Rec Room's "Lore" is a Confusing Mess (here's why)

The easiest way to explain Rec Room lore is simply this: *Lore=$$$* I get it, at the end of the day it’s a free game that does actually need to make money. But all the lore just boils down to buying some exclusive limited cosmetic. I’ve never spent a cent on this game which goes to show when looking at my cosmetics, absolutely no lore. I couldn’t grind for it if I tried.

Agreed, they should hire someone to just make stories! Have a beginning , have an end. And wrap everything togheter instead of making stories everywhere that dont make sense.

I'm sad what they did to the forbiddon one, it started off as a semi ominous threat but just got turned into a goofy villain and stupid parkour, I mean like even if instead of pressing a button to release utini from a cage (how the hell does that work?) They could of made us press a button on his back to make it explode or somthing (I'm aware theres better events that could be made but I assume rec room wanted to keep parkour and button presses)

Era 1: We thought about the lore and tried our best to make it good Era 2: Let’s try adding some actual lore in, it’s not that good but it works and we tried our best Era 3: We hired a 6-year-old for 50 cents/hour to make new lore just so we get more money lol

The problem is the cosmetics, it's obvious that rec room just wants to make money off of these cosmetics. They attach lore and a crazy token price and people will be like oh that's a rare cosmetic! So they buy it.

I can agree, rec room was mostly about fun. But since they crammed lore & stuff. Its kind of dumb.

This video literally sums up almost all of my thoughts on this lore situation. Like, this game has been out for almost 7 years now. And they after 4 years, chose then to make (new) lore, and (as you mentioned) there was already some to begin with(which I never payed too much attention to). I never really got too invested in the lore just because I never really thought Rec Room would be a type of game to have deep “Fortnite-like”(as I like to call it) lore. And then back to what you also said: If the game just did all those said things for their next era of lore, that would be awesome! And I too would love to see something like that, even if I haven’t been too invested in RR lore to begin with! It’s also nice to see I’m not the only one who has these thoughts on the lore, including everyone else in the comments. 👍🏻

This is a well though out and broken down discussion on Rec Room's "lore". Any item related to the "lore" was either locked behind a rediculous paywall or by completing an RRO with S rank. We know nothing about S, nore anything about the Teller. We were told to "get our ciphers ready" and haven't really seen anything come from that. The first Invasion event was kinda cool and allowed you to get an exclusive set for free. However, the second event felt like it was just trying to sell you old rare items...

Also I know this is just a bug but it could be lore so here: there is a second dimension in rec room called the TFLS (the forbidden land of sorrow) and it’s really rare but sometimes if you get bad wifi and crash to your dorm you will spawn in your dorm, but something feels off, you spawn outside of your dorm and the sky is pitch black, the mirror isn’t there so there’s a quick entry but when I went to grab my camera to take a picture, “you do not have permission to blah blah blah (whatever it said)” and neither could I get out my maker pen and after 10 seconds roughly audios started to overlap “you win””welcome to rec room””up and over”! And at that point I noped the hell out of there but I haven’t seen it again but as I left the game I noticed through the window, there was something in the darkness

Wait, so if the Forbidden One and Coach are connected and "one cannot exist without the other", does that mean that coach is just like dead now? Assuming that a little bit of parkour ended the whole thing and they won't bring him back later or something... I don't know, I'm just glad I'm not the only one upset about this. Phase one was just the right amount of context to the game, could explain it in a well thought out way, and then they whiffed the Forbidden One, and now... it's just an obvious cashgrab. I guess it's just another aspect of their early RROs that they threw out the window... 😕

I was a loyal quest 1 player. Recroom for 3 years. Now they imported a visual glitch for oculus 1 and they verbally said they wouldn't fix it. So much for sinking 2000 into my account

This is what I think the new lore is the teller is someone who says on everything and he knows what's going on always and S is someone trying to take over recroom and he starts by making small gateways in the roomiverse and forsaken is someone who helps coach by sending her information and building recroom originals

Rec Room is just forgetting that the entire game takes place in a college campus.

I do have something now I’ve listen to a bunch of games lore Right so I know how people do lore my theory is that they’re throwing all the stuff at to us with intention to confuse us that’s what they want but then they are going to make something big like an event or a quest that will somehow answer most of are questions or some, and keep going with the 4th era or it could be a boss battle ending the 4th era that’s just my theory.

I just made this theory that if the forbidden one is related to coach it also says “one cannot exist without the other” basically meaning either coach is dead because the forbidden one is dead or coach is alive because the forbidden ones alive

Idea: there is a hacker who switches to a new rro each day/week and adds something new

i think the forsaken one is just a bubbly to go along with the forbiddon one bubbly with the purple and orange like the default paintball pistol skins

hopefully the final stage of lore will tell some facts and do some extra hints for a big event with the lore

"the forbidden one" would have been a cool lore story thing about rec room, if they did it correctly... the thought of something having been watching you from the start of the game, watching you do your activities while you're oblivious to it, possibly taking notes about you to try and figure out a way to take over rec room (they could have even made a part of the lore where it DOES take over rec room) the thought of it being a rouge glitch is also scary, cementing the fact that everything is fake, and not real (cause i think it's kind of implied that we're supposed to be teens in a college dorm, everything is supposed to be "real life") . they really messed up with this, it could have been a cool character.

I want rec room make a Forbidden fights back and make it cooler like new monsters that are hard to defeat and a Awesome boss battle and when u load in to rec room u will see purple eyes in the background and when u are about to finish loading he makes a big purple smile and in the level some of the monsters will have a big purple bucket on them and the rest is up to rec room(if u here this rec room pls don't make a Parkour In less u just doing a collapse on the floor)

I'm guessing Rec Room is trying to be all cryptic with all the enemies being mysterious gods so that 2 year olds would steal there parents credit cards in hopes of being the first one to discover something I hope that The Forbidden one, S and the teller will both be in shadow inc or whatever it was called and they have actual boss fights or something for an event, I did like the vibe of when The forbidden one claimed the hero cave atleast, maybe we will have a whole bad guy syndicate where there are "missions" (like short quests but it does not take place in a school play and the rules of the game are diffrent to the quests) and once you do all of them you get to fight the boss (Fragment of the forbidden one), once you defeat the boss you get an item, when the event is over there will be a youtube video from Rec Room talking about how the forbidden one is finally defeated by the brave heros or something I don't want any "Buy S's Sword Skin to beat the boss in one hit" or "Teller's Top hat to unlock a secret room" Just actual clothes based on the event so you can get a souvenir and not be a sucker buying overpriced "lore" items Just some simple less scummy events to beat ahadow ink and be done with it, returning to the ol school plays and coach speculation

Rec Room is starting to feel more and more "corporate" and its genuinely pretty sad, all these insane purchases, this dumb fan service lore, and all the other stupid decisions that rec room has made, and all thier neglegence when it comes to moderating.

they should make a event like in rec room original games like quests will have a type of earthquake thing and if your in the rec center everything should be getting destroyed like the mirror area and stuff and if your in a custom room you would feel a small earthquake and the forbidden one would say something in the rec center while it is collapsing and there would be an after math with the rec center being destroyed for about 4 or 5 days with the rec center brick walls being broken down and you have fix it with other players and the earthquake would have spikes falling down from the sky and you would see rec room moderators or content creators telling you that they need help have to fix quests and the quests would be destroyed for about 3 days and after the earthquake you would see dark figures in the starting screen and if you try to get close to the dark figures they would disappear and the dark figures would also again appear in rec center and dorms laser tag and paintball maps would be destroyed for 5 or 4 days but laser tag maps wouldnt be damaged too much while in that construction map for paint ball everything would collapse and would specifically last longer to be fixed basically for 6 or 7 days and the dorm would have the bed collapse and windows are broken after everything is fixed you would see helicopters in the sky in the rec center and dorm room after 1 month the helicopters should be gone and everything would return to normal (this is my idea with an event related to the forbidden one i had in my head)
