Dang, the algorithm failed me by showing me this vid a year late. Thanks for including my patch (the Yugioh one). I've got to say, I think you're the first person I've heard pronounce my handle correctly lol. Everyone seems to pronounce the "bow" part like the verb bow, rather than the noun bow.

Hey! Thank YOU for doing the translation. It's always great having more games to play!

Great video. I love seeing all the new translations, even if so many of the games are not my thing. It's just amazing to see people working to make all of these video games playable in English.

I used to work with translation and localization with games, first when living in Kyoto more than 20 years ago. Just as with movies, there is so much that doesn't translate culturally. Sometimes we must/are told to change minor points or even make original jokes to try to make more sense. I don't know if fan translations do the same but it is always interesting to see how people do it. It's almost an art in itself!

What are some of the projects you worked on?
@japangamejunk
@japangamejunk 3 месяца назад
@@Tony_Cardoza For a freelancer you sometimes don't know the overall project or you may do more than one game's worth of stuff at once, but the most obvious result I did was with Tecmo, with content that was clearly meant for a fighting game, and the timing coincides with the development of Dead or Alive 4. The most frustrating was with Nintendo who literally just wanted me to check to make sure the English was fine, which it was but just a bit awkward with word choice, and they didn't like my suggestions to make it more native. Not my place to complain too much though!
@Tony_Cardoza
@Tony_Cardoza 3 месяца назад
@@japangamejunk Interesting. I had no idea how that process went. Now that you say that, it makes perfect sense. A freelancer would only need to be sent the exact text that needed either translating or cleaning up. Thanks for the reply, and for your contribution to the localization process.

I get it but today is a complete different world than 20 years ago. Anime and Japanese culture is mainstream now that most understand the culture difference today. Why do you think we are seen more and more of those old school games been translated and becoming hits in the West today.
@japangamejunk
@japangamejunk 7 дней назад
@@latinsizer Respectfully, what is mainstream in the west is exactly what ends up as popular and amplified more than reality. Foreigners not living normally in Japanese society tend to become more familiar with the SUBCULTURE... Not the actual culture. Hopefully you would agree that a Japanese person who just watches Hollywood blockbusters with subtitles would not have the same true understanding about American culture as a Japanese person who is fluent in English, attained US citizenship, married am American and had kids, bought a house in the American suburbs, and had lived more than half his life in the country! That's myself, but in reverse, and even now I wouldn't have the confidence to claim even near the natural understanding of this country than a native Japanese person. Certain things simply can't translate with only a dictionary. I personally don't watch much animation but an example is recently seeing two driving characters giving each other a specific knowing nod at an intersection and feeling the depth of a joke being expressed because it was relatable to how I drive here. It's just one example of literally dozens that pop up in a half hour episode. Slapstick and awkward romantic mistakes are universally understood, but finer points are not. And that's ok. The intended audience of first consumers of the product can enjoy all the points. Which gets to my original point... I hope people don't treat translation as a science or that some are so much better than others or that there is a "perfect" translation. Translation between cultures of media is am art, and to me, as much of an art as the media itself. Even now when I do voice work and localization, I take great effort to make the end result as entertaining as possible while secondarily keeping it as accurate as possible. It's how we're trained to do it and what I hope the end users can one day learn to appreciate. Sorry for the lecture, but this stuff is a passion for me...

@@swolekat_tbf I almost don’t know much of all the characters mostly the Pig who have a Darius like Force Field, a stick figure who have a C***** as a shield, I know the bunny girl is from a VN game but idk what really, and the Octopus is an original character for this Gradius Spinoff series, and this fish is a obvious reference to space Manbow??? on the MSX
