The guitar finger picking got me thinking about Mark Gormley, wow, his songs are so beautiful! They are a prime example of, "good songs are more important than good sound".
Recording the mic'ed input and the jack input, at the same time, is genius. For some reason I never thought of it. I did exactly that, recording each simultaneously into separate tracks in Cubase, and hard panned them left and right. Little bit of reverb, and I've got the best acoustic sound I've ever managed to record. I know it's a noob thing, but this is a great step forward for me, so thanks for this!
You can use a pop filter alongside the microphone when recording from the sound hole to reduce the puffyness from the air coming out off the sound hole
Thank you for giving other options for people who don't have the same equipment! There are so many ways to accomplish recording acoustic guitar at home that diaphragm condenser mics aren't the end all be all of doing that. Great Tutorial!
bringing a discussion to the table, between the 3 mics they mentioned in the video which one would you choose? i checked on sweetwater and the prices were: shure ksm 137: 300 US$ sennheiser e614: 219 US$ audio technica at2021 and at2020 pack: 170 US$ shure sm57: 99 US$ I bought the focusrite pack with interface, cable and condenser mic, but i'd like to acquire a cardioic mic as one of those mentioned in the vid, which one of those would you suggest? it it worth paying for the sennheiser e614, or is it worth getting the audio technica pack? thanks in advance for anyone who may comment :)
I have a very old EV664 mic that I’d like to plug into guitar amplifier (VOX mini AC4TV) and play FX pedals through. I tried plugging XLR cable microphone directly into amp… feedbaaaaack!!!
Hi there, great video. I am having trouble recording my acoustic guitar with a Shure sm81. I am finding that even setting it as you Mention in this video, I am getting a very low level into pro tools. I have phantom power on, and even when I push the input volume on my focusrite pro 40 interface all the way to max, the recording level is only adequate at that point (but includes too much room noise) . So I turn the input back down to around 8, the background noise goes down but again the actual Recording level is much lower now (around - 30db). I am fingerpicking the guitar but even still, the recording volume is very very low, even if I strum the guitar, it's only around - 20db. I don't have the - 10 attenuation switch on and I have the mic set in the middle position (as recommended by Shure) but I've also tried it with that switch set to the left and still the same Problem. Any advice would be brilliant. Thanks Dave
The shimmer tone on the bridge placement is the best for me... On the other side, if you want to capture low end but high end shimmer as well, do a soundhole placed mic track and other on the bridge and mix them together
Should the room be acoustic treated or I can just record a good quality fingerstyle sound in a normal bedroom? do you cover a rug on your floor or is that hardwood or sth else? please answer this question because I have recording equipments but whenever I record in a bedroom I get a dead muddy sound with lot of resonant frequency!
Great video for a very interesting topic. Would the same ideas apply for a nylon classical guitar? Also, what is the difference between using a PA or an acoustic amplifier?
are there ever times when you would use the onboard electronics of an acoustic guitar to record? i have a 410ce taylor, and its got a really nice onboard fishman
Nice lesson sir, could you just make a video for acoustic guitar with vocals, going simultaneously n how to get both the tracks separate to work on em. Thanks
Guitar Boy Advance personally I avoid that, it has an E. Guitar sound that doesn’t sound like an acoustic, as well as losing the brightness of the acoustic strings
Thanks for sharing your knowledge about recording! 😊 I am starting my own fingersytle covers here on youtube i will apply all your tips. Thabks a lot 😊
I am trying to make the best sounding RU-vid video I can with very little money. I want to know is it possible to get clarity using amp only maybe with the Irig for affects. I just want me and a guitar. I do own a daw setup and box just isn’t what I want to do right now. I want live sound. If you watch my videos there is this fog or muddiness I bought a bass traps to see if it’d help. How do I get the best quality video with an acoustic a sm58 Marshall acoustic amp and me with my iPad . I may buy a new mic soon since I only have one. Any tips on volume setting and eq would help too. How much louder should vocals be how to bring guitar forward with out volume boost. I want to do what these leading music you tuber are doing on a budget. I have space and some basics help me? What am I not doing? I’d love to get to demo level that’s the overall goal not even professional level though that’d be awesome . To bad I can’t find a sponsor for mic trials.
I have an electric and acoustic guitar with electronics and I want to start recording! Do you guys recommend the Scarlett 2i2 or Axe I/O for better recording and sound quality? Help!
Thank you for your amazing video ! I'm about to buy this little red buddy, but i'm insecure about what i will get. I have watched few reviews of the Scarlett, and the sound quality of all of them was very good. So, i have a Shure PG27 USB microphone pluged direct into the usb port of the computer. The quality i get is not bad. So my point is will i get a better quality than what i have now and will i be able to connet my usb microphone through some kind of USB to MIC adapter and pluge it into this little Scarlett. And do you think that i will lost some quality because it's a usb microphone. Thank you !
I don't have a mic an audio interface, I got pickups that have a direct output/input (whatever it is) for an amp. I use this cable that connects to a usb for the computer and I kinda need help on how i can record acoustic directly into the computer.
ok so after you record in audacity well 1st are you line outputing the scarelet 2i2 to a camera? as in line out to headphone in of the camera? 2 nd after you record in audacity what EQ ing did you do
I've never heard about turning off the 48v power before disconnecting the mic. Why turn off 48v, curious? I suppose then you would want to turn it on only after connecting the mic.
I keep hearing breathing from my nostrils in recording and I can’t figure out how to breathe quieter or get a better mic placement to fix it. Any ideas?
