Yeah, so often it's things like offices/universities/institutions that replace all of their hardware every few years and throw away the old stuff whether it's good or not. My friend is in the Canadian Armed Forces, and she says her office gets new chairs and even staplers and hole punches every couple years just to spend the budget so it doesn't get cut for the next year.

Im currently using a keyboard I picked up scrapping :)

I kill my keyboards pretty regularly. I also write about 2 million words a year.

@@ImranZakhaev9 nice! I have a really cool old-style keyboard (clicky chunky keys with feedback I had in my youth) I found with the cable cut off. I've done some preliminary research, and I should be able to connect a USB cable to it. huzzah! Pretty sure it was PS2 but its just a wiring issue - no circuit required.

At one time there was a company in Atlanta that picked up complete electronics at our scrap yard here in bham. They would only come when they had a full semi load.. same with plastics and glass. But the plastic and glass had to be shredded and crushed. But we have a saying here, when you die you will have to go through Atlanta before you get to heaven or hell. Lol On a side note, don't know if you know of not, Marty of the channel that led me to yours, his wife has tested positive for the virus. She's very sick, his oldest daughter is showing symptoms as is he. If you get a chance pull up his last vid. Thanks brother

@@playandgrowtv9846 Most of that will go to the landfill sadly. At least 50% of what people put in the bins here doesn't get recycled. Like, the hard plastics that are used for computer cases, keyboards, etc. goes right to the dump. Because we don't have a recycling plant for that type of plastic close enough to the city/town. However, if you recycle the full component at an ewaste recycling place, it'll get done properly. That is the purpose of the fee you get charged when you buy new electronics/computers/other items. It pays for that type of thing. I hope I explained that properly. I am pretty tired right now.

@@markjohnson7887 Could it really be 50%?? I worked in a recycling facility in Nova Scotia and the end of the recycling conveyor belt (that goes to landfill) was nearly empty, only things like small broken glass dirty/contaminated things, and things that just didn't belong (Tim's cups, straws, ceramic, bottle caps, etc.) Actually went to the landfill. If people recycled perfectly, then we would recycle nearly 100%.

@@ImranZakhaev9 In Ontario, yes. It really is that high. Where I live, no hard plastics of ANY kind, no plastic bags, etc., etc.. It's pretty sad really. Even in the city of Ottawa the list of plastics that can't be recycled is quite long. I assume in Toronto you would have better luck though.

Check the prices on Ebay for the SOLD keyboards. I had a really old one and the best I could get was $42 on an action, the rest of them I had to scrap after waiting for a year for somebody to make me an offer.

rinoz47 while I agree that it will be recovered...I would personally spend the 2 minutes to pull the mylar and small board. Granted I have a small hammer mill to snag up the boards

Lol. When we get the technology, we will be digging up landfills for their scrap metals and rare earth elements and burning the dry organics for energy.

@@genli5603 There's already a move to just drying and burning 'non-recyclable' waste for energy, and then running metal recovery on the ashes.

next step is removing the non ferrous, still a bit to go to complete the machine.

Yes all metals will be removed. Plastics would likely be melted down and turned into filament/recycled plastic for use

I'm just putting it out there , IF you want to start a good business to save the earth and recycle 2 types of plastic to make plastic lumber. First off you will need a big building lot's of room .you will need a warehouse for the recycle plastic. A area for grinding up the plastic to put into( gaylords witch are 2,000 pound box's ) grinders has to be able to grind up to 1/8 inch pellet size material. The material has to be separate from each other. You will need a industrial mixer to combine the 3 material . You will need a screw press for the melting of the material, a manifold system with airlock pressure switches then you'll need your dyes or molds with individual pressure switches,your dyes will have their own cooling tanks systems, you will need a cooling system chiller to handle antifreeze. Each dye should handle 800,to 2,500 psi. (Per square inch ) your electric grid should be 3 phase and you will need a cooling system for that .the molds should be at least 13 feet long to get 12 foot boards. You will need a warehouse for storing the lumber, a area for cooling down for lumber from that day's run 8hr shifts . You will need a industrial radial arm saw to process the lumber for shipping . A bander for securing the lumber for shipping .this lumber is heavy it will last over a 100 year's will not rot and can be made in different colors . Good for decks,park benches, picnic tables, fences, steps, mailbox post. Stadium benches, designer boxes for plant's. If you want to start a great business like this ? I can give you a quote price.

Putting them in systematic order and automatic reparing them.... Naaah I think it cruch the boards to prepare for melting and cutting transport cost to the melting plant, and then it gets send to final stage for refining. Proberly cyanid electrolyse method on industrial scale. You know you can EASY BUILD an elektrolyse setup yourself... a hobby scrapper can find 90% parts needed. Car battery, jumper cables, acid (from car batterys, slowly heat if needed to make it more concentrated). Thick heat resistent glassware from girlfriend kitchen😁. Stainless steal plate, lead plate/ or copper. The thing I cant find scrapping is the salts? "SMB" to make the gold drop outta acid solution. BUT I bet if you write the youtuber Coby'slab he will tell how you can make sodium metabisulfite "SMB". To make the gold bullion you need aqua regina (nitric acid from car battery and normal hydrochloric acid). You can run the electrolyse on VERY LOW volt and mili amp. I belive its 20mili amp pr cm2 anode. So a small setup is very safe. Give up very little acid fumes and low current. I must say the youtuber "STREETIPS" is the professional (old navy scientis type or tech guy). "Im just a RU-vid-comment clown🤡 so DO CHECK OUT STREETIPS " for professional advice.

Mark Thomas using an eddy current separator that uses coils like a solenoid to induce a current and therefore a magnetic field in nonferrous metals which creates a force pushing the material out of the stream. My physics professor used a large solenoid to launch aluminum rings across the room.

He is lucky that he is not relying on street scrapping for the source of his e-waste. He has contracts with schools and companies that pay him to take away their old electronics.
