This is good to see. They're as I figured they would be. There's some for my collection that I had as a kid that are rare and expensive now, so I found these last half dozen or so like this. I wont mind whatsoever. I wont be playing mine. I stopped playing on the real thing over 20 years ago when I learned about emulation on the pc. I just collect them for the memories. When I see these sitting up on the shelf with my real ones from 10 feet away, I'll eventually forget which are not real, other than in my spreadsheet with their info and price payed. I'll get the same memories viewing these on the shelf as I will the authentic ones, so. I'll let the hardcore collectors pay those prices. It's nice to have this option. I wasn't going to pay 75+ for the rare ones. I would have went without. Not because I couldn't afford them, I just don't feel they're worth having again for those prices. Found some nice repro manuals on etsy too. No luck finding those on ali.
I love and appreciate how real you are about reproductions. I am in the same position as you, and im sure many of us are as well. I really like the statement you made about owning reproductions and taking the time as well as the extra effort to do the responsible thing by labeling them. That is a really great idea that I'm going to incorporate into my collection. Sure, anyone can buy multicarts or use emulation, but it's definitely not the same feel or magic as being able to use it on original hardware. It allows us to take gaming back to a time where most of us were kids and worry free, which indeed is a major stress reliever and helps most of us keep sane. I am glad your video made it to my feed. I wish to give you the best handshake right now 🤝 I don't have many repros, only a handful. I've definitely considered getting more with the excellent quality of aliexpress and the way the current scene is going for retro. It's not worth it to spend hundreds of dollars just for one game. We all got bills and rent to pay out here that in its own right got us playing the game of survival of life which is not easy. Did you make you make your own labels, or did you find it somewhere? I find the best place to go for Repros & multicarts is Etsy. The labels tend to be of higher quality and you can also purchase authentic looking boxes and manuals. The stickers identifying the repros is a nice touch, considering how they are getting better and better and mirroring the real releases.
Most of what you see on etsy these days in terms of carts is sellers importing everything from aliexpress and flipping it. That being said, there are some great sellers of manuals, box art, cart labels, etc
I have not have any problems with Aliexpress repros, only on the translation side of things, had a couple that were still not translated (Ghost Sweeper Mikami and Cotton 100%) and were sold to me as "English", The Snes repros cartridges are lighter than the originals, thats one thing I notice, the lebels are glossier too. So far the best quality cartridges I have bought on Ali are the ones for the N64 and Game boy, color and advance, if the labels are not a little blur is very hard to tell if they are originals of repros, I need to get some of the Nes repros of expensive games (Little Samson, Ninja Gaiden 3) and Translated games (Gradius 2 and Cocoron) to see how they look. With everything I bought I only had problems with some of the Game Boy games on the Super Game Boy player, mostly because they were Game Boy Color games, and Super Game Boy player dont read those, however they all work fine on my Gamecube Game boy Player. Repros are good for people who wants to play games on original hardware, or maybe display, not to scam people.
Nothing wrong with repros at all!! think of it this way you spend $200 on a single rare game and its gonna corrode and die say within the next 10-20 years if your lucky. When you can get entire collections of repro carts for that same $200 bucks or less and they will last another 40-50 years maybe longer because they have all new chips and circuit boards ect.. Not all repros are bad on aliexpress, you just need to know who to buy from on there.
See, I mainly like reproduction cartridges for Japanese exclusive games fans have translated like Fire Emblem, Mother & Sweet Home, I implore people to play some of these Japanese exclusives, they can be an absolute favourite just region locked and never officially translated
Looks like your 25” Magnavox is still performing good with no issues? Is that thing one of those RF only budget sets from the 90s? Mine looks similar but smaller, like 19 inch
Hey im not trying to be weird but wanted to let you know the ASMR potential of your videos... I have fallen asleep multiple times to this one, with the sound of you pushing the carts in and your relaxing voice. Also when you do the boxes of VGM... the only thing that ruins it is when the TV is too loud sometimes. But just another angle you could take to get more views with ASMR. I would only get A reproduction cartridge if I'm desperate enough to get a super expensive game for cheap. As long that it works perfectly fine and it's the real game and not some kind of hack or something or some cheap copy bootleg. I want it to be the real deal on cartridge at least for a reproduction cartridge. I also want to make sure that it works perfectly fine before buying it. If somebody can do that for me that is. If I have to test it myself then I don't think I'm going to spend no more than like $10 on a reproduction cartridge. Otherwise then that I think at least that it's kind of like a good idea to build up your collection if you want to save some money in a way. But I would try to save up money and buy all legit copies of any game if I can and depending on how high the price is. That's just what I would do but again everybody has their own opinions. But also everybody has their own budget too that they got to be careful of.
That's why the oem games still sell for more, especially the rare ones, because there's plenty of people like you, who are willing to pay the premium for the authentic thing. If there were no people like you, the real ones would be near same price as the repros.
You could have done this video in less than half the time if you had prepared a script of what is good/bad about each game extrinsically and cut it with footage of you playing the games showing there is nothing intrinsically wrong (obviously there wouldn't be) and just harp on your nit about the "Attention!" stickers once and not every single time.
