P.S. About 3 years ago (I am 73 now) I decided to learn watercolor after a lifetime of being crafty but NOT win a drawing/painting kind of way. I always said that I can’t draw a stick figure AND I have a tremor. What I learned is that we CAN learn anything that we really put our mind to. Good on you for tackling this new challenge!! Love it!

That’s amazing and such an inspiration for me! I say the same thing about my drawing skills and have always wanted to learn watercolor. It’s on my list and now you have me tempted to tackle one more new thing 🥰

FANTASTIC!!! Your way of randomly placing colors onto the pages was a light-bulb moment for me. I've watched quite a few mixed media tutorial videos, although enjoyable and I learned a lot, I've never felt comfortable actually trying the techniques. This video took me from blank pages to getting something on the pages. Maybe that's because you said a child can do it! lol I have bought so much "stuff" to work with and have only used my gelli plate, which I love. You have inspired me to JUST DO IT!!!! Thank you so very much! 5 STARS!!!

Thank you!!! This is exactly the type of comment that makes me most happy...my greatest success is if I've inspired someone. I hope you have so much fun playing now. This was PT 2 of a series and in one of the later videos I show some of the additional steps I took to add layers so I hope you do try this technique and just keep adding layers until you love your design. ❤️

This is definitely going to be an heirloom book! I too am working on a long term book for my as yet not even conceived grandchildren (hope I have some!) where I am painting watercolors art specially for this book and combining them with family memorabilia as well as quotes and sayings that I have been collecting for quite a while. You have given me the idea to add sewing because I have some unfinished embroidery projects too that might work! Thank you! So many ideas! The only concern that I didn’t hear mentioned is that an art color wheel might be good for newbies to color combinations because the color opposites on the color wheel can make mud and they can avoid that if they want. However, I will say that some muted colors of course look nice with brighter colors too. Sorry about making 3 comments, you don’t need to answer!!💕

Thank you Donna. You are correct...I should have mentioned using a color wheel...don't laugh but it's because I'm not a trained artist and just learning all this myself. I will try to remember to mention it in future videos. 🥰

I'm really happy to have discovered your channel. I started working on some things that you talked about. I was looking for to the altered book but I'm not very good at the whole stacked envelope thing so maybe it will be a good learning experience. Thank you!

Thank you! I'm glad you're enjoying it. I hear you....I've made the stacked envelope style journal several times now putting each one together a little different than the last and now have another idea that might be even easier...there's definitely more than one way to build a box so I'm just constantly experimenting.❤️

Lol no you're not the only one who saves baby wipes. I've seen some beautiful stacked flowers with them. I just love your embroidery. When I did some on book page, I pre-punched my holes. Do you? Or how do you get the needle through without bending the paper? You are so creative! The amount of ideas you come up with just amazes me!
@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 3 года назад
Thank you so much! I've done it both ways including on the same piece I'm working on. I find punching holes first on the paper for some parts much easier. It also depends on the paper. Once I've been working for awhile on the old book pages they start to feel soft like fabric and I'm always working with two layers so they're more durable. I might do a tutorial at some point on hand stitching...when I feel like I have enough content. Thanks for the comment. Because I don't watch many videos I never really know if my ideas are original or not...truth is I'm just sharing what I'm working on and you all are so nice I feel like I'm just talking to friends. Just finished packaging your order...necklace is on the way!

@@heartandsoulfuldesign I'm really excited about receiving it! 😊 And I feel like I'm listening to a friend when I watch your videos. I get stirred up and my creativity starts bubbling up lol. Have you heard of the #100dayproject? You choose something, whatever you want to improve on, and do it for 100 days. There are no rules and we're accountable only to ourselves. It starts Jan 31, and I'm going to do it for the first time. I think it sounds like fun. If you're interested, you can Google #100dayproject. It's also on Facebook. Oh, I would DEFINITELY be interested in a video about embroidery. That would be awesome! 😊

Thank you! I've heard it mentioned but didn't really know anything about it. My problem is that if you have to do 100 consecutive days I don't know that I can commit to that lol. I'll add the video idea to my mental list.

@@heartandsoulfuldesign It's not a legalistic thing. You can skip days or quit early. You make your own rules. It's kinda fun to pursue a goal with others who are pursuing their goal. Rachel from Roxy Creations did it last year and she has a playlist of all the things she did. I think she missed some days. But if you're curious, it's something to look at. 😊

I love all the colors! You know, you could take all the slow stitched pieces and some of the whole pages, scan them onto your computer and save as jpeg files, then sell them as digital downloads! Have you tried the Scotch glue sticks? I like them better than Elmers. And I've had no success at all with dollar store brands. On Created by Catherine, she uses her old glue stick and attaches the replacement Velcro pads to use as ink stamps. Also, she does lots of stitching, both slow stitching and machine stitching on journal pages. Anne Brooke Textile Artist has amazing slow stitching on her RU-vid channel, too. This was an inspiring video, thanks!

@heartandsoulfuldesign 3 года назад
Thanks Nola! I recently did a digital download pattern in my Etsy shop but didn't know what I needed to do as far as quality to do digital downloads to print. I have actually done some master boards that would be good for that. I guess I just need to look into it more. I just bought some Scholastic brand glue sticks because I happen to be at an office supply store. I've been using Elmers because that's what I had. I'll have to try Scotch as well. That's a great idea to reuse the old sticks! I'll have to check out their channels. Thanks for the tips!

So you don’t put gesso on it before the paint?
@heartandsoulfuldesign
@heartandsoulfuldesign 3 года назад
Correct. I did not use gesso first. I decided to mass make the first few steps of a mix media style paper leaving the text as a background. From here I think I will start working on each paper individually at this point so they will each be more unique. I might use a little watered down gesso at some point to push things further into the background...we'll see...I don't really have much of a plan...just winging it here so I will do another video with some of the techniques I'll be adding as I figure things out.
