Canteens and mess kits are usually common and therefore cheap. I know, I have dozens of dinged up ones that I picked up at fleamarkets for $10-20. However, condition is everything. So $50 sounds steep, but for items that mint, I don't think it is really out of line. As for retail antique malls, they were always hit or miss for military. Either they had nothing, it was bizarrely overpriced, or mismarked. It just makes actually finding a gem that much sweeter when you do. That war dated wrist compass complete in the box was a steal at $99. You were right to grab it, even at a military show they are rare and would be priced higher. Good to have you back!
Welcome back! I was super excited to see a new video from Keep em Rolling. You have great videos, I’ve watched them all. Nice finds, very quality stuff. I’ve had a lot of luck finding militaria at our local flea market. I due still use eBay from time to time. Not much luck lately from estate sales or antique malls. Sometimes it just takes time. Can’t wait to see your room tour. Keep doing what your doing, it’s greatly appreciated.
Thanks HeartCityKid and I am sure glad you are finding stuff. I tend to go through weird ups and downs. During a "up" period I seem to find stuff everywhere while during a "down" period...nothing!?! Unfortunately, "down" periods seem to last much longer than the "up" ones...haha. Room tour is about ready. I am going to do one more recent pick-up this weekend and then the next will be the tour!

Good to hear from you again! Great condition canteen! Every other one is supposed to rupture an eardrum with that death squeak 😂 I've found some really nice stuff in antique shops around Central NY, nice Uncle Sam magazine cover from 1916 asking what you're doing to prepare for war, $25 and it was framed. Also a 1944 Disston machete for under $35.
You always seem to find great stuff and I loving watching your videos. I am just amazed at how little WWII material seems to be at antique shops!?! I guess the stuff has to dry up sometime but man I hope it doesn't happen too quickly as I love the hunt! Oh, I agree about the canteen squeak! Haha...
