Thanks Jason. Little old me doesn't have any computer to send to be crushed, but good to see there are good number of folks that do. Cool. If I was to get into mining, I would come to MBMM LLC FIRST!

Don't hhd have strong magnets inside? I would asume that creates a bit of an inconvinience in the chamber.

I assume they will stick to the steel frame/sheet of the hammer mill in inconvenient places long before they get to the mag separator

I process lots of Hard Drives, but I never crush them up. The more you mess up the material, the more difficult it becomes to separate out and recover the values. I dismantle them instead. Afterwards, 100% of the tin and lead from the solder is recovered by a metallurgical process. All individual electronic components are then processed (in separate batches) for full recovery of all values. Finally, the bare boards are processed for recovery of Bromine and the epoxy content, leaving nothing but glass fibers behind which is recycled as waste glass. Mixing up the material causes nothing but troubles. Remember: You can only extract one element (read: Metal) at the time. Keeping the individual parts of Hard Drives whole during the entire recovery process makes everything much easier, and way faster!

With enough labor, capital cost, and unit operations, you can achieve almost anything. Is your process economical and scalable?
@zero-waste
@zero-waste 2 месяца назад
@@nucleochemist. I'm a full time scrapper and metal refiner. In my garden shed I make on average US$ 250,000/year. I work hard for 10 month and then it's holiday time. 2 months in a tropical country, relaxing in my private house, as well as spending a lot of time far out on the Atlantic Ocean while enjoying Big Game sportfishing from my own boat. All my many different processes are profitable, and all are scalable/suitable for use in an industrial plant. In fact, many of the processes I use are actually "down scaled" from how large commercial recycling companies are operating.

@@zero-wastesir i alreafy asked you some moths back on another video how you process everything srep by step. But i havent heard from you. You cant expect people to learn how to make it work like you do without sharing any knowledge to us. So either share or keep process to yourself but dont be suprised when you see peopler do what's above!

@@zero-waste i dont know which video but you talked about recocery of tin and types of solders, how long you submerge them before tin dissolves, and wires and components fall out, so no i dont remember which video i replied to. I noticed that you explained parts of your process (part 1, part2) i read those So you mainly do plastics and pyrolysis of pcbs Look i understand you dont have time But i am seriously interested in how exactly you do this step by step If you arent comfortable sahring it here on youtube, we can type on discord or email... Depends on you Sieving components is very smart, but how do you process each category? Do you get acid on cheap (nitric)? (i understand you get bromine and chlorine from fire retardants and pvc - - - > hcl + bromine for gold recovery) Do you smelt each category of sieved components? I dont know your process, guys at gold refining forum have many processes and all its about is precious metals, so i dont know your process for recovering all that is economically profitable, thats why i have so many questions. They dont do things in bulk like you do, so thats why i wanna learn from you I dont wanna spend my time picking each component, testing it. So your method must be really great, so please answer me if you have time, thank you.

I could have saved you time with precious metals from hard drives. Gold on pins and arms. Platinum on glass. Aluminum is the base for deak top drives. But, you have to take them apart. That is the time consuming part.

I know old aviation equipment has lots of gold components! Something to think about! Jason, I know you do a lot of mining and such with Dan Hurd on some of his claims. Question, ( Fraser River ) Do you think some of the finer pieces of gold are coming from the moss that has dried up and have been washed by rain and even the river ? I was curious due to knowing that the moss works as a natural gold mat. It seems like it would make sense!

There just isn’t much aviation equipment from a relative point of view. Everyone has a computer, not many have an airplane.

I know that it's nearly impossible to get people to stop doing things that they don't think or feel or care is wrong, which has caused the horrible things so many people do, to continue every day and generationally, I'll still chance opposing this process & the decision to do so. I think it's irresponsible to deal with old product like this & should be taken apart instead - no matter the time & cost.

Seems like a slap-assed way of going about it, especially due to the neodymium magnets inside. Got a hard time believing this is more efficient in the long run than removing certain parts, specifically the control board and magnetic head, before shred. But if the main money is in the destruction service itself, guess it's a wash.

I see such a waste. Open them up and recycle the unmixed high grade pure aluminum, fantastic magnets and high speed motors that can be reused for many different things. I 3d printed a simple double bracket that will hold two motors and lots of options for free blades based on design. Once you expose those plates to air dust and hand oils you would be spending a ton of money to try and get any data. Once you have the metal separated do you magic on the circuit boards.
