind of bolts to use to make it so that your camper living space is bolted down to your campers trailer frame you’re supposed to use grade 8 bolts

the project is very interesting because you can see well how it was built in the past. Are you sure that the walls are half inch plywood?
@The_Heights
@The_Heights 11 месяцев назад
Everything was built exactly to spec, same materials, but in a lot of places reinforced much better than the original build. It’s the interior cabinets/furniture, etc. that connects the walls floor and ceiling together that gives it its strength they were built this way to be lightweight.

Do you have anymore updates on your shed? How much did the mini split AC cost? Does it keep the building cool enough? What about condensation
@The_Heights
@The_Heights Год назад
Sorry about that I didn’t see this comment… I have not yet put in the mini split… For now, I tend to always have the doors open and my big shop fans on and that is good enough. There are zero issues with condensation so far… But the mini split that I will eventually go with is a Mr. cool brand and it is around $1900 I’ve seen it used in the shop very similar to mine, and it seemed to work great

great video! about to start a rebuild on a 1956 westerner and found this super helpful. do you plan on wrapping/waterproofing the frame before putting the shell back on? also, will you be insulating?

Thanks! That’s awesome… Yeah, there are two more videos after this one on my channel that showed the prep work and what I’ve done up to today to answer all those questions 👍🏼

This is gonna sound dumb but how did you screw into the 1x2s without splitting them? Even when I use pilot holes I have a huge problem with it...
@The_Heights
@The_Heights 9 месяцев назад
Gonna need to use smaller screws and make sure they’re not long enough to come out the other side… Make sure they’re actually wood screws

0:25, How'd you know what suspension to purchase?

Hoping you can help me. Bought same trailer. Extensive front end damage..front part of floor on the riser under dinette. How can I replace front and sides about 6 inches around? Is it supported by 2x4s underneath? Ty
@The_Heights
@The_Heights 9 месяцев назад
@ 1:32 you can see there’s just some two by fours supports connected to the three-quarter inch plywood deck on that front dinette section underneath running along each side that is it

I'm getting ready to do this with my '59 Traveleze. This might sound odd, but how do you attach the sub floor to the metal frame? Did you add those cross beams so you could attach it to those? I don't really understand how the trailer stays securely on the trailer frame. Thanks!!
@The_Heights
@The_Heights 25 дней назад
The subfloor attaches using carriage bolts through the floor and through different parts of the actual frame, depending on the type of camper and brand
