Firefighters use many techniques, including digging control lines, to keep fires from spreading. Digging a control line establishes a barrier between the unburned fuel and the fire. Equipment used includes shovels and pulaskis (an ax/pic hybrid created for wildfire uses). In 2014 Boise Fire responded to more than 97 wildfire calls.
