I'm working on the forth song for my album and on this one I wanted to record guitars with my beloved, old Mesa Boogie. Let's see how I track and what's the signal chain.

Hi Kris, Du machst das echt klasse und erklärst das gut. Ich habe mit meiner Band 2008 das letzte Alabum aufgenommen. heute ist viel mehr und einfacher im Homerecording möglich, wir sind für das letzte ins Studio gegangen wo noch mit Cubase recorded, gemixt und gemastered wurde. Aber wir haben die Gitarren genau so aufgenommen um die Spuren natürlich fetter und dynamischer zu machen!

Man, this sounds really great! I'm sure, this song is gonna kick ass! I really like it! Have fun working on your album! Looking forward to it! :) Edit: btw... there is nothing wrong with punch ins. I know how frustrating it can get, if you need 300+ takes for a (obviously very difficult) part. As long as it flows, it's fine.

Aww thank you! Yeah, punching it is totally fine. I just prefer recording a full section in one go to keep it sound real and alive. It’s not just about the precision but about the groove and the ‚breathing‘ of the playing. Cheers!

Looking forward to your album! Your project has partially inspired me to set goals for the upcoming year, which I don't usually do: I plan to release both covers and original music during 2024. Also: my all-time favorite amp is probably the Mesa Mark IV, sound wise at least. Pain to tweak though 😅

Thanks a lot! I was thinking about it but then I went for different cabs for the two sides of the mix. That made a bigger difference which is good to avoid phase issues. Also, this LP is so awesome, I didn’t want to stop playing it 😆

Very cool and informative! I don’t get much time to record but just use my Fractal AX II into an UAD Apollo Twin into GarageBand. The Fractal gives me great guitar tones. I use the Fractal effects and UAD plug ins. Good luck with your recordings.

Dear Kris, amazing work! Looking forward to your album! Would you mind sharing your amp settings? I would really appreciate it. I am asking as I also have a MB Mark III and mine is incredibly bright - even with the Presence and Reverb knobs on Zero. I just seem to not be able to dial in a smooth classic rock sound. Hey Christian, thanks so much! Do you have a blue stripe Mark III? The different „stripe versions“ have a different tone. You can see the knobs and the graphic eq in the video. I have the first knob pulled, treble pulled, the master, lead drive and lead master pulled. Graphic eq on. Note that I boost the lows and the 240Hz on the eq quite a bit.

I love this Kris! thanks for bringing us along to see how you are doing this. I really appreciate it because I have to start recording some songs soon! Sounds great! oh and maybe you should have asked Gavin Harrison from Porcupine Tree to play drums on your songs too.....wouldn't that be awesome? No disrespect to the drummer you have, but Gavin is one of THE best!

I wanted to work with friends to make it a personal experience. And I’m super lucky to have such crazy talented musician friends so why would I choose other people? 😜 Cheers bro!
