Wow. You got both. I would have loved to be able to get both. At least for making comparison videos. I wish I could help with your choice but they are both such great sounding guitars, it would come down to personal preference. Let me know what you decide.
@@WOKINTUSD Your right, there are better hard cases out there. I just like having stock, when I can. And the manufacturers of their case make very good, wood cases.
Well thanks for watching and for commenting. I'm making other videos on this awesome guitar as I write this but those videos will probably be posted to my second channel, Life, Post Stroke. I'm working on a first setup video for this guitar and am doing the final edit now. I want to keep it under 30 minutes but there's a lot that goes into setting up a new guitar and I like to show everything...lol...
You series of videos both on this channel and your life post stroke channel along with JP Cormier's review convinced me to buy this guitar for my daughter for her to learn guitar on. Both she and I prefer rosewood for back and sides and mahogany necks are to die for.. I don't play guitar but I have some recording king banjos that I absolutely love. Thank you for these and your six months after begin videos. Thank you to Noah for putting the guitar through its paces.
You are very welcome and thank you for watching, and for subscribing. I do appreciate that. I've always said that you get the best guitar you can afford, to learn to play on. The better the guitar sounds, the more likely you will stick with it. Noah also has one of their banjos and loves it. He wants to learn to play it. I am getting ready to do a 1 year update on my RD-328 soon too, so be looking for that video.
FYI - Adirondack or Red Spruce is the most desirable top material for bluegrass instruments. It is louder and more aggressive than Sitka spruce. It is also more expensive, and pretty cool that Recording King can ship an Adi top at that price point.
Its the first guitar I've ever owned with a top made of that spruce. I'm very happy with it and plan on making another video very soon. A "6 months later" type video. So I can go over things I like and don't like after having it for that long. Heads up, there isn't much I don't like... Lol...
@@HayesTech The Recording King RD-338 is well respected in the Bluegrass community. It is cheap and sounds/plays as well as guitars costing thousands more. Recording King's less expensive series that have laminated back/sides still have solid spruce (usually Sitka) tops and sound way better than their price would suggest. Enjoy your guitar.
@@jeffreycohen3451 from what I've read and researched, The series 11 guitars are also all solid. They have that old time look, feel and sound and are made from solid mahogany back and sides with Adirondack spruce tops. They are in the $550.00 price range too. You are correct though, that all their guitars are made well, even if they have laminated backs and sides. Thank you for watching and for commenting. That helps me immensely .
That's awesome. Well if it's anything like mine, you will love it. I did another video on me setting it up and I didn't have to really do anything to it. I dressed 3 fret ends but they were actually not that bad. And the string hight was spot on too. I really am impressed with this guitar. The other videos I did on this guitar are on my other, small channel, Life, Post Stroke.
All solid wood guitars for that price are great 👍🏻. If I didn’t already have a Martin I’d buy one of these. The Epiphone all solid guitars are also fantastic. Sounds good though! Probably even better now. They take awhile to wake up and open up but that sounds great for being right out of the box 📦. Hope your still enjoying
It sounds so good now. I put out my 1 year later video and you can definitely hear the difference, since it's now broken in. And yes, Epiphone's all solid guitars are outstanding. We have their "Inspired by Gibson" J200 and love it. I've also got an Alvarez MD60BG, solid mahogany back and sides and Sitka spruce top. It sounds so good too.
Did you get yours from Chicago music exchange? They always do a great job of making sure that guitars is set up and plays good and you get to see your guitar before you get it.!
Yes I did. And as you said, they did a great job of packing it and setting it up. I only had to make a couple, small, adjustments to get it to play the way I like them. I just ordered a Martin HD-28V, a couple days ago. I can't wait to make a few videos comparing it to this guitar. I also want to put it up against Noah's Gibson J-45 rosewood... Sloped shoulder dred against straight shoulder dred. I can't wait... 😂
Chris Martin has said that when you play a martin for the first time, that's the worst it's ever going to sound. The same is true of nearly all quality guitars. There may be a very thin plastic film on the pickguard used to keep it from scratching during shipping. It peels off if you have one. You have one very nice guitar. Enjoy.
I couldn't agree more. Every all sold guitar I have just keeps getting better the older it gets and the more it's played. You should hear my 1965 Epiphone Texan FT79N...
Thank you. I do appreciate it. And I love this guitar. I can't wait to do the comparison videos between it and the Gibson J-45 studio. Both rosewood guitars with a totally different sound.
I'm still enjoying mine. I'm actually going to go into debt to get a used Martin HD-28V. But even after getting the Martin I'll be keeping my Recording King. I'll be making a video to compare them too, so be looking for that soon.

@@HayesTech Sounds awesome, I’ll definitely be looking for that upload. I’m subscribed now.
That is the only thing I don't like about it if the shape of the neck. I am getting used to it though. I may even reshape the neck since it's not a $3000.00+ guitar. So it isn't like I'm going to run it's resale value...lol
It's actually got a very nice action. I tad higher than Noah's Schecter but the same as his Gibson J-45. I can't believe how the thing sounds better each time it gets played too. Noah tells me that his Gibson was the same way.
That's awesome. Keep me informed on how well it holds up for you and if you have any issues. I'm going to do a 1 year update video and will be adding in comments from others like you.
i have it for about 7 month now... the only things i have notice is inside the guitar top X brace the white paper things that hold the X as become loose ..
@@Mason_bluegrass Mine seems to be holding out fine so far. That's too bad yours is doing that. You can just take a little Elmer's woods glue and a small brush and paint them with glue again. That should take care of that for you. You may need to thin down the glue a bit with water too. Good luck and let me know how it turns out for you.
I don't think it would ruin the sound of the guitar. I'm not a fan of any kind of pick-up system for guitars though. I only like the sound of guitars miced and that would be the only way I would set up a guitar for preforming. But I can understand where some people have to have a way to plug into an amp . I'm not familiar with the Highvibe system at all so I wouldn't be able to comment on it either. Sorry about that.
@@WOKINTUSD They are outstanding guitars. I've still got mine. And i even did a "1 year late video" on it and it just gets better and better. That's why I like all solid wood guitars.
@@HayesTech You know I said that about a J45 but after I got my Epiphone AJ500 Rosewood , that feeling is not there and when I get GAS , I pick her up and ask WHY ? I waited a long time to get the right Rosewood guitar now I am waiting on a Dove (come on Epiphone and make a IBG Dove LOL) but as Petty said "The Waiting Is The Hardest Part " as if you One Day !
@@thekycoffeebean What year is your AJ500? I have a AJ500MNS made in 2006 that I think is great and I have been looking for a similar model with rosewood back and sides ... but only in the first generation not the newer models.
Do you mean how my Recording King is doing? I could definitely do that since it's just past the one year mark. I did make a 6 month later video too but planned on doing a 1 year update as well. I wanted to get one of their RO 328 models but with the economy being the way it is right now, that's going to have to wait..
@@HayesTech yes, I have a RK RO328 but still like watching reviews of other models. Interesting, but there are hardly any new RK reviews on RU-vid and can't find any from 2022. It would be interesting to see how you are going with yours as your content is always enjoyable to watch.
@@raulands I will get that on my schedule. I will be picking up my Epiphone Texan soon and will be reviewing it too. I had my 65 Texan in the shop and they are almost done with it.. I can't wait to get it back. They are swapping out the rosewood saddle for a bone one. I can't wait.
I'm desperate for one but I live in the Philippines. Would anyone know the best way of acquiring RK guitars in this region? None of the dealers nearest to me ship internationally or have the models I want.
Wow. That's crazy that you can't get one there. I love your country and used to live in a small community on the very far end of Subic Bay, on the island of Luzan ( close to Olongapo ). I traveled all over the island, staying clear of the big towns, and just loved it. I wish I knew what to tell you about getting one of these great guitars. Just keep checking places like eBay, Reverb and other online sites. These guitars had a mass purchasing after JP Cormiar and others, like me, made videos on them.
I couldn't agree more. And believe me, if I had the money I would still like to get a D28. But that will never happen because of what they want for them. Lol.. But we can still dream. I am very happy with my Recording King though and it sounds so good. Almost Martin good.
@@HayesTech They are very close. I have a D18 and I’m going to be buying a RD328 because I want a rosewood dread too but I can buy a LOT of strings with the $2k + price difference! 😂
@@G_Demolished You will like it. I just hope that yours is as nice as mine. I've not seen or heard anything bad about this guitar yet though. Good luck to you and let me know how you're guitar purchase goes. I too would love to be able to afford to purchase a Martin but that will never be in the cards for me. .. lol .. But I'm very happy with my RD-328, so it kind of scratches that itch.
@@HayesTech I was only able to swing the Martin because GC was doing 4 years at 0%. I put a little bit down and got a $50 payment. It’s been very much worth it but I’m not sure I want to spend that much again. I’m going to pull the trigger on the RK when I clear the balance, probably with the next tax refund.
I'm having my Christmas giveaway. I'm giving away my Canon T6i with lens and batteries. He's on over to that video and get in on the drawing. It will be up till December 20, when I draw the winner.
I plan on it. But I'm order to review Android products I have to purchase them and money is tight right now. I do have plans for some apps and stuff like that soon though. Ii took a break for the holidays and got this for Christmas so I wanted to review it too.
Yep. It's close enough for me for what this costs. I always wanted a Martin D28 but could never afford it. This definitely satisfies that urge for me. I love this guitar. Thanks for watching and for commenting. I do appreciate it.
At this price (@ $850.00 US) you will not get a hard case. And I don't put much into guitar bags (that's what I call them) or soft cases. They are good for keeping dust and scratches off the guitar but will not help with dings and humidity. You can purchase hard cases for less than $100.00 US. Thank you for translating. I was going to just use Google translate but just never got the chance, yet...lol...
