A quick vid about rectal cancer...I feel like I could have said more, on the other hand I might have said too much...
Didn't broach chemotherapy but I did have that too if you want to ask about it.

A positive attitude is everything! That's what got me through 2017...the year that everything took a back seat to rectal cancer diagnosis, radiation, chemo, surgery, stoma, more chemo and a final reversal surgery in December. I wish you well ... stay strong!

You my dear are the most amazing human! I was diagnosed with anal cancer April 25 2022. I had chemo and radiation. I am having a colostomy because of radiation damage. My scan is clear. I am so very grateful and yet at times overwhelmed by it all. You are the most real communicator I have listened to yet! I am so very sorry your cancer had spread. I checked and you are still fighting and bravely living in 2023. Thank you for fighting. It’s like you are fighting for so many cancer people. ❤

All so true, so far its how I am feeling, I have rectal cancer stage 3a. Done radiotherapy and chemo now waiting for one more scan to see if anything has changed. Thanks for sharing, and McMillan are amazing.

Thank you so much for your video. I was diagnosed with cancer on Dec. 7th, 2016. They actually never confirmed that it was rectal or cervical, but we call it rectal. I had my big surgery to remove the tumor on May 18th, 2017. I have a permanent clostomy now. Watching this video was like hearing my own story. I am very sad to hear about the tumors in your lungs. I will be thinking about and praying for you. Again, thank you so much for sharing your story. It really means a lot to know that I am not alone.

Wow, yes, we are in very similar situations, although I hope that your cancer is in complete remission... I'm still finding new ways of thinking about the stage 4 thing, and trying to deal with it all best I can, which is all anyone can do in these situations...I hope you have a great support network around you...cancer can feel very lonely, I'm glad you find some comfort knowing you're not alone...Good luck with your journey, I'm here to talk to :) x

Thank you for offering support to everyone. I cannot imagine what you're feeling. I'm having the conversation about a colonoscopy with my doctor, so I'm quite scared, but hearing someone else in a different circumstance be strong and positive helps a lot. Hi MultiFantastical (great name!), nice to meet you :) And thank you for your comment. I'm just getting on with it like anyone else in my situation does, I'm just glad I can offer any kind of support or empathy for people. Try not to worry about the colonoscopy, they give you a nice (light) sedative and you feel very little...I know it's hard thinking about being prodded and poked, especially in such private areas, but if you need it done it's helpful to remember they've done it a hundred times before. Best of luck to you, I'm here to chat to if you need me :) xx

Hi Penny, I am so sorry. I have been going through the same thing since October of 2011. About 6 months after my first surgery I had very bad pain in my tailbone area. Long story but had to go for scans then bone biopsy. By the time I got surgery because had to wait 3 months to get a plastic surgeon. The special Hospital I had to go to had lost 3 of their plastic surgeons. I had to have a flap made to cover the bone that was removed. Luckily, I had no lymph node involvement but it had gotten into arterial. This is how I believe it traveled. I only had one treatment of a platinum chemo. Couldn't tolerate and gave me double vision. Have had 2 surgeries on the tailbone, then the sacrum. 1st surgery left positive microscopic cancer on left bone margin. Went through radiation for the second time and am maxed! Needless to say, it came back and I only have 1 section of the sacrum left and am blessed that I can walk by the Grace of a God. I have been on a strict organic diet and juice as much as possible, organic yogurt with organic berries. Have also been taking organic curcumin/turmeric with black pepper and olive oil. Also, milk thistle, which cleans your liver, lots of Vitamin C! In the U.S., we are not allowed intervenous vitamin c. Most Doctors do not believe in natural. I believe that we are bombarded with poison/pesticides. This is a horrible disease as you and I know! You never know until you have to go through something. I will be praying for your healing. Please stay positive and do not ever give up! Much Love and Prayers!!!

Hi Kathy, nice to meet you (I hope you left this message for me, as you used the name Penny! I'm Jo... :) ) So your journey sounds long and arduous, you've been through so much...Both chemo and radiation are harsh regimes, I'm sure I still have brain fog from the chemo, can't be premature menopause alone :/ Do you have any treatment plans in place for the future at all? Are you having regular scans? It sounds like you're doing a lot to help yourself, which gives a sense of control - which is always good in our cancer journeys. I'm lucky enough to be able to go to a holistic/integrative medicine cancer centre (Penny Brohn) which is a whole person approach and starts at the diet level, they suggest variety, organic wherever possible and as many colours as possible, based on fifty percent plant based. I try to adhere to it as much as possible but life gets in the way etc... I really hope you are feeling well at the moment and you find yourself to be in as good health as possible...thank you so much for your kind wishes, I send the same to you :) xx

Hi Jim, great to meet you...I'm really sorry to hear that you feel so alone, I hope you can find some support groups or organisations that you can go to...in some ways I haven't felt not alone since this whole cancer journey began in 2015, it's one of the hardest things to convey to people who haven't experienced cancer...I can be in a room full of people and feel completely isolated, very strange. Again, I hope there is somewhere/someone you can go to for any support you need, and I'm always here of course :)

It is Okay to put this on youtube... this is for awareness for others! I have so many symptoms and would like to know if you have the same? I had a bowel obstruction 2 years ago and have a 10.6 cm cyst on my right ovary, 1cm cyst on my liver...constipation, sharp pain in my butt and vagina, fatigue amongst; others things. Hey, this is a really great video - thank you for sharing your experiences. It’s actually remarkably similar to my story. I was diagnosed at the end of April and have gone down the Natural route so far. I’ve just had my Staging MRI last week & I’m waiting for the follow-up appointment. I was also examined because of my Bleeding, but that was a couple of years back & I was then given the diagnosis of Piles & given some cream... but that was it. 2 years then past & the Bleeding got worse. I thought it was a side-effect of the Tramadol I was taking for my Chronic Back Pain & it took a while for me to go to the Doctor & insist something wasn’t right. It was only THEN (with a different Doctor) that I had a more thorough examination & the eventual Cancer Diagnosis (much quicker this time). I think Surgery is going to a must, but I have already decided against Chemo & Radiation Therapy afterwards, instead opting for Vitamin C IV Treatment (after a LOT of research in to it). I would love to Chat on Skype some time as this whole Stoma thing is really sh*tting me up (poor use of THAT phrase lol). Thank you again for sharing your story. Hey Rick, sorry for delay, been going through some stuff...you are going to be fine with your stoma, believe me...it was more than sh*tting me up, at points I thought I would rather let the cancer have me than live with a colostomy bag...but here I am 20 months down the line and everything colostomy is GOOD... I hope you get on ok with the treatment, just remember to be kind to yourself, don't over-do anything and let the people around you help... Jose Martinez please see a doctor immediately. Don’t be embarrassed. It’s your doctors’s job to find out what’s wrong and they can’t do it unless you are candid about what is going on.

Really appreciated your video. Right now I am just beginning my journey through the American health care system. Minor pain medication helps me deal with the sensitive tumorous growth developing just inside my rectum. I am waiting to start tests and necessary treatments. The waiting is very frustrating. Doctors seem to value guaranteed insurance payment for service as much as treating their patients.

hi dear i was so touched by your story :( ur so brave and beautiful i did relate a lot with the fact that u need to be alone when ur unwell .. if i may ask you did you have sort of huge pain in the sigmoid / rectum area ? constipation and diareha ? lots of air and gaz in the echography ? thank you and stay positif

Hi Hiba, nice to meet you :) Thank you for your kind comment, and it's always nice to relate to another human being... So are you worried about symptoms? Yes I did have a searing, sharp pain in my rectal area, it came and went. I didn't have constipation, but much looser than usual stools (poop). I didn't have an ultrasound/echography in the beginning, I went straight for a sigmoidoscopy then colonoscopy, but did have some change in the gas department, I couldn't tolerate spicy or rich foods so well. If you are worried just be persistent with your doctor, don't delay...hopefully it is nothing to worry about though...Peace and light to you xx

to be honest i am not the kind of person that worries a lot when it comes to healt issues, but recently i gotta say that yes i'm a bit worried since the pain ( that comes and goes as you said ) can be exruciating :/ the doctor asked for stools test in order to look for blood in it and from there he'll decide for the colonoscopie wich i must say is a huge phobia to me since i'm super duper shy and reserved .. thank you soooo much for your reply you're such an inspiration with no exageration i prayed for ya the last couple of days ♥ ^_^

Thank you for your kind words Hiba :) It's good to not be a worrier, always think positive if possible, it goes a long way towards all sorts of healing. As for the colonoscopy, I'm with you on that front...I am so private and reserved with my body, I daren't show my ankles most of the time, I'm a rather Victorian-era prude...for my very first digital examination I chose a doctor I trusted (it was even a man) and a nurse was there holding my hand...as for the colonoscopy, I knew it had to be done so swallowed my shyness as much as possible and let them do it. They give you a nice sedative so that you feel relaxed and you just lay on your side...and they've seen people's private parts hundreds of times. I kept telling myself that, and that if I wanted to find out once and for all I needed to do it. You can tell your doctor how nervous you are and they may even give you one diazepam/Valium tablet just to get you through...I hope that all is normal for you and it's something simple like internal haemorrhoids...Good luck with everything, and do keep in touch

knowing about the symptoms you had, im now scared. seriously, im shaking right now. have been experiencing most of the symptoms you mentioned for maybe 2 years already but im ignoring it. the sharp pain in the right inner part of my rectum when i poop, pencil-thin stools, a feeling of not emptying properly, a bit of bleeding, but im not really sure if the bleeding is frequent or excessive, i honestly dont look at my stool after i poop. it had been my habit not looking at it. but the pain i feel in that part of my rectum when the stools are trying to come out is seriouly unbearable. it really really hurts. feels like my anus is gonna rip off. it hurts that bad that i just wanna keep in the stool and not let it come out anymore. please help. im really scared right now. and im so scared to go to the doctor and have it checked. i know i really need to but this is just so terrifying. im only 25 years old and i have a son. im thinking a lot of possibilities right now. im more afraid just thinking i might leave my son at a very young age. 😭😭😭😭

Hey Dyann...Listen, I know it's like, the scariest scenario you can imagine, but here's the truth. If it IS cancer, the longer you wait, the less chance of curing it there is. Sorry to put it like that but you really do need to see a medical professional.Now I know you're scared to hell, I was, believe me, but what is more scary is the prospect of not being around for your son...You NEED to get to a doctor as soon as possible and just let them examine you like they have done hundreds of times before to all kinds of people.Most likely it's not cancer at all, and it can be explained away by something like Crohn's, which is the most likely outcome at your age. I hope I'm not scaring you by being so blunt, but my case has taught me this: I don't want any more young people to have to get advanced stage rectal cancer, and the solution is a simple examination. I'm being tough with you because if I'm not, and I don't feel like I've done all in my power to help you get the examination/attention you need, that's on me.Try to stop thinking about the possibilities before you know what's going on, you have to be brave for your son and get to a doctor. And if the doctor says you're too young (which is hopefully the case - that you haven't got cancer) you are entitled to a second, third, fourth opinion until you feel satisfied you are being taken seriously.Again, I'm really not trying to make you more scared, I just hope you find the courage in you to get the help you need...PM me if you need to talk or leave more comments...whatever the outcome, the sooner you get seen, the better your chances are of living a long and wonderful life with your little boy

Thanks for doing this video! I was just diagnosed with rectal cancer June 19,2018, I begin radiation & Chemo treatments July 9 to shrink the tumor down before surgery. It's 10 cm. I've never had a serious illness before & have only been in the hospital for childbirth. I 'm wondering how painful is recovery from the surgery & about how long it takes to feel better.

I am terrified, to the point of delaying stool testing. I have NO ONE who actually cares. My only son stole $20,000.00 to kill my credit and fuel his coke habit. He has no care in the world for me. I am hemorrhaging financially and emotionally. I almost hope it's cancer - so I can see my late husband and Mom again soon! Emotional pain far trumps physical pain. Can only hope a quick end. I am hoping for a quick mercy.

Adam, Hi... So I get a lot of hip and back pain anyway so I couldn't tell you if it was ever connected to the cancer. My advice is to just get to a doctor, hopefully there is nothing to worry about, but your mind won't rest until you get checked out. Always better to be safe... Just think of it as a routine thing that needs to be done... Good luck with everything, I'm here if you need to talk about anything...x

That's really great to hear Adam, I speak to a lot of people who are worried about symptoms but are too afraid to go to a doctor, which of course I understand, especially when it comes to such a personal, private area. Got Stoma? Vlogostomy hi love how are you,,, Ive seen the doctor and all the really embarrassing tests and then a colonoscopy. I got good news it isn't cancer, they said its pudendal nerve,, No clue what that is, I get an MRI scan tomorrow, I was told I might need surgery tho. Anyway I wanted to see how you where and keep you updated on my condition. Take care and never lose the great positivity that you have 😊👍

Adam, that is amazing news!! So the Pudendal nerve is one of the main nerves in your pelvic region, around the rectum and perineum. That would explain the pain and strange sensations. I'm really happy for you, I hope they can sort out your symptoms soon, keep me updated...And thank you, I'll try to keep my positivity going :D xx

my father has rectal cancer. we got the result yesterday :( . he has to undergo chemo for three months to reduce its size and remove after. :(

I'm so sorry to hear that jepoy. It's a scary time, I know. It's a good sign that they feel they're able to treat it with chemo, it will make surgery more effective and easier. I'm sure you are already but offer your father as much support as he needs, maybe more, depending on how well he deals with his emotions (I know a lot of men don't). It is a very lonely time having cancer and going through treatment so you can be there for him and it will help tremendously. Also eating a varied nutritional diet will help keep him feeling more energised during chemo and will help with healing afterwards.
