GWs era of promoting conversion and self-made terrain was one of the greatest highs in the hobbies history. Their SBGiME magazine had a piece of terrain at the end of every magazine, some of them are still really unique and easy to make designs.
I absolutely loved those old magazines. They scaled so well with someone entering into the hobby. By the time you got to some of the later editions there were some legitimately great terrain and painting guides. These days GW only show how to paint the things they sell. It feels like the heart of what made this hobby so great has been lost. But maybe I am just being a grumpy old neckbearded grognard 🤣
Oof that was ace! Two things I would like to see: This series continued. And a big big project. Zorpazorp-esque but actually finishable 😂. Could be a year-long series to really show off the scale you can use this build system at
Love this idea! But zorpazorp and finishable can never be used in the same sentence hahaha. I do have an idea for my own take on a different t type of modular board for osgiliath though. That would take at least a year to make🤣
It really is the best supplement. I was looking back at some of the later supplements like Gondor in flames and this terrain is still the highlight of that supplement 🤣
Thanks for the sub mate. The idea to combine 3D prints and foam was brewing for a long time but it took quite a while to make it a reality. Rest assured there will be more to come!
Thanks mate and this is a great idea! I would absolutely love to do that final comparison shot and even compose some of the close up shots for a game of spot the difference.
Thank you! Depending on where you are in the world I can put you in contact with one of our licensed merchants and you can buy some physical prints off them.
Looking good mate. I’ll be employing that some joint technique for my great hall of dale build. Definitely keep going with the builds. Id love to see a whole table of Fornost ruins.
Cheers mate. I will keep working away on this series in the background in the hope GW do a new supplement for Arnor this year. Definitely give the corner technique a try if you’ve got a hot wire cutter it’s really easy!
I had a very similar experience with that supplement, I was almost out of the hobby and focused on Uni but that supp dragged me back in with the setting. Fantastic builds mate, that weathering was perfect 😎🤙 I also have a strange obsession with barrel/crates scatter 😂
I'm glad its not just me that has an obsession with barrels and crates 😂. Also glad to hear there is someone else out there that has the same nostalgia for this supplement! still up there with the all time best books ever produced for the game
Great job! But I wonder what is this building used for? I know that GW made it first in theirs book, but what is it? Gazebo? so why there is floor? Bell/watch tower? so where are stairs? And Im waintig for more terrain from arnor! My Angmar forces need to know the cities of their enemies!
An excellent question! I think this would have been a gazebo or pavilion once upon a time. It may have had a domed roof that had collapsed and been cleared away. The roof was replaced with a hasty timber platform and rangers would use it as a lookout. I almost imagine the angmar forces to be the equivalent to the walking dead so the defenders would want to hide any ladder or rope to get up, making it a safe point to rest off the ground. Does any of that makes sense? Could the the domed roof collapse and the walls still be standing? Probably not but at a certain point we must suspend disbelief and pursue the rule of cool! Great thought provoking question though! Thanks for stopping by and watching 🙂
@@microforgeminis np, I was trying to put more information and links in the comment but RU-vid kept deleting it. He has great lotr scenery like his frostguard set. The barrels and crates are from his tale of two cities set
the irony of you talking about GW selling plastic terrain sets instead of encouraging scratch building while using slice and slot (no hate) cool stuff, probably a nice blend of ready-made and scratch built for people who don't want to invest infinite time into building their own terrain
@@microforgeminis I got 3 sheets from ACT foam company 10mm thick, fairly large sheets (like 4ft long) for $50 including postage. Any chance you sell/stock those MDF jigs. I just got the original MMF package to try out.
For some reason RU-vid forgot to notify me of your reply sorry dude. And yes I still have a bunch of mdf jigs. Drop me an email microforgeminiatures@gmail.com and I will shoot you an invoice and get them posted up to you!
Completely agree with both comments. The game was (and still is imo) the best ever made by GW. The scale is so all over the shop it’s ridiculous. But I suppose on the positive side it means you can proxy any miniatures for the game and they fit right in 🤣
