A (almost) step-by-step video of the installation of our reciprocal roof using 16 rafters (the building is 30m2), filmed from multiple angles. A huge thanks to the volunteers!
Loved watching this! I like the shapes and simplicity of the house, really natural and earthly. You both doing so good job! I mean, building a house isn't easy... Happy to see you got strong hands to help 😄
Hi, there was a profi around to calculate it. I wouldn't risk it with trial and error as the rafters have to fit in the center. I did make some calculations beforehand using a book on reciprocal frame architecture (PDF online) and that actually came to the same numbers. The calculation is based on the number and size of the rafters and the size of the middle opening, or the desired maximum height (to choose from the latter two as they influence each other).
I don't care if it is you and your friends, SAFETY FIRST. The guy at 4:15 who climbs up the scaffold and the stands outside (!!) of the building to hold the rafter, WTF.
You've shown nothing of the actual process of tying the rafters together at the centre point of the roof and you've not explained any of the physics involved in this roof design. Poor video.
Hello Andrew. We did not make the video as an instruction on how to built a roof. We only show what we did and only make videos at the moments that we think of it. We try to build a house, we do not build or film just to make RU-vid content. For making a reciprocal roof we recommend to consult an expert, and not to go only by RU-vid videos.
