Note: some compressor pistons are synthetically banded with rings and need to have those bands renewed to raise the piston back up.....they will wear down and piston efficiency is lost with worn rider bands. No need to change the shoe setting if you renew the worn rider bands as long as runout is correct with a proper rider band.
This is very common on non-lubricated machines, and the riders will wear at different rates depending on the service. Should always check runout with new riders before you mess with any alignment.

I have few queries, 1) what is the ideal piston rod runout reading at head end while installing the new compressor? 2) we have got the rod to rod pressure packing case bottom gap very less than the top,concern is if the piston wear band get wear then rod will touch to packing case and cause damage to rod. What corrections to be made for this? Piston rod runout reading are at the positive at head end when we start to move from Crank end with zero dial indicator.
