Lubing the chain of a standard upwrong bike is pretty easy. Everything is within reach. When you try to do this for a trike, it gets a lot tougher. Here are some easy tricks to make the process go smoothly.

I’ve always cleaned the cranks, chain and cassette before lubing. I normally don’t lube the cassette, just the chain and then step through the spinning cassette before wiping off the excess oil. I like your fire poker tip. Very clever idea!

Eric.. I mounter a handlebar to the back of the rack.. This does two things: 1) lets me steer the trike by pushing down on one side or the other. 2) Allows me a place to lift and set the bike on something higher to lift the back off the ground. I only lube the chain. I don't lube the cassette or the chainring. I set the tip of the bottle on the chain and spin the cranks while dropping lube on the chain. Then i pedal for a while to work it in. Let it sit for a while then with a clean rag, i wipe off the chain while running it thru the clean towel. My chains go twice as far.. And that saves money in the long run...

One other trick ... I start with Simple Green as a degreaser first, removes the grime quickly. Then relube, reoil ... extremely clean chain and the simple green cleans up my hands nicely too.

I'm gonna have to try that next time. I bet the towel gets filthy, but in a lot less time. After about five minutes of running the chain through mine without a degreaser, I was still getting dark marks. :)

A small traffic cone also works and has the benefit of not scratching your paint. And how did you get two chainrings on your Bafang?

Bro, that's an amazing idea with the traffic cone. The chainrings, just kind of fit. But this is a Tongshen TSDZ2 so it's probably different. I don't recall doing anything special for that. That being said, I now just use the singular ring. I was never using the smaller one so I just got rid of it and the shifter.

@@TheGiantTriker I can't claim the traffic cone idea. Got if from www.youtube.com/@TravelsByTrike

what kind of peddles are you using, they seemed larger than the standard peddles?

I think I'm still using the stock pedals. Nothing special there. :)
