The amount of sheer hard physical work you put in Dan whilst filming and editing is beyond me. You are ‘ Super Man Dan’ and are a credit and inspiration for us all. I’ve tried incorporating a bit more work into my day and feel better for it. YOU REALLY ARE A CRAFTSMAN and it’s so interesting to watch you and learn. ✅✅✅✅👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 incredible brick arch ✅✅✅✅
Like the song about Lalande ..Dan's the man..he really does alot ..his kids will be proud of him as they grow and realize how much he has done ..just sayin'...😊🇨🇦
Taking on a project that would have made the Average Person want to run away from . Here is a building that has been burnt down and left for the past 50 years abandoned .
'Dan' Fell during the making of this as he crossed it. He became cross at the fact that he was forced to cross and that he fell because of it. He fell into a rage, and then a depression. He had sex with Madaliene. Andrej's former girlfriend. He was scared to do it as was asking if it was ok or if he would be killed. Andrej was sent home and not to return and was on the rocks with her anyway, she had taken a knife to him in threat before. He did it and then a couple days later threaten suicide in the well by electric shock. He said! This is for Madaliene and all the other whores in entertainment like me!! He was very dramatic that day, so we threw leaves on him and told him jokes to cheer him up.
You rent a lift for a day to bring all your supplies up to the 3rd floor and and add waste chutes to each floor to stop cleaning the same areas over and over but Dan is never going to do that. I'm pretty sure it's because this way makes for better videos.
Think having little targets each day help. As he say ticking another job off the list. Plus thinks like the arch helps when you stand back and look at it.
Dan, I'm sure we all appreciate the time it takes to reposition the camera to get the best vantage point for filming after every task. (It's got to be frustrating at times to have to stop and do that when you just want to get on with the task at hand!) Still, taking the time to thoughtfully consider the vantage point from the viewers perspective (not doing it hastily) is appreciated. Not all vloggers do that. Your work is your passion and it is fascinating to to observe the progress you make each day. Most well done!
I agree - the camera angles are always on point,.. it really gives you the perspective of space and distance with the close up angles,.. as if we are actually there! Really well done. And the amount of work - physical and then editing that Dan puts in daily is truly astonishing!
And GLOVES! Dan is wearing gloves, finally...to protect his skin from the lime mortar. Much warning given about that. Update: After another viewer said they did not see gloves, and after re-checking Vlog, at the end, Dan's hands look like he has gloves on ( like soft, light-colored latex type.) But it is more likely mortar. Ah well! We can hope & encourage.
I think the block and beam floor is a fantastic idea as it is using modern commercial industrial building to speed and strengthen things up. It is great for fire proofing and also good to prevent dry rot and the best ting is the sound proofing element. I LOVE the arch and would love to try and build one after your demonstration. I am glad to see that you have changed the brick laying technique and have now included bricks to tie both rows together. This will really strengthen the walls ! C U Tammorra Dan !
I love the music and the little noises that you keep during the fast forward parts. Always feel it is a good day for me when you make progress, even if I do not make progress with my work! LOL!!
💖👑👑💖🎬🎥📽👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼XX💖😊💖XX Am just getting my hubby into your vlogs .l have told him how hard you work and what a great personality you have .He thi k its amazing what you are doing .honestly you make us feel so happy how you are rebuilding this amazing chateau. Keep on going Dan your boys will be so proud of there dad 😊 has we all are proud of you .l hope you make this building your family home because you deserve to live in such an amazing place 😊
When I was 14 my sister and I spent a full summer redoing mortar on the basement of an old barn in northern MI. It took FOREVER to complete. Best summer of my life. Every second was worth ensuring that barn had at least another century in it. We need more people like Dan preserving historic buildings. Keep up the great work! ❤
We have a Welsh stone cottage which we extended copying the original, recessed windows. When putting stone arches on to the wooden formers the stone mason put a thin layer of sand on the curved plywood. After it had gone off and mortar and stone formed the arch, the sand dried out and with a little vibration and persuasion the whole former came out, to be used again. Great fun !
I do hope that at some future point that toilet pedestal gets pride of place. I feel like it should be put in a glass box on a plinth in the garden with a brass plaque. It's definitely earning its keep!
Part of me really hopes that the glaze on this bidet is still in good enough shape it will be able to go into one of the finished bathrooms. Getting the rusty drain out without breaking anything might be tricky though.
LOL...I thought the mortar you were using was green...then I realized the green tarp was making it look that way! Good grief...I really thought you were onto some kind of super-special-everything-resistant-reinforced with radioactive seaweed-mortar LOL I think I need some sleep. Carry on, and great work! Loving watching the chateau re-born!
Yes, Sir Winston Churchill (who built brick walls) would be proud of your work Dan, one Englishman to another. Of course Sir Winston would be prouder if your rebuilding one of the more stately homes of England.
Love Love Love the choice of music. I work around my stone building and listen to the vlogs and there is so much repetitive scratchy music and then this comes on and it is full relief. It sounds like a great happy end to a movie or the beginning of a Christmas movie. Maybe home alone. Which you are. LOL
Hi Dan. A bit early to mention this but when you get to the plumbing think carefully about siting the hot tanks. In our house in UK the kitchen is about 20+M from the hot tank and it takes ages to get hot water. I have solved this by using a blending valve on the boiling water tap tank under the sink which so,CE's it but is an expensive solution. Here in France in our quite small house we have two tanks at each end of the house. The two showers are immediately above the tanks and one tank is in the kitchen. The runs to the showers and kitchen sink are about 1.5M so we get hot water very quickly. In a very large house like your chateau you could wait a long time for a hot shower! An alternative would be a pumped circulating hot water ring so each outlet would be very close to the ring. This is also an expensive solution as it doubles the pipe runs, needs a bronze circulating pump and the water cools quite a bit while circulating. I also started by using a well pump to water the garden but since we don't use a lot of water and the standing charge is by far the biggest part of our bill I think the cost of electricity to run the pump probable exceeded the cost of the metered water so we now don't use the well. A few things to think about when planning the bathrooms and plumbing. Good luck with progress. Mike
The arch looks great! I do hope you are consulting with a structural engineer to make sure the home is structurally sound. I truly enjoy watching your blog each day. Your tireless committement is inspiring.
You’ve got to be having a laugh, right? Dan is just playing, he's not actually trying to do it properly. Longer it takes more patron and RU-vid he gets. Let's face it we are here for the entertainment not to learn how to repair a house.
I just had to post to say how wonderful it is to see this kind of media shared and how nice of a job your doing restoring this old building. Enjoy your humor and personality too.😊
I am working on my finals, and every evening when i come home from the library I put on the daily episode and it satisfies me so much to see someone being so productive . Bon courage Dan !
We are all so proud of you, Dan. I hope you feel the support of your subscribers. We love sharing this journey with you and as my grandfather would say "you done good"!
For building the arches, I would put the arch support form on shims. That way you can easily slide out the shims once it's all dried and then the form has room to come out as well. Easy peasy. As for the brick laying, any job worth doing is worth doing well, I think. So keep doing it your way 🙂
Someone may have asked this already…but would it be easier to build the stairs next? Haha! I’m amazed at the hard work and commitment…especially all the ladder climbing! Thanks for sharing this journey with us!
One day there will be a 3 hour long recap video showing the transformation from start to finish. It will be epic and I'm here for it. Doing a great job!
Good job, Dan! I like the arches too and am happy for you that the form for the previous arches worked out for up there. Your legs must hurt at the end of the day from going up and down the ladders several times! I appreciate your hard work and sharing the results with us!
My dad was a brickie and he would be impressed with your joints and neatness. Well done you. You do a good job and do it well. You must really sleep well at night. I do hope you have good lodgings at the moment. All the very best of health and strength sent to you.
Lovingly crafted by hand. Beautiful work. In a few years when you are floating down your staircase in your best clothes I wonder if you will recall the ladders.
I so wish I was there being your go-fer, saving you all those trips up and down the ladder. Always loved being my husbands go-fer. Also love this project..... you're pure genius!!!
I'm sure you are worn out after a day working at the Chateau. My legs would be killing me going up and down those tall ladders a million times. Hugs as always, Kathy USA 🇺🇸
That doing the brick work right, no matter that no one else will ever see it, is called craftsmanship. The Master Carpenter, who I apprenticed under 40 odd years ago, would have said that it doesn't matter if no one else sees it; you will have seen it, so it is not up to standard. That attitude paid off 20 years later, when I was working up for Master Joiner. It still delights me to watch someone engaged in Craftsmanship!
Omg 😱 look at the height, the materials have to be hoisted up ! Your an absolute trooper Dan ! the work your doing alone is backbreaking 😮your doing a brilliant job ! Beings your not a bricklaying, the work looks great to me ! I think it’s important to do the job properly, then you never have to go back to fix things up ! I’m from a long line of trades men,in the UK 🇬🇧 & my late husband was a joiner in uk 🇬🇧 & in Australia 🇦🇺 Well done Dan ,don’t forget to pace yourself!
Has there been a structural surveyor inspecting the whole structure of the the chateau. Crumbling bricks are a worrying factor in the stability of the building for sustainability in the future. The foundation also is it stable enough for the weight of the new build. Being open to the elements for all those years would be a major concern too. It would be a shame that all Dan’s work on attempting to build it back to its former glory could amount to a complete waste of time and money. I certainly hope that is not the case in the end. Best wishes for a successful conclusion ❤️
It would be hard to believe any inspector would approve of this rebuild on such shaky bones. It's a cool place but it should be pushed over and the bricks and stones re-used if possible.
I’m very impressed w/Dan’s storytelling ability. He follows a particular task thru step-by-step with the camera so it is easy to forget that he has to do double the work to 1st position the camera & then re-climb the ladder as tho for the 1st time. Bravo, Mr. Dan!
The bricking looks amazing! I agree it’s good to see a nice neat job even if you are going to cover it up later! You’ll at least have the satisfaction of having done a good job👍
Hello Dan. You’re an amazing human being. I have complete admiration for you and your courage and strength to do this mammoth project all on your own, while filming. Sleep well tonight and every night. Your legacy will life on. 🍁🇨🇦❤️
@@grahamthebaronhesketh. We moved to PEI from Toronto/Mississauga Ontario. What a different life. People are so laid back and don’t really accept change. The airforce base in Summerside is still used for training, people from CFB NB. Once we saw a parachute that had been deployed hanging in the trees at the base Funny.
I loved the music you started your vlog with today. It's very "epic adventure" meets "Harry Potter," which seems fitting for your epic, magical adventure of restoration. Great choice!
Those kids will be teenagers by the time that chateau is habitable. It’s going to be years before it’s livable again and cost millions of Euros (by engineering estimates)…….does Dan have millions? Don’t think so, but I’ll be watching all the way to the glorious or bitter end.
I believe that he is getting help through the different TV shows. Didn't they just come out a week or so ago and have him pick up the different tools and lumber. I could be totally wrong, it wouldn't be the first time lol. An your defiantly right. It would take a huge budget. Either way I will be so happy to see the kids running around the house lol, children or teenagers. It's fun to watch.
@@kathyritchey9526 They wouldn't pay enough. But Dan is getting more views so his RU-vid revenue will be steadily going up. But will we get bored? It's at least 3 years away before he can camp out there, but it be weather tight. Could be another 3 years to do internals. It's a €1 million job, and tbh, probably closer to $2 million. But you can't fault his tenacity and his ability to live in the moment and get the next little step done, without freaking too much on how many steps there will be
@@danellis-jones1591 From what I've heard, those TV shows don't pay anything at all. The folks at Lalacelle participated in My Dream Derelict Home In The Sun. No payment. (Wonder if it's that one he's doing.) Same as with Château DIY and Help! We Bought A Village.
Dan, I have been binge watching your RU-vid channel for a couple of months now (addicted). Enjoying the more subdued choice in music, or just listening to the "work sounds ". Don't have to mute the "suddenly song" anymore. Lol. You have gorgeous hair as well. Hope the peaky blinders hair fad is over!
Damn, your channel is addictive! Congrats on your progress thus far. Love each episode and can't wait to see this project completed! You are one ambitious man! BRAVO! How fantastic that your arch template works for this project upstairs like in the basement. Smart man!
You're doing my dream currently! I have one tiny helpful tip regarding ladders, if you slide your free hand up the side while climbing, you'll never not be connected to the ladder. A simple safety practice to help you stay not broken physically so you can continue doing great work!
Oohhhh! je viens de comprendre comment on fait les arches en briques sans aucune explication. Videos toujours simples et bien filmées. See you tomorrow !
I love what your doing with the chateau Dan... BUT OH THE CAMERA ANGLES. I am so impressed with the amazing camera angles you are creating lately. It really makes the chateau shine with the sequencing of the angles. So creative. I just love how far your camera work and editing have come along. OUTSTANDING! angles on this video. Well done.
I literally don’t know how you do this! The patience and integrity and the hard work that you put into it is absolutely amazing and your filming is captivating it gets us interested in just a very simple task😮❤😊
Admirable determination, persistence in abundance for ten men, a one man crew on a job for twenty!! And then even edits and we can enjoy this sheer madness of his! Watching these videos, I feel almost ashamed that I don't do enough in a day!!!
Dan it is just a thing of beauty! That arch just took my breath away. You are smashing it! Slaying it! Still proud of you. That view from the top is just gorgeous. The Chateau is singing with life now. She is smiling and giggling with joy at the work you are doing for her! Can you hear it?
You are an absolute weapon, I run a household of 7 (5 kids) + work full time job 5-7 days But watching you go makes me feel so lazy 😂 you really are unbelievable, love watching your videos
I was pleased to hear you speak about the layer of concrete that will tie the sides of the building together. I’m sure I’m not the only one who has been watching the brickwork shake a little, so it will be terrific to see more stability to your fine brickwork. Kudos!
Don’t you knock your workmanship!!! It’s damn good 👍 The block and beam flooring would be a good idea, it’s so much faster and in most cases stronger then any other conventual method. Don’t be put of by the price of it either, the savings made in the speed of erecting it and not needing additional help far outweighs the additional cost.
Mastered yet another skill, between the kitchen at the house and here, in building brick arches. It’s a shame these have to be covered up, but a skill never goes to waste.
When do the other trees still inside the building come out? Your patience, skills and strength of character are awesome! So much admiration for your tenacity and good humour. Even when faced with setbacks, you still soldier on! You are truly inspiring as a model!
Yes Dan, it is nice to do a nice job on whatever you do and it sure does look nice!!! Too many so called “professionals” can’t hold a candle to past generations in their workmanship. It is refreshing to see someone who actually cares! 😎
