The portion about us not being allowed to really have a personality growing up!! 👏🏾. Listen, I allow my daughter to express herself as well because I was lost once I went to college and had to take some time getting to know myself OUTSIDE of the box. The projections our parents made on us was real and it’s a blessing for most of us that we have been able to blossom and see that style of parenting for what it was and learn from it. I love my style of parenting and I never want my child to feel the way I felt as a kid. Her personality is beautiful and she should be loved for who she is. My job is not to teach her what to think, but HOW to think and nurture a self aware child. Anyways…Im loving the conversations yall!
Let me tell y’all something…..Jess figured it out and unlocked the bonus level. From the first episode to this *chef’s kiss*. The content 10/10 The production 10/10 The personalities 10/10 The music 10/10 The crew 10/10 The style 10/10 Everything 10/10 Y’all are representing Baltimore well!
Y’all got me nodding and doin the Red Table Talk “MMMM” with every video and convo 😂 this podcast series is truly a piece of magic, thank you Jess, London, Rome and Prince 💜
Same here, I'm white,I tbh got into fights wth black& white females, I hate it when white ppl say " oh my bestie is black" like you get a special pass.. no! I do have "mixed cousins" but it's still irrelevant. Facts!☮️🤟🏻
I really hated when my mom said "because I said so😒" that is one reason I let my kids ask why so I can give them a response or better understanding as to why they would need to do what I said..
Aye that “don’t drive with the light on” shit really got me! My mom deadass had me believing that shit was illegal until like 2 years ago 😂😂😂 lmao then gon laugh talkin bout she just never wanted me ridin wit the light on in her car cuz I’d keep it on too long 🤣
Girl I'm 23 years old and this my first time hearing that its NOT true. I've been going my whole life like "girl turn that light off for the police get us" 😂😂 And in my heart I still believe this. Lmao lemme go to Google real quick because I'm in shock if it's not true lmao
I gotta drive with the high beams & the light on in my ride especially at night. I got severe astigmatism, floaters, & halos like a mf so it helps reduce the halos. In the daytime, I’m farsighted & get flashes of light in my vision. I’m all fxcked up 😂
Yeah I’m planning to do the same thing with my son I HATED WITH A PASSION when my parents would interrupt me when I’m expressing myself or explaining myself. Yes tone/mood/etc. is important but a child also needs to learn how to articulate their thoughts and feelings. I got tired of that so I would respond repetitively “I don’t know” so we can skip to the punishment and then getting out my face. Which I wouldn’t want my child to feel like that I hope we have a better communication history so they can come to me with anything
😂 yea the bubblegum cigarettes from the ice cream truck was something. As kids it was fun blowing out the powder though but as an adult it’s like why would they promote that?! I don’t think I’d let my kids buy it. Funny enough, I’m NOT a smoker or drinker 🤷🏽♀️
🤔I'll never forget when my cousin heard that ice cream truck sound was coming down our street, she had food stamps paper$$but didn't know that tho, he needed " real money" she had to run in as fast as she could, well her "auntie, my momma" gave her " real dollars"... before EBT card was implemented!
I love this video! I’m black and I’m proud baby! I agreed with everything y’all said about growing up black. And Jess I am afraid to drive wit the lights on in my car because my mama told me it was illegal lol. Btw y’all look good❤️
Prince on point with the personality message 20:23. I didn't find my personality until I was much older. Too embarrassed to admit, it took me a while to find out who I really was. Obedience stuck with me for years.
Yo I love being black😂😂😂 We built different!!!! Y’all was speakin some true shit tho💯💯💯 I’m bouta be 21 and “LiTeRaLlY 😂😂” been thru all the shit y’all said yo😂😂 Brought back memories. Def gone raise my kids differently whenever I have em, cuz it ain’t no time soon😭😭💯
That credit card shit is real! I just got my first credit card about 3 years ago, credit A1 now but my mama had me thinking credit cards were my enemy, and that's cause SHE wasn't taught different. 🤦🏾♂️
That's true couldn't have personality like when I was around my dad I'd literally straighten my back up and walk wierd asf like my father's father is a veteran so my daddy had a certain intensity of structure.I remember before he passed the last thing he said to me was asking me why I was walking like my pants were leather, and he laughed. Him and mama was rotf laughing I said bye and went to school cause it was a block away I walked
The BunnyMan scarred the whole city 🧐🤔😳😂🤣😂🤣🤦🏽♀️ Funny episode and I stayed getting my ass whipped and stayed on punishment 🤷🏽♀️ but I had the best childhood growing up in zone 17.
I thoroughly enjoyed this discussion and it was very relatable on a lot of topics. Definitely can’t relate to Jess though, I stayed getting beat 🤣 however, I’m the oldest so I was the lesson for my siblings 😭
It’s the kids not allowed to have personality! Growing up black and Jamaican, a double edged sword. Lol there was no why, but etc. children are to be seen and not heard . So I agree with Jess, I def let my daughter express her self and it will help develop her expressive language. I feel that’s why as black ppl, (some) can not communicate well or express our concerns or things that does not make us happy with out fighting or getting loud.
Yes oh my gosh London I can relate I have never been racially profiled before either and I never been through or dealt with as people call it being "bullied for being a dark skinned girl"
Confessions: I let my kids open up all the boxes of cereal. As long as they dont touch mine...idc Also, I dont force them to eat dinner when it's ready. Sometimes u just not hungry. I'll make their plate and tell them they can come back when they want it. 🤷🏽♀️
Brooooo my mom had the same sock issue‼️ she hated the socks with the grey patches…ESPECIALLY if you can see the grey. And you better ALWAYS wear socks. No bare feet.
“Drink yo spit” is wild!! Why tf did they tell us to do that shit 😂😂😂😂😂😂 and the thumb tongue face wipe is fucking gross!! It’s crazy how we ALL grew up the same tho😂😂
I’m so glad y’all brought up candy yams and sweet potatoes. They say every black person eat and love them. I don’t like them or eat them and I’m black lol guess my card been gone.
Girl!! You're definitely not, I appreciate you speaking up bc I for real " I'm white" and I try my best to catch each episode.. do you miss " Jess with the mess too" 🤔 I love the whole team✌🏻❤️
I'm surprised Jess didn't get whooped I always got whooped my daddy didn't let shit slide no lying no crying for nothing no putting blame on somebody else...like the quickest way to get whooped is say somebody made you do something that was wrong..m Like I remember feeling bad cause my big sister got a whoopin for me and I knew I deserved the woman myself 😓🤔🤣🙏🏾
Yea that bill stuff happened to me. As soon as I turned 18 I got all those notices for collections. Never seen them until I turned 18. I reported it hella quick. I would neva do that to my kids.
