The Arizona Department of Corrections Rehabilitation and Reentry is pioneering the use of inmates as State-Certified Recovery Support Specialists to assist their peers in recovering from addiction and preparing to have a life worth living sober.
In partnership with Arizona Complete Health (www.azcompletehealth.com/), ADC's Counseling & Treatment Services trains inmates to be Arizona State-Certified Recovery Support Specialists. RSS's responsibilities can include: running group sessions, tracking progress, and satisfying State and Federal reporting requirements.
This responsibility not only helps the RSS's in their own recovery, but also provides significant employment opportunities in the community once they are released from prison.
By breaking the cycle of addiction and criminal thinking, inmates can truly find a second chance to re-enter the community as successful and productive citizens.
