In this video, we explore the record snowfall in the Sierra region and the challenges California faces as a result. The snow has been piling up and causing flash floods and flooding when it melts, leading to the closure of large sections of the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT), which is a lifetime bucket list for many hikers. The PCT is over 2,600 miles long, taking months to hike and providing stunning views of the West Coast. However, last summer, hikers were stopped by wildfires, and now, with the snow, they face additional challenges.
California's weather seems to be in constant whiplash, with the largest wildfires in history and record drought, followed by some of the most snow in history. People are struggling to adapt and keep up, but the impacts of these changes on California's environment are stark. Take a peek inside life on top of Donner Summit, in the shadow of towering piles of snow, a reminder that as soon as it begins to melt, flooding will become a big problem.
