When I was a kid, records were the only format available (aside from the radio), so I knew how to play a record. No cassette tapes, no CD'S, no MP-3, no streaming services. It took me years to learn all the things that you summed up in an hours video. Bravo, my friend. Have a good week.

Very informative,& i thank you very much! Especially on the how to set up the counter weight on the back end of the control arm. I am getting a Dj style gear driven turn table shipped to me any day now. I wanted to make sure i can get it set up properly because i have already began collecting records,& i am very an anxious to listen to them. I grew up listening to records in as a young kid in the 70’s,& just rebuilt a 1975 Marantz receiver with a built in pre amp . You hit on literally every question i had including what to do if my turntable has a built in pre am also. This is an excellent video thanks again so much!

Very good info on TT's!Lost count how many Technics 1200 and SP10 I have installed and set up at radio stations.Also QRK/Rek-O-Kut TT's The QRK is an older,traditional ,sturdy idler driveTT.You have to remind DJ's to leave these in the neutral notch on the speed lever or you will get a flat on the idler wheel tire.Most of the time you can fix this by running the TT at 78 speed for several minutes.Ever seen a gear drive TT-RCA made these-their transcription TT under the TT "motorboard" was a motor and transmission with a shift lever-on the top of the motorboard that selected 33,45,78 RPM this shifted the gears in the transmission like on a manual transmission car.Very MASSIVE and robust machines!!!!Another is the German made EMT- this is an idler drive TT with an inner and outer platter.The record goes on the outer platter.You start the TT-inner platter spins you can hold the outer one to cue the record.You can precue using the cue marks on the platter many DJ and broadcast TT's had the Q marks.And the Tempo-Pitch controls were handy for music teachers and square dance callers.

Great job! 👍 I would definitely recommend this to beginners, and people thinking about getting a record player, especially the teenagers and young adults who didn't grow up with these. You did a great job explaining all the things they might want to know, with lots of encouragement. :) The only thing I can think of that wasn't mentioned was that the belt for a belt driven TT can be visible, like on the Fluance, or hidden underneath the platter, like on the RCA you showed, or the Audio Technica LP60x you recommended. That was something that stumped me when I was a newbie... what is this black rubber thing that just came off when I lifted the platter, and how do I get it back on. By the way, if you ever get up to Longmont, we have 3 used/new record stores in town, plus at least 4 thrift stores with records, one of which even has its own "record room". Happy record hunting! :)

The comparison between the Fluance RT-85 manual for $500, and the $15 garage sale RCA, hints towards such an important bit of information here. There are turntables from the 1980s, Fisher, JVC, MCS, and a host of others, which can be found in the second hand world, and sell for the price of a Hot Dog and a Soda. These turntables often have dampening feet, Direct Drive, fully automatic, adjustable tracking force, anti-skate adjustment, tone arm lift, detached headshell, and often play multiple speeds. They feel a little bit like plastic. BUT those 1980s, not so coveted, turntables are better then most new turntables under $500. THAT is just a fact. And vintage is a great way to listen to, and learn about, records and Hi-Fi.

There's something I'm still confused on. I have an Audio-technica LP3 with built in phone pre amp. I also have a set of Kanto YU4 powered speakers with a phone pre amp. Both have switched for phono and line. Which switch needs to be in with position? Currently they are both set to phono and the sound seems to come out of the speakers just fine but not sure if this the correct set up or not. Thanks 👍
@Recordology
@Recordology 2 года назад
It sounds like you have it connected correctly… Sending a phono level out of the turntable which is lower voltage bypassing the preamp… And into the speakers at phono level which it is expecting and then amplifying to the correct level. Sounds like you did it just perfect!

Question: I find when I play 45 rpm records some don't finish as the record player lifts before song over. How to adjust that?
@Recordology
@Recordology Год назад
Some record players have a 'reject point' adjustment on the bottom - sometimes you have to look internally.

Hi, I want to get a turntable from uturn but it's so confusing! If I buy the thousand dollar turntable I guess I need to buy a preamp and another amp along with speakers. I could buy a car with how much a record player costs these days. Why doesn't uturn offer a complete system? I don't want to have to buy so many components separately.

The Vinyl Guru is here! Love the content, 😃SUBCRIBE NOW! Easily the most useful and informative stuff on RU-vid as a whole about vinyl. 😑BUT, I did tune out for about 2 minutes after you said, "the RCA outputs, these are gold ones that have a little bit better conductivity." I would say less conductive or rather insulative! Yes you do want gold tipped everything. Gold plated connections are better when they are connected to other gold plated things. Also, good shielded cables are great, but gold is more insulative than conducted compared to silver or copper. It does add shielding from outside RF signals bouncing around the air and is highly corrosive resistant. Please note that gold on silver will speed up the oxidization of the silver, If that means your silver tipped cables are getting replaced sooner not a big deal, if that means your Devices connective port is wearing out sooner (is silver) well then that choice is up to you. I just hope this helps some people especially when dealing with older (silver) equipment. Pick your poison I guess.🤷‍♂
