Red Dead Online is Finally Dead 

Rockstar killed the game by not giving discounts on beans anymore

I’m gonna save you 10 minutes. Red dead online is still running, people just aren’t playing as much because there’s no new content. Nothing has changed.

The worst part is that the part of me that thinks this game is saveable wont ever go away. Such a tragedy. I was such a fan for so long.. and probably always will remain one.

i will never forgive rockstar for how shitty they treated us and this game. i cannot fathom why they would abandon their best title to DATE in favor for a 10 year old game. what’s more frustrating, is how they didn’t even give RDO the time it needed to grow just like GTAO did. rockstar isn’t the same company they used to be and it’s sad. they created an absolute MASTERPIECE to just abandon it like it’s nothing. fuck rockstar.

I still play RDO daily. It has become my relaxing, wind down from a long day game. Usually, I just stick to myself and complete the daily challenges. It's shame it has been abandoned considering how loyal their fanbase is and all that unused potential.

Greatest waste of potential in video game history as far as I’m concerned.

I have turned RDO into my “relaxing” game, which is hilarious considering how it used to be. I now use the game to enjoy the scenery, hunt, fish, and take my horse on trails off the beaten path.

Players on console usually fill up an entire server but you'll typically never find the players unless you're in Valentine or Saint Denis, and sometimes in Black Water, thats at least for me

If they'd actually put stuff into it like properties, etc. Then people would want to play more. They milk GTA V because of cars, missiles, etc. It's disgusting.

Wild to see a studio abandon their critically acclaimed game that everyone agrees is a masterpiece just to go back to making content for the inferior game they released half a decade earlier. Only studio to ever do that and they did it to the detriment of the players.

So sad, this game had so much potential. Bank/train robberies, gang hideout robberies, ranching (owning your own ranch raising kettle selling by large numbers) breeding horses with increasing stats depending on breed mixes or half/pureblood status. Just a few ideas I spammed at Rockstar over several years... 😢

It’s really sad-almost everyone I used to play with has stopped playing. I still enjoy riding around, role-playing, and helping out new players, or sometimes I switch to one of my other characters. But the reality is, nothing new will ever be added to the game. Over time, more and more players will leave, and we’ll have to say goodbye to what could’ve been something truly great. I’m rank 985 on my main character, so my personal goal is to hit rank 1000, but it would’ve been so much better if there were new content to enjoy. As Jessica LeClerk said, 'We deserved so much better, but this is what we got. This is what we all got.'

Rockstar is a HORRIBLE game company, they ignore their fans, they simply don't care. I will never buy another rockstar game again, because Rockstar doesn't deserve my patronage, nor do they deserve anyones.

Rockstar is honestly the type of greedy company that would shut down red dead online out of nowhere and not even have the balls to refund anyone considering you have to buy online separately from the offline single players

You can call me dramatic but it's honestly heartbreaking. I've had some of my favorite gaming memories in RDO and always saw potential and hope in it. People were whining about "Where is housing?? Heists?? NEW ISLAND??" just a few months in, but this game just deserved ANYTHING at all. If they gave us 2-3 missions and actual new items to acquire I'd be happy for another few months.

I don't know why they just don't bring back Outlaw pass 1 2 3 4 solving a system for the new players

I love RDO but I stopped playing about 7 months ago because there's nothing I want to buy, and all my jobs are maxed. The biggest reason I left is because I was tired of constantly being harrassed, and blown into the air constantly exploding. or people coming up blowing up my horse with all my pelts on it.

I played RDO everyday for years until around June 2024 when it became a dead world- no animals, no NPCs. I use steam deck. I'm still playing RDR2.

RD2O died for the Three players In my Household back in July, 2024. We constantly had the Empty World bug… and we didn’t find a solution… Such is life.

One of the rarest Online experiences where you could actually hop on with your friends & have fun just roaming around. If it had the support it needed & by that I mean if it actually got the proper content like Bank Robberies, Train Robberies & Heists in General (Real ones, not the dung they packaged into Blood Money) this game would have a looooooooong and happy life. Just thinking of the amount of content that could have been added makes me honestly want to shed a tear... Properties, Ranches, Gunsmith Businesses, a Mexico Expansion filled with even more content... It's honestly sad to see what it came to... But, GTA VI Is a priority, so it's no surprise this ended up happening & I can't complain on that end really as I do look forward to GTA VI, but in the end, this will forever be the saddest story in online gaming history... Cheers to everyone that made great memories playing RDO, maybe when RDRIII drops things will be different? (If Herr Strauss is dead by then, myb) :)

Id Dutch was there, he would have told Rockstar: Have some goddamn faith, the game needs 1 big score. And it’s true, if Rockstar would focus on train robberies, heists etc the game would most likely rise above a lot of games with returning players.

You got it spot on - I only started in May this year. After years of playing solo, I convinced a mate to buy it, but every single time we spawned, within 5 minutes we had grievers or modders ruining it. Eventually we found out how to do private lobby and can enjoy it, but its pretty boring with no other players.

I still really like playing RDO and I find many things still to do and have fun.

I played every day for a few years but got tired with how much it was neglected and moved on

I just stopped playing as soon as I fired 6 shots and hit every single one in the opposing player's head without him going down from a longer distance using the bolt action rifle.

I play it since 3 years now, almost 4. Made some Friends, created a huge Story with all my Characters I have in the Game. It will be always my Comfort Game, until the very End.

I'm so happy I literally just began playing this game last month period. I'm only 16% complete in story mode and only 3 days ago began playing online( put it off thinking it was tyne same toxic gta lobbies) I'm pleased to say that I thought the game couldn't get more imersive and fun than story mode but now online is the most fun I've had playing any games since assassin's creed valhalla, and hogwarts legacy!!!

Rockstar could easily save the game if they added a flying horse that launches dynamite arrows. This would be 2 gold bars, and can save the game, I swear!

Im subscribed and you literally taught me to play red dead 5 months ago and i haven't stop playing since i started. Im at 99.1 percent with the platinum trophy and i love online and this game period

Great video, and as a console player whose got close to 700 hrs (not a lot, but I’m level like 166 or something so I’ve unlocked everything whatever) most of the servers are never full anymore. Maybe they’ve got 10ish people, but I can’t have the same fun as having a all out brawl in a city, or just hanging with some random people because the only people in the lobby are doing there own thing.

Something i noticed after may update is that when i alt tabbed the keyboard response was so slow that i could type this whole text and take a coffee and it would not be finished yet, they fixed it recently but i think this could be one of the reasons that steam players dropped since we use websites for madam nazar collections It was unfeasible to wait that Long for 0.3 letters to be typed per second

I'll continue to play as long as I can. It's such a beautiful game and, as you said, so relaxing. Some new content would be great but I don't really care that much. As long as the game is playable, I'll be there. What are the chances they'll do away with the severs and the game will no longer be playable?

I remember those "Funerals" people gave. At first it was fine, but almost a month on the SubReddit it was flooded with posts of players holding them and it lost it charm very quickly.

This is the saddest thing. Rdo is really special. I’ll never understand why it was left to rot. I counted down the day until it’s release and i have been playing since day 1. I purchased gold back then to buy the roles, as i wanted to support the game and show that it was worth it for them. I feel forgotten

Hello Cat. Learned a lot from you when I started playing RDO in 2020. Had some fun until Rockstar stopped caring about this game and also until it got absolutely flooded by cheaters. Stopped at around 2022 and glad that I did. It had no future anymore.

I played online the other week and was amazed I finally got a lobby alone which is kind of what I always wanted but not how I wanted it

GTAOnline killed RDOnline like it killed GTAV and RDR2 expansions. RIP Undead Nightmare and RDR1 remake. :(

I played RDO for about one month recently. After I unlocked all the useful equipment, there wasn't any reason to play anymore, it became more like a job than a game. And a good portion of that play time was spent running around a rock at Lake Isabella lol

I played RDO once about a year ago, I was a bit late to get the game (big regret, this game is just awesome). I was in the game for maybe a half hour, did the tutorial stuff, and ventured into the world, and was immediately was harassed by a group of assholes. They clearly had been playing for a while, had good guns and horses, and I'm a newbie, and they just kept harassing and being dicks to the point I left and never went back. RDO is kept alive by the fans, and it was ruined by those same fans

bro I played with my girl with this so much. the showdown series sweats the freeroam duels and wars we waged. Its a shame. the single player is peak. and online was so great. Im sad now.

Rrd2 Online was some of the most fun me and my friends have had, its sad its gone, we would go to the water fall and just fight and fall to our deaths but despite the game being gone, we still have the memories! RIP RDR2

Why didn’t they just add more outlaw mechanics is beyond me

Some part of me don’t even wanna buy GTA 6 not because of RDO but because of how they treated RDR2 all these years

I literally played RDO yesterday. It's not dead. People still play it. I ran into at least 20 players in total yesterday. Rockstar might not update it anymore, but it's still playable.

It’s so sad. I will always remember the fun times I had playing RDO and all the people I’ve met.

My character has been at level 10 for years. Since release. Just now really started playing a lot more. And I’m having a lot of fun. Wish I did sooner. but I’ve noticed lobbies seem pretty full.

They updated something in the past month. Not sure what or why, but all of my horses suddenly act like they are drunk now. Also, we need to count the people using RedM since it has far more content than RDO. RedM always has players online. Over 7,200 on RedM right now and the high over the past 24hrs it was over 8,100.

RockStar didn't wanted to invest in RDR2 anymore, that's why short Guarma, no coming back, no México, no Undead Nightmare 2 and very limited online gameplay.

Rockstar killed RDO before they even gave it a chance to shine. They were sitting on a goldmine but decided to keep dumping every cent they made into GTA.

For me, RDO is an escape. There isn’t anything for me to unlock anymore, since I’m level 100. I don’t really ever interact with other players, and when I do, it’s in passing when some of them start shooting at me so I am forced to defend myself. But other than that, I hunt animals and craft garbage that I sell for money. When it comes to roles, the collector is fun because it forces you to explore parts of the map that you would never normally visit. How does this help you? Well you make good money and if you’re ever under attack anywhere on the map, you’ll know of secret spots or maybe a spot that gives you all the advantages. It can be pretty fun to troll players who think you’re cheating when in reality you’re in a small cave underneath them

It just completely BOGGLES MY MIND how they could abandon such an intricate game. This isnt some tiny pet project - this is a huge and well-developed experience. How could they just leave it? It has INCREDIBLE potential! They should sell it off or let another company handle it's maintenance!

Rockstar probably let Red Dead Online die off because they knew they couldn't add flying motorcycles that shoot homing rockets or futuristic laser weapons in the online mode.

Over 4K hours and still alive and kicking for me. Tons of stuff to do other than missions and telegrams.

I actually just started this week because I’m so burned out on the story. I’ve played thousands of hours. And I’ve been amazed at how fun it is and how much bigger they made the the same world I’ve been playing in. Being able to choose the roles and be what you wanna be has been amazing so far. But it’s the fact that I know exactly how much content I have left to play that really sucks. So I’m taking it as slow as I can.

Well I played very hard core in 2023 and 2024 for 5 months totally .In the mean time I left 3 times because of the CHEATERS. It was end of the story for me.

This is so sad. I absolutely loved RDO. There's never been anything like it, it's such a gorgeous game in a genre that has receive very little attention. It's truly a work of art. But my friends and I stopped playing because of Rockstar's total neglect and unwillingness to crack down on hackers/modders/cheaters. Playing RDO is a miserable experience when every session is interrupted by some indestructible griefer suddenly ruining your game. It breaks my heart, it really does.

I bet Rockstar won't make a RDR3 because they can't monetize the online like in GTA games. I think they'll milk GTA6 for years and when they can't milk anymore then only they'll make GTA7.

I think at end of 2023 when massive false ban happend many players did not return even if they got unban later on.

Beyond this I keep getting the bug where there are no npcs or animals anywhere. Ive tried different servers and stuff too. I was glad that I did find the bug tho cuz I was about to start playing rdo with someone.

I really did enjoy Red Dead Online, but at some point I got enough money to upgrade everything and then there was nothing else to do.

My friends and I lament the fact RockstarGames did RDO so dirty like this. I started playing Day 1 and still play in bursts. Lobbies on Xbox have definitely been less populated as of late sadly. I’m still trying to apprehend 100 live players bounties for belt buckle and it’s a challenge to find bounties now.

Last time i played i couldn't get a horse or spawn a camp. I'll come back for the snow. Hopefully they have some decent servers up for that time.

I stopped playing Online in 2021 because there was nothing left to do. Got every weapon fully upgraded, all clothing, all best horses, $50k in my pocket, 1000 gold bars in my bag and a Platinum trophy.

I gave up hope when they didn’t take advantage of any Halloweens to have an Undead Nightmare 2 event. The despair really set in when they ported RD1 to PS5 rather than re-creating RDR1 with RDR2 directly. Would have been the best selling DLC in Rockstar history.

All the cheaters on PC swore me off PC entirely. Was an honestly horrible experience 9/10 times with people spawning campfires on me that followed me around and reappeared the moment I spawned. Immediately after just getting into a server no less. Console is mad chill.

They should at least bring back the old outlaw passes. I had a few but I lost most because I made a new character, and I know a lot of people weren’t playing when those were out.

In 2021 Rockstar blocked the entire Cox internet ip block due to a hacker. 60% of their players use ISP that use Cox Business and it took them eight months to fix it. That's why no one plays it anymore because they resorted to using Goldberg emulator to bypass Rockstar launcher and Steam and found it to be a welcome mod and just stick with it.

Rockstar knows They can revive RDO even 10yrs later with one update. That's why their main focus is GTA6 and RDO Updates atm.

First time playing (the story mode) this year and just started online last month. Having fun so far on online, though not crazy about getting killed multiple times by other players for no reason while fishing.

Man I remember when I first played red dead online the day it released, I remember grinding deathmatches with the varmint rifle before people started using all the overpowered card combos. The community was super cool and helpful, the game was really fun except how hard money was to get. It is such a shame what they did to RDRO, it had AMAZING potential.

They tried to attract attention with an event with 3x payment in gold and canned beans in freeroam missions but it didn't work out very well.

The end of RDR2 online started in early 2019 with downdates that nerfed weapons, ruined animal spawning, gang camps and other stuff to not spawn correctly and often not at all, and then completly broke player camps that took R☆ a full year to fix. Overall by 2020, maybe early 2021 it was becoming obvious to me that R☆ never really wanted RDR2 online and then after release never really cared if it worked well. GTA online is where the money is so that online got their 'A' team while RDR2 online got a dirt cheap 'special ed.' team.

Consoles are still doing pretty well. Most of the time you'll spawn into lobby with around 20-25 ppl. Idk the player count exactly but I do know it's far higher than steam considering I have about 112 ppl in my friends list alone who hop on weekly or monthly. Although I will say a large majority of randoms I see haven't reached past lvl 70. Most say they've just got the game and are excited to start playing. Sucks bc they're usually pretty heartbroken when I tell them 'this is it, this is everything there is to do don't expect anything new or different"
