Both flash drives were sent in by the same client. Flash drive that needed to be recovered had a broken connector with ripped out pads. Donor flash drive that was supplied, to our surprise, was not working either. Both flash drives showed that so work attempts were made. At first, we wanted to swap NAND and controller over to the donor printed circuit board, and swap donor components to the patient PCB (+repair the connector), but the donor turned out to have a completely dead controller chip that would not even drop into the safe mode when NAND from the donor is removed. We managed to recover clients' data by swapping critical components over to the donor PCB.

Sad to see so many bad recovery attempts done to devices send to you. They did pay most likely before big money for that very bad repair attempt. Love how you do your work, and your repair and soldering skills.

Not one word of hate or trash talk about the previous disaster. Thanks man for putting out quality content/knowledge without perpetuating the idea that its ok to be so angry and talk trash about the work done before that is often accompanied by these types of repair videos. This is especially important when there's people young (and old) that come to these videos as a from of guidance and mentor ship. An unfortunately refreshing thing to see. Keep up the great work!

I know I've noticed a lot of these drama queen technicians going on about other work. I mean if its something that looks a complete and utter disaster then sure maybe say something but for the most part a lot of this stuff is possible to work around.

I hadn't been backing up recent files and a relatively new flashdrive suddenly just stopped (another review!) and I decided to try recoverit- amazingly, the software EaseFab Data Recovery pulled everything out of that crusty flashdrive. It was absolutely worth the $59- anything to avoid days of work that I really didn't have. You may have to rearrange files and repair a few, but who cares- the files were all there. This is one tool I won't forget and have recommended it to others.

Awesome video man, Could you let me know what size tools you use like what what soldering iron, flux, what you rinse the board with? I'm in Aus and wanting to attempt to recover a USB but am planning on trying a few trial runs on cheap USBs with nothing significant on them. Thanks man!
@ParadoxicalMilkSnare

When putting the NAND on the donor board, it doesn't look like you use any solder? Or do you just touch the 4 corner pins and the rest of the pins make enough contact?

how would someone pursue a career doing this sort of work? is there an industry certification/training?
@hddrecoveryservices

Opening shop is easy, getting clients who would pay for work is hard. What part you would like to know? There is no certification. Main tools that are used daily need to be learned.
