I had a 981 Cayman S, converted GT4 front end, all OEM Porsche. Removing parts was easy and you're right about the quality, you'd expect more for the money. Door cards stretch and warp, headliner sags. Driving experience is amazing tho. More power on the rebuild, can't wait for the finished product knowing your workmanship. I bet it'll finish amazing.
@Turboy65
@Turboy65 2 года назад
Although it will make more work for you, I would recommend that you try to remove everything from the chassis that is already provided on the replacement quarter panel assembly. That way, there are fewer chances for parts to be misaligned. Just one BIG one, and it's actually pretty easy to align it correctly, using the door gaps as your guide in the front, and the deck lid as your guide in that area.

Haven't watched one of your videos for a while,your production standard has improved to a much higher level 👍 I once rolled a Hilman Imp where every panel on the car was bent much like this Porche. I wasn't belted in either and didn't get a bruise or scratch. It all depends on whether you hit something solid and as long as you don't come to a full stop you'll be ok. Wouldn't take that chance now and always belt up

Those spot welds are huge so no wonder the drill bits struggled. The bit needs to be larger than the spotweld as the surrounding 1mm or so is also partially fused together. My old VW the 6mm drill failed but the 8mm worked great. Cobalt ones also hold an edge way better than HSS titanium coated. Anyway, many ways to skin a cat and the grinder can be way quicker 😉 Getting stuck in there mate so should come along a fair pace 👍

You my friend are a universal force of nature. Inspiration {squared} ×determination {cubed} =any possible outcome minus a shed load of money. One thing I have learnt from watching is the cosy deal insurance companies have with companies like Copart. I wanted to buy my car from my insurance company and they refused to sell it to me. Instead they gave me a rubbish amount of money. Not enough to replace the car. My old car is now back on the road.

Weird the spot weld bits didn’t work. I’ve used a different kind before and they worked awesome. Cheap too from Harbor Freight which is a cheap USA store with China parts sold. It’s got a spring center punch in it and it’s like a micro hole saw bit. Cuts around the weld so you can pull it off. My new quarter for a 370z we drilled out where the spot weld should go on them so they fit over the old spot weld. We just welded each hole and it was done.

Mat; you could consider re-colouring the burgundy leather to make the seat all black, if you don't wish to source new seats. It'll be far less expensive than getting new seats in the colour you prefer and then having to sell the one's you have! When you said about throwing all of the broken items out, I guess you mean once the car is completely finished, as the last thing anyone would want, is to find you need a clip or a part that was salvageable, but it's gone off in the skip and you end up buying another one? You're doing great here and I'm lovin' the content. Thanks mate!
