@@ricefieldrecords Wow. I order from their U.S. based branch a lot. Good to see what their Japan store looks like.

I believe their site notes that you can order from their online catalogue for pick up. They only have some stock in store probably because their inventory is so large.

Nice one Ricey, The record stores where I live are real yawners these days....I totally missed RSD yesterday, went to an estate sale of a guy who was a career A/V for NBC, got loads of great vintage electronics.

What a beautiful looking shop! And they’ve got the Beatles in Mono boxset for sale there too… no doubt light years out of my price range but I love to see it 😍

As an FYI Jimmy, Record City specializes in selling and exporting Japanese pressings overseas. Their web site and search interfaces is all in English. You might be surprised at some of the bargains given the current weakness of the ¥en. Links in the description. Cheers.

What a well kept store!

It opened in January ‘24, which contributes to the shininess of the video. But yes, being in there and seeing the layout and the bin displays; it will maintain that sense.

Their parent store is a reggae specialist and has another separate sales site nearby. This shop in the video had been closed for over a year and was surprisingly renovated and reopened. That happened in January.

Beautiful shop, although I have Disk Union in Shinjuku for my next destination 🎵

That storefront was closed for as long as I’ve lived in Japan. Their entire operation moved to e-commerce. That storefront is a tiny example of their massive inventory. Since Disk Union does not export, Record City is world class in terms of selling to buyers residing outside Japan.

I will have a look at Record City online. Thanks for the information.. Very helpful, Michael. I knew nothing of this store, although I recollect seeing listings.. Cheers from Nevada 🎵

Thankyou for creating. I am hoping to visit this store in September. In your opinion how does the range of the 'specialist' stores compare to say one floor of a large Disc Union of even tower in japan apart from the number of titles?

It depends on budget, time, and what you are looking for. If you have only one day, then it’s best to go to one station stop and go to one of the big stores to get it done. If you have a weekend, you can probably hit 2 large stores and an independent. The selection is overwhelming anywhere and the prices are competitive. If you are a single genre searcher, I might guide you differently. Be on the lookout for the tax rebates at participating stores. There is a small bit of paperwork but you will get a 10% cash rebate on those purchases.

Nice clip. Any suggestions on acquiring stock in bulk at reasonable cost to onsell and retain some for personal use. Lookin for Reggae Rock Hiphop and mist stuff in between.

In the description on the video is a link to Record City. Of all the record stores I've come across, they are the easiest to do business with, in English. They have English language support staff. They are a subsidiary of Dub Store Record Mart reggaerecord(dot)com which boasts to be the largest Reggae/Dub reseller in Japan.
