I think the idea with that indicator stand is that once it is set up properly all movement (up/down, in/out and all rotational axis) can be locked when you tighten just the large knob.
@DudleyToolwright
@DudleyToolwright Месяц назад
Good idea, but the large knob is a completely separate entity and doesn't effect any of the vertical parts.

Vertex makes some nice stuff. I picked up a set of R8 collets in that brand. Good quality. I have some CNMG-643's for my big lathe. I haven't had a chance to hog some material with them yet.

Good one Rob . Carbide drills is something i need to keep an eye out for . Do you know if the seller had any more . I took my boring head out & had a twiddle with the thing on the bench today , they make a very nice boring head . Cheers 👍

Good scores. You’re lathe can run CNMG 600’s. I’ve tested them on mine - was able to take some SERIOUS cuts. There’s just no point. I ended up giving my CNMG600 holder away to someone with a much bigger lathe, where it is more appropriate. I think it would be cool for a group of youtubers (5 or 6)to do a group video comparing recent acquisitions. Not sure how that would work. Recorded zoom? I’d love to be in on it. And finally - I will reach out to you separately on lathe coolant. I did some research, and then testing and now use a coolant which absolutely does not rust my machine. Happy to send you a sample to test out yourself. Will reach out via email. 👍

I look forward to all of it. I have been using Cimcool on my surface grinder and it has exceptional life and I haven't seen any corrosion. It is just that every lath I see that uses coolant has visible corrosion, but probably from much older formulations.

If I can get the antibot system to stop blocking me from looking at your email I'll reach out. There are definitely plenty of formulations that will still let machines rust. A lot comes down to maintenance of the coolant. Probably humidity in the shop plays into it as well. More to come!

@@StuartsShed I run Castrol MB50 , not the cheapest but have not had any issues providing i mix it correctly .
@StuartsShed
@StuartsShed Месяц назад
That's the trick in most cases. Keeping the mix correct seems to be vital. I monitor the Ph and the concentration - both quick and easy to do - and use a $30 homemade tramp oil skimmer and it keeps my coolant in good shape - and no rust on my machines. I run Trim 585XT, also not the cheapest - but I know there are others that work also. This coolant leaves a nice oil film on everything. Shop humidity likely plays in to it as well.

7.3mm is the optimal size for form tapping 5/16-18. I have one always loaded in my tool changer.
@DudleyToolwright
@DudleyToolwright 28 дней назад
That is good to know. I normally use an "F" or "J" sizes for approx. 70% and 50% threads. 7.3mm would be less than 50% threads.

@@DudleyToolwright Not for form tapping. Entirely different hole size than cut taps.
