Recording artist Darren Hayes talks new album and the LGBTQ icons who inspired his music 

As a teenager I loved Darren. I remember him telling us girls to respect ourselves and to expect respect too. Idk, it always stuck with me. Cut to me 30 years later, all my crushes both irl and celebrity, have come out as gay, and Im pretty sure I was a gay man in my last life, bc most of my celeb crushes now are for either androgynous and/or gay men and women. It's funny that without knowing at the time that, like Darren said, there must have been something in my bones drawing me to these beautiful souls.

I’ve struggled with an Alcohol addiction due to struggling with being Transgender. I’ve felt suicidal, I’ve wanted to end my life by using Alcohol/thought about drowning also, but I was more into Alcohol being the reason I leave the world. That was years ago. Darren is my Hero, he’s saved me from my gender issues. I’ve struggled with self harm due to gender stuff too, I don’t hurt myself over my gender issues as he’s able to make them disappear. If I’m not feeling well, there’s a more chance I will hurt myself. I’m grateful for Darren. 💙🦋

Thank you for doing this interview. I remember coming out as a gay man to my immediate family and it was fine for me to be gay in their eyes. My dad even said that I looked better after I transitioned from female to male and coming out as a gay man was a non big deal until my landlord found out and then that is when trouble started for me, with being evicted for in part, being a gay trans man. Joni Ernst and Chuck Grassley made a mild too do about it in Washington D.C. in order to set up their agenda against trans people. I'm still working on my legal case regarding these matters. Thank You Darren and GLAAD for addressing topics of importance within our community.

I love that Darren Hayes came back after ten years his knew music is what we’ve been waiting for. There’s one song on his knew album that I can relate to and that’s poison blood I have depression anxiety and panic attacks music is my therapy if I get down I put music on and I can play the same song over and over again.
