Never paint concrete it will most likely peel try acid staining it which is just as easy but it will last a lot longer and look amazing they have all kinds of colors
I stained some bricks on my home and a brick walkway and an entire patio 5 years ago. It still looks beautiful and we get tons of compliments. People have literally pulled over while im working outside to compliment my house/yard. Don't use concrete paint. Staining is the way to go! It changed the entire appearance of our home.
@@TrueLowrey-v3f I live in Wisconsin We have harsh winters and we use salt. I stained 5 years ago. It still looks as good as day 1. I wish I could include before/after pics. I went from a cream brick to mahogany. I can't even see any fade. We ALWAYS get compliments on our home. I used Rock Solid concrete stain from Rustoleum many colors to chose from.
@@daniellex51484shaking my head? Or so much hate? At my comment? Facts aren't hateful, they're just the facts. If your intent in posting content online is to inspire others that it doesn't take a lot of money or hiring fancy designers to come up with projects on your own to beautify a space you don't like, then you need to be at least be aware that you could be inadvertently leading them into a action that could cause another unforseen problem such as expanding and re-cracking along the caulking line when the concrete expands in the heat which is it's intended function. Of which you may then find yourself having to scrape out all of that caulking if you don't like the looks of that cracking. For instance, painting concrete; many comments advise against doing so because of ongoing maintenance when the paint starts to peel. That is another fact. Dying the concrete with a stain made for cured concrete is a low maintenance alternative. For those that are inspired to do a project like this in their home, there are many alternative materials to choose from depending on the time and effort you have available to maintain it. I hope you reconsider characterizing people's input as hateful and consider perhaps their recall of past experiences. I thought an expansion joint could be covered because it interfered with the pattern in my patio knowing good and well what it was there for. It didn't work and the lesson learned only made more poignant the solution we inevitably used.
@@markme4it was a cement repair, which is very close to actual mixture of cement and usually for small cracks or chips, definitely not for the expansion joints. You’re right though if she used a caulking or rubberized caulking for it then it would be fine but she used that stuff.
Will look nice for a few weeks, then look progressively shittier for the rest of the life of the concrete. Cannot recommend painting exterior concrete surfaces under any circumstances, especially in any area which ever gets freeze thaw cycles, but even in areas which never see frost this is just a bad idea.
You have natural stone on the front of the house. Cinderblock is going to cheapen the entire look of the home. Nothing is uglier than cheap cinderblock.
@@QueenofKings2concrete swells and shrinks with the weather. It might not happen very fast on new concrete but if those cracks were there already and not properly fixed they will reappear pretty fast.
If you get winters where you live that job that looks wonderful turned into a high maintenance job. Paint will peal. Also those aren’t cracks they are saw cut’s because concrete expands and retracts durning all the seasons.
Just remember....the added texture you put into the concrete paint to prevent slippage not only provides better grip for your shoes but also provides a place for the dirt on your shoes to get stuck to. ...these surfaces tend to get dirty quicker and need scrubbed (not hosed) for a good cleaning. The look is good but the maintenance is higher. Plus...the paint may wear away faster than you realize if the area is in high use. NEVER mean to be negative...It looks good.....just saying...
Oh wonderful I’m gonna be doing my from steps and sidewalk too .. thank you I’ll follow you and get more ideas as you go along .. thank you for sharing..
NEVER PAINT CONCRETE! here is a short lesson, concrete is created by a chemical reaction painting your concrete will weaken it as concrete needs to breathe and requires special sealants
That was my first question because they’re gonna walk all over it and the weather is going to cause it to go away anyways. It’ll look terrible before long!
There’s definitely paint for Concrete and Masonry. But I’m not sure she used that paint. Also it’s clear she didn’t prime it either. A lot of people tend not to prime it cause it’s more expensive but then their jobs end up looking like this 🤷♂️
@@spetrichhome yes it will . Any Person knows this you paint something outdoors in elements it will not last long must be new home owner to not know don’t paint concrete 🤣
She said she added something in it to make the paint less slippery but it's clearly and very glossy so she didn't put enough of it in. She's going to end up having to we do that all the time and for it to look good she's going to have to clean off the paint that was on before. Only way you can get that off is using acetone and a scrub brush, or if it's peeling and chipping you might be able to use a pressure washer for a lot of it. Freaking concrete contracts and expands, freezes and sweats. Lol I hate it when people paint concrete, actually I even hate it when they paint their wooden walkways. It just makes it look like shit because nobody ever gets to it in time to repair it. Lol and when you're a homeowner there are so many things you have to take care of there's no need to make more work for yourself and she still could have done something to make it look nice... Like refinish it. She also should have checked if they were level before filling in those cracks. That was pretty new cement, so for it to be cracking it could be a foundational problem.
And then her toddler slips and falls while running, throwing his head back hard onto thr slipper concrete, putting him in a type of seizure. My parents' concrete isn't painted but it's slipper from the gross dogs and their water, and that's what happened to my baby.
@@naomid0226 I was thinking that they probably refused to use the back or side door until it dried. If there IS a way to enter the house other than the front 🤔
I am just amazed at the energy you have and time to do all of this. Im a sahm and my adhd causes me to not be able to finish projects sometimes... so i dont start them unless i know i have fully committed to it. I usually dont have time. Maybe when my kids get older and i have more time.
I had to tell that to managers at large apartment complex I lived in. It was gated and had literal streets in it. So of course they had to paint a lot of certain curbs red and other areas to not block utilities etc. Except everyone slipped on the red paint and they even had to pay some medical bills. I went to the office and told them to put sand in the paint! The very next time I saw the maintainance guys painting the red curbs they had bags of sand!
As a woman in construction, I love this! I work in concrete and building material testing. There is a pigmented epoxy you can also use if the paint starts chipping. Definitely lasts longer but the paint looks fantastic! We achieved that look/color by basically "polishing" the wet concrete and this looks very similar.
Indeed. My toddler was running, slipped on my parents'slippery concrete and fell back on his head hard. He didn't cry, he had seizure like symptoms. Scary.
Awesome . The cracks mean the ground underneath is setting which is common . To prevent this you will need to fill underneath to prevent further deeper cracking .
Don’t think she waited long enough before it dried fully . Cause a painter rudely painted my concrete steps even thought I firmly said not too . And it didn’t show foot prints like that ever . Just looked terrible and I had to so sadly live right it . But thankfully I matched the house and nobody really noticed but I did . Asked him y did me do it after I said no cause I like the concrete natural look . And he said he thought it look better .
@@naomid0226 huff..I’d be upset too I just don’t prefer that look and for him to make that decision on his own is totally rude and unprofessional but like you said no one noticed besides you so I guess it worked out for you somehow
Fully concur. The painted walkway looks really bad. Fake af tbf. When she said "look at the difference it makes" I was like totally. It used to look so much better. 😂
