I’m an atheist, alternative, 17 year old European girl, this would normally not be the thing I’m interested in (even though I would love to learn how to make my own clothes), but you are the only RU-vidr that I ever watch a 40 minute video from!! You are so welcoming and relaxed, but definitely not boring!! I love watching you and I hope you have a good day!!!

A couple of tips from a n old sewing teacher: -To prevent bird nests at the start of a seam, without having to remember to hold onto the threads, start and end any line of stitching by sewing off of or onto a scrap of fabric. It prevents those tangles and saves thread too! Sew right off of the scrap, and onto your seam. At the end of the seam, stitch onto another scrap instead of pulling the fabric away from the machine and leaving a thread tail, (unless you've got another seam lined up behind it.) Now the scrap is already there when you start again. Clip off the one you started with, you can reuse it. It takes a while to make it a habit, but it really helps. For your lined dress bodice, you can save time and eliminate the binding if you sew the lining RIGHT side to the bodice and turn it toward the inside as you would a facing. Before the rest of the dress assembly of course! If the fabric is stretchy, add a 1/4" strip of a stable fabric (or stay tape) to the seam or understitch it on the lining side. To make gathering easier, zigzag carefully over a bit of thin string or thick thread, being careful not to catch it in the stitching and keep the zigzag in the seam allowances so you don't have to rip it later. Then you just slide the fabric along the thicker thread. So much easier than basting, and the thread never breaks!

yesss!! when I saw she went through the trouble of making a double bodice for the lining and put in wrong side out I was so confused... About the gathering tip, there are presser foots that help by keeping the thicker tread encased in the midle while we sew the zigzag. Plus, another way of gathering is to ajust the length and tension, in most fabrics the machine does the work for us! but its harder to ajust later if needed.

You are me! I sewed with my daughter's around as soon as they were old enough. Children naturally love to do what they see you enjoying if they have aptitude for it, and my girls both sew all kinds of things all the time now. Also I love the way you include the things we all do (or at least I do) like knocking the mug with your elbow and not being sure whether a project will come out well!

I love your channel, your projects, and how honest & relatable you are! You are making the most of this precious period of your life as a stay-at-home Mom. You are an excellent role model for other young Moms, but women of all ages can find inspiration in how you plan your day around your children’s schedule. Working woman can also put your ideas into practice for a more productive day. I like that you use the early morning time before the kids get up to tidy & clean, prep for breakfast & day’s activities, and work on your channel. You spend quality time with them & let them help & learn, but you also give them time on their own for imaginative play & exploration. They are always within sight & in safe surroundings. While they nap, you have your quiet time or learn new skills, make plans, finish projects and film. You use your time wisely, dedicating yourself to family and couple time, which are the most precious times of all. You live out your faith and values in real & practical ways. Thank you for sharing all your times with the RU-vid world. Love & blessings to you and yours 🦋🌸🐝🌼🐸🍄🐕🐾🏡💒💗

Tiered dress for the win! So cute. I think maybe the reason the pattern fits you differently than when it was just a shirt is that the weight of the skirt pulls the blouse down so the curves hit you differently...where the waist dips in is now pulled down to the hip (so it feels tight), and under the arms the fabric can pull away from your body due to the weight of the tiers. You might try a belt at the waist to see if you like the fit better. The belt will allow the waist to sit back up where you want it, and carry the weight of the skirt. Just tack loops of embroidery floss into the side seams for belt loops. A braided rope belt might look boho chic! Just an idea...if you are comfortable enough then leave it as is.

Love the sewing tutorial! When I learned to see a ruffle we were taught to sew to lines of basting stitch about 1/8" apart and gather. Then sew to the garment in between the two lines to lock in the ruffle. Then pull out the bottom basting stitch and voila! A ruffle

For the color blocked shirt that you did first, I would recommend sewing all your fabric like a quilt, piecing each together, then pressing it and cutting out your pattern after you have put that part together. It would remove those seams that you have stitched down and give you a more polished look. :) I think with that little change it would be perfect!

I'm newish to sewing and you've helped me to realize how easy sewing a shirt can be. :-) The ruffles are cute, but I doubt I'd ever take the time to make them myself. I kind of want to sew more clothes, but I find that almost always, buying them is cheaper...tbd on if some day I take in on as a hobby in spite of the higher price. For now, I'm sticking to household projects, a few baby gifts for friends, and cloth masks for wearing when I have to go on errands. Thanks for the sewing inspiration!

You are so brave! I loved watching you create your outfits. When my husband and I lived in the Philippines, I I had a seamstress who came to the house weekly. I simply showed her a picture and she produced an outfit that looked exactly like the picture without any pattern. She was able to make my sisters maternity clothes and dresses for my mother both of whom lived in Texas and for my children and of course for me. I’m marveled at her ability to look at a picture, take measurements and produce something so beautiful and professional. I really enjoyed watching you Meggan. Is there anything you can’t do? Bravo!! “A life long learner”... that resonates with me. This video certainly watered a seed that has been under the surface for a while...I would love to learn how to sew. Simple things initially. This morning I came across a bag of scrap fabric and I thought that it would be great if I could sew some cloth napkins. But I think I’ll search Pinterest to see if I can find a tutorial on how to sew fabric napkins by hand. Keep on creating 🌼It’s inspirational and satisfying to watch 😊 Take care and keep well 🌺

I really like the 2nd shirt you already had with the ruffled bottom--it is so cute on you. You should wear it! If you think it isn't modest, maybe sew a higher waisted slim skirt or a slip-style dress to go under it so you wouldn't show any skin when you bend over. The first shirt was a bad idea--it brings all the attention to the bust. Thanks for the sewing videos. I love that you're so creative and willing to just go for it trying new things!

For a double bodice like you made, it can help to trim 1/8 inch from the inner layer neckline before you sew it. It will turn and pull more to the inside when you line up the shoulders as usual, giving a turn in that lays to the inside. I am impressed at how you drape and draft your own patterns. This is very cute. I like every thing you did. For the quilted shirt, it seems the inspiration was in quilting cotton and your shirt in a rayon knit. Hard to duplicate easily, but you did it well.

something you said spoke to me , you asked "does anyone have that on edge feeling when sewing too" I do not sew but i do have a edge or leaning into the unknown feeling when painting. it is as if the painting is happening and becoming itself through the process . i love this time , because i feel closest to the creator during these moments m,y mind is clear and i am just in the creative mode. God did not have a pattern when the world was created . I've learned to lean into that time and really connect with the creator and universal love that fuels this life. anyways , that got a bit deep ...but yes live on the creative edge ...where god is

I love them all!! You do not look like you are expecting with any of them. I know we are harder on ourselves, but truthfully you look fantastic in all of them! Way to go. I sew quilts but I fail at making clothing!

This was wonderful. I liked the dress also. My mother used to make my clothes and she did as you do.

I don't much care for sewing vids, but I found this one interesting. Probably because you kept it simple. The designs are cute. Everything looks nice on you, imo. The top with the two ruffles, I felt could use one more ruffle to make it longer. Loved hearing Evonnie talk about her doll bumping her head and breaking her arm. She makes me smile. Every time.

I wish I could sew!! I think I need to get along to a class once lockdown is over as I would love to able to sew like you! I can never find what I want in stores so making my own seems better!

The dress is adorable! The neckline is definitely a subtle sweetheart but it is very sweet.

BTW: The ruffled bottom edge on knits is called a Lettuce edge. Great job. I love your free-form sewing.

I’m not happy you were having problems with your sewing machine or that some of your projects didn’t turn out the way you hoped, BUT it is so encouraging that things don’t always go right for you either-whew!

THANKS! This was a fun one, but LOTS of work. But I would have been sewing anyway, so why not film? Right?!
