Dutch that is exactly why you go take care of them as soon as possible. Once you know you got pigs in the trap you go take care of them right then and there rain or not. Lesson learned.

I must confess. I did not think the hogs would fall for that trap. I even made a comment about hogs being smarter than dog and would not fall for it. I was wrong. I salute and congratulate you on your success regardless of the hiccup! 🏁😎

Hogs and smarter than dogs this was just a poor design. Most times when they learn it’s a trap and they escape it’s very difficult to catch them again. The young ones are easier to trick than the older ones

I have friends with 3 of these traps on their place, two with drop doors. Pigs will have no trouble jumping out of those traps, and yes, you need to increase the overall size of your by at least two more panels. We ended up wiring another layer of panels on starting halfway up the first layer so the overall height is closer to 6 foot. The t-posts need to be anchored solidly and spaced not too far apart and the panels need to be wired securely to the posts. You will be surprised that a group of pigs can potentially push out an entire side of the trap once they panic. If you want to keep the smaller pigs from escaping, you need to put a layer of 2" x 4" welded wire fencing or hardward cloth around the entire interrior of the trap. The pigs will eventually get wise to the trap so you either have to move it to a different location or let it rest before rebaiting it once a new group moves in.

Dutch sorry they all got out, cuz it was an amazing catch. I watched a video from someone who is an avid hunter and long time hunting guide. He said each sow can have 10-15 babies every 3 months. That is 3 litters each year at least. That can be a large amount of pigs per Sow per year. THANK YOU for helping your friend to try and get rid of them.😊😊

hey Dutch cut the wire off the end panel and then bend hook in the vertical wire to catch the door panel to prevent them from pushing it all the way open
@rcclassiccrawlers4368
@rcclassiccrawlers4368 2 месяца назад
That’s a good idea but I really think that the fence wire won’t be strong enough. Maybe add a post at the end of the gate panel for stability with heavy duty hooks that either weld or bolt on that will catch the outer fence trap. That should help keep those pigs from pushing and hopefully lifting the gate and squeezing out.

At least you found your flaw in your trap early. Fix it and go on. On your 4x8 trap try proping one of the drop gates open and using a trip wire tied to a 2 liter bottle tied to the back of trap. I used a piece of rebar to hold the door open and a string. Bend the rebar to go around the top of cage with a hook to hold the gate open

Check out "Pig Brig" traps. They don't have to be monitored all the time and they can't get out. they are fairly light and easy to transport. I don't think they cost as much as the metal drop gate type. Maybe you can get some of your neighbors to share the cost then you can move them to different properties.

if you would get a length of 1/4" chain start at the stationary end abought 3/4 up and go all around cage end at the start bolt it together and connect each post all the way around, it will block the trap gate from being able to be pushed through. Love you'r channel, keep up the quality shows!!

You are on the right track with wanting to make the trap bigger. I saw one on a Homestead Rescue episode and it was about an 18 foot diameter circle so alot of pigs would not feel so clostrophobic, They made theirs so that the door was open until the pigs set off a release that caused to door to snap shut and keep them in.

Here's a great opportunity for cultural exchange..go around your town and ask if anyone is Mexican!! With this massive metal pan with oil and pork fat they make carnitas!! Maybe making the ends of the panel curve out will hook on the panel but still allow the hogs to push in. I have watched another channel that traps for hire using the drop panel and they jump over the top so he goes as soon as the camera alerts and he see's the panel drop so that he gets most with few escapees.

you should bend the wire ends on your outside wall by your gate. bend the ends around into a hook so when they try to push out through the gate area the gate will hook into the bent hooks and stop it from going any farther, and should help from pushing the gate or the wall down. halifax nova scotia canada

I would try a cattle fence that has bars real thick for the part they push on and bring it in, some. Make it deep in ground with maybe a 2x4 holding it for extra support. Maybe also camp out near by with a spotlight to get them when they are caught and you can see. Make the part that lets them in easy to get in and snap quickly back. Idk. I was so happy when you set this up because I have been leaving comments to set one of these up like reap what you Seaux channel.also you may have to make it wider so if a whole lot get in there they cant push against each other so hard.

We used to use silo mesh and have the ends pointing inward with a post either side just wide enough for pigs to fit between and push forward a meter or so which opened the ends for them to get in. They can’t get out cause the ends close up after they pass through. They will still try and charge the sides but the other steel posts will hold it strong.
