My RPAO is coming up in 12 days after a labral reconstruction. It's so comforting to watch your videos and know that I'm not alone. Thank you for this. I plant to document my surgery journey too. We need as many warriors sharing these stories as we can get. It's not easy to say "yes" to a PAO.

@@MandMCo94 I'm so inconsistent about making videos. It's my goal to be better at it so I set a "new school year" resolution for myself to make a video once a week whether or not I publish it. We'll see how that goes. I do really want to help the next person who has to do all of this. It's a lot for anyone, and there just isn't much out there. Idk if you're in it or not, but there is a PAO group on facebook that has been absolutely wonderful. You could probably help a lot of people there just by answering questions (if you're not already)

I love these videos! I’m 34 and In two months will have this surgery done. I have the same exact symptoms and pain as you have described. I feel I don’t have the information on the recovery process so I appreciate you taking the time and teaching and letting me know your healing process. A few questions..what was good to eat when you were able to after surgery? Should I buy microwavable ramen and crackers? I’m trying to set up to mainly be on one floor of my house

I'm so glad this video helped you out! I loved warm easy things to eat like soup, so I think ramen would be a good option! And I loved triscuits haha. And fruit! And I ate plain chips immediately after surgery when I could. It was simple and easy on my stomach coming off of the anesthesia. Good luck with your surgery and recovery!

How long were you off work for? did you go back to work before the screw removal ? Thank you for sharing.

For my PAO, the surgery was mid June and I was back to school/work in September. I was a student and didn't have a full time job to rush back to, and I am very thankful for that. I think the 2.5 months was a great amount of recovery time. I was back to regular life from September until the following June when I got the screws removed. I was only off work for a week with the screw removal 🙂 I hope that helps!

When did you have pain free walking? I’m on week 12 of my PAO recovery and have been walking without a device for 3 weeks and still have pain but it has lessened.

Hi Holly, I'm glad you're experiencing less pain! For me, it was around month 4 that I could walk normal distances pain free, and month 5 for longer distances. I hope your PAO was successful and that you continue to heal quickly!

hi i am 8 weeks post op from my PAO. have you by any chance had experience with pregnancy and/or childbirth after surgery? i turned 20 3 days after my surgery and im looking for more info on pregnancy post op. all i can find is that there’s a 50/50 chance of having a c-section. did you end up needing your screws removed?
@MandMCo94
@MandMCo94 2 года назад
Hi! I have not yet had experience with pregnancy after this surgery- it has been a huge question for me ever since I recovered though! I plan to document that experience when it happens. I did get my screws removed one year after my original surgery. I found them to be uncomfortable for me personally- I could kind of feel one of them! I felt much more comfortable after having them removed and it was just a day surgery so it was quick and I recovered in a week from that. I hope your recovery is going smoothly!

8 weeks out of my pao surgery...im kind of worried that maybe i reinjured myself while recovering... or maybe im just trippin...i was wondering if your progression was linear or non linear...such as like for the first 6 weeks i felt like i was slowly getting better over time and now for some reason these last 2 weeks iv been in quiet a bit of pain....would you consider that similar to your recovery or no?
@MandMCo94
@MandMCo94 3 года назад
Oh no, I'm sorry you've got that worry on your mind! Hopefully it's nothing! I don't remember the exact timeline, but I do remember that once I started walking more and using those weak leg muscles more, my hip would ache so badly! It wasn't the same type of pain as from the incision or the bones healing. It was an intense overarching ache all over the top of my thigh, my pelvis, and my lower back on the operative side. I'm not sure if that's what you're experiencing, but I know that some days were worse or better than other days, pain wise. I hope that helps!

Did you have to sleep in a certain position while your hip was healing?
@MandMCo94
@MandMCo94 3 года назад
For the majority of time in the hospital I would sleep on my back. At home, with the help from others at first, I started to try and lay on my non-operative side. I actually found it uncomfortable because it felt like my body dipped in at my hips and it felt like I could feel my screws on the inside? (Not sure how else to explain it!). Once my incision was more healed, I actually found it more comfortable to lay on my operative side! Always with a pillow between your legs though if laying on your side!

@@MandMCo94 Thank you for replying. I haven’t had my surgery yet and my hip dips when I lay on my better hip, which is painful. Thank you for posting this detailed video.

What was your labor experience! Did you feel there was any change in experience because of this procedure? Just recently diagnosed at 8 months PPD and experiencing quite a bit of pain maybe due to the additional weight from pregnancy!

@MandMCo94
@MandMCo94 3 года назад
That is a really good question! To be honest, I can't remember it 100% but I'm pretty sure it remained normal. I was able to do everything I needed to with tampons etc as well. I think I used liners for backup because I was laying down alot and just wanted to be safe than sorry haha!
