I have been playing this piece for 30+ years, but not recently having 'moved on'. After watching this video I recorded my performance and on play-back was NOT pleased! Thanks for pointing out my technical flaws. I don't remember being so 'flawed' in my playing of this piece lol, but maybe what I was hearing in my head was not what I was playing? Anyway, thank you again. I always learn something from you. Peace...

Hi .In my opinion this is the best lesson on tremolo on you tube .Many observations that I have arrived at myself from years of trial and error are reinforced here .Especially good to hear that” planting “ has limited usefulness.What I am currently finding improves results in the evenness department is playing pipipipi….,then pmpmpmpm…..then papapapapa… >pipmpapipmpa .This gets the thumb to almost become like a finger . Thanks for your work.James.

Thank you Gohar , this is the best description of how to think about how to take on this technique. I tried this from my main knuckle as you advised with the different combinations and immediately felt tendons in the top of my hand working that I never felt working when picking from the middle knuckle. Very clearly why I haven't been getting any progression with building speed. Thank you so much!

Hello Miss Vardanyan, unfortunately for me I missed your recent masterclass because of my schedule (and it was only 40 minutes from where I live - aargh!). But anyway, I just wanted to chime in to say that your 'starting with a different finger' tremelo routine as explained in the above video has really helped me ; not just in tremelo but pretty much finger control across the board. Best wishes -a fan.

Really helpful video Gohar 👍 Your tremolo sound is very lovely I had a listen to your performance from the link. The difficulty is to not have it sound staccato even many players who play music beautifully struggle to get that flow. One thing that I found helpful was to hold that sound of the tremolo, the perfect flowing sound in my mind as I played taking my concentration away from my finger action and concentrating on the sound in my mind. Of course you need to do the ground work with your finger action first which this video gives excellent advise of how to

Thanks Gohar for this wonderful lesson, I have been practicing for years without any success, whenever I try to speed up or play louder my ring finger kind of making a motion in ellipsis orbital from the right side into the soundboard and going upward, also my thumb often makes big movement causing right hand displacement from ideal position...

Another excellent lesson. One comment: One of the most memorable performances of this piece that I recall is one from long ago by Julian Bream, where (in my memory) he played the tremolo as continuous triplets. At least this is how I remember it, but curiously I cannot find any evidence of this recording. The thumbstrokes for the bass were slid rhythmically in between each triplet group. I've been playing tremolo with this triplet feel for quite some time, rather than as four-beat clusters -- sometimes with the bass between the triplets, and sometimes closer to the first note of the triplet. I do enjoy the very even triplet pulse. (I also play four-beat clusters using a five-note p-a-i-m-i tremolo -- again, with the bass slipped between the last and first tremolo notes, or close to the first note, giving a quad pulse to a five-note tremolo.) However, on reflection, I now think I may have been wandering down a strange detour that does not match normal practice. I had thought this was a common technique, and had thought I had read several virtuosi endorsing its use, but at the moment I can't seem to find anybody else doing it besides myself :). Are you aware of such a tradition, and do you have any comment about its use, particularly on the Recuerdos (or, as Romero labels it, "Improvisación: ¡A Granada! Cantiga Árabe"). I would also be interested in your comments about the tremolo feel described by Pepe Romero, where the bass functions rhythmically as the fourth note in each group, rather than as the first (a-m-i-p rather than p-a-m-i). Thanks again for a good video.
@trevor-hanson-guitarist
@trevor-hanson-guitarist 2 года назад
Aha, I found an example of the Recuerdos played with triplet tremolo. Narcisco Yepes. I could not find the Bream recording I remember but the Yepes is clearly a triplet pulse. So at least I am not completely out of my mind. I now alternate playing it both ways. I love the evenness of the triplets, especially at higher speed, but they are obviously both effective.
