I lived in New Orleans for two years. Visited this site and was saddened that the "UpStairs" was empty and used as storage, instead of a memorial / museum. Community leaders should do something about this. A plaque at the foot of the door was cleaned up but it looks worn out again. A street plaque is not enough to remember this horrible tragedy that was ignored by city and state leadership. Absolute disgrace.
Thank you so much for posting this. It was a very good panel discussion and entirely worth everyone’s while to spend the time to listen to it. It can, as the journalist who covered the story when he was just 18 said it did for him, “open your heart.”
