Personally I think Hosea found his own redemption in helping Abigail escape the Pinkertons. There’s a lot of parallels in both Arthur and Hosea’s stories. In game they can both be found having conversations about their lives as outlaws, how Abigail sees Hosea as a father figure, and how Hosea wants Abigail to take Jack and leave the life. Abigail also avenges Hosea by killing Milton, similar to how John kills Micah. Hosea is also seen having coughing fits, and talks about he wants to make sure the people in his life are safe before he dies.
He might gave been a bad man but he has good morals, that's what made us love some many members of the van der line gang, it was Dutch and Micah who caused most of the deaths of the members and the innocents to get killed. Which gave them their bad name and ultimately led to the downfall of the gang.
The Uncle dying during production level really got me. Brings a whole new level of respect to his character I never had before. Now I can look at him other than a drunk who’s terminally ill with Lumbago.
I like to think that Uncle is the Harlow of the RDR universe and that his true back story is very different from the story presented in Revolver. I like to think that he was most likely a sometime bounty hunter that bushwhacked a railroad executive over the murder of his parents and who made himself disappear when his legend grew out of his control. His lumbago is most likely a result of a degenerative spinal condition that developed as a result of having spent too much time in the saddle in his younger years. This was not uncommon during the late 19th century and it fits with the idea that Harlow spent a lot of time as an itinerant cow puncher and saddle tramp during many years on the run. I don't believe that he is altogether faking it, but I do believe that he deliberately cultivates the gang's underestimation of him. The thing about Uncle that most interests me is the length he goes to in order to hide his true identity. He doesn't even have a proper name. None of the other characters go to so much trouble to conceal who they are. I think that Uncle does that because were he to reveal his true name, it would be recognized instantly.
8:23 before you start the mission “a short walk in a pretty town” you can hear micah saying that bill looks good and he gets shy 😂 you can see how much detail they put in this game its amazing.
Who started this calling every video the iceberg shit. Everybody was making 100 facts about then suddenly it's called the iceberg like it's something new. it's a super annoying trend
It's sad that Guarma got nerfed so hard. R* did an amazing job capturing the beautiful view and at the same time keeping that scary and alien feeling. I hoped to see more of it or at least revisit the area.
@@MatthewSanthos In the circumstance we find it, I agree--though I assume it's meant to be that way. Were Guarma a manifestation of Dutch's "Tahiti," however, it would move the plot perfectly according to *plan*.
Not sure if it’s patched now but back in the beta days of RDO there was a glitch/bug where if you drowned in a certain spot in the river it would spawn you on the Mexican side of the border. I traveled far enough out of bounds that the map randomly transitioned into Guarma and I was allowed to fully explore it. Brought back some exotic animal meat with me lol
@@Ludovicus1769 Dutch said of that, "We all had her, but you married her." I think that Jack is John's son too, but it did once occur to me to consider the remote possibility that Uncle is Red Harlow and that Jack is Red Harlow's child. Up until the last minutes of Uncle's life, there is an unfortunate tendency for people to underestimate that old man. I have to wonder how much of that was deliberately cultivated by Uncle himself.
Jack when grown up is a spitting image of John. In the RDR1 epilogue there's a few instances where Jack is instantly recognized as John's kid or John himself.
5:14 I love the way John says "Just seems familiar" because John is familiar with death having killed many in his life as an outlaw from a very young age.
@@sdp640 yes that's right, so do you think rdr3 will be a prequel again? Im thinking of this because john said that for a reason, he might have seen strange man in the past. Only thing is we don't know yet.
the New Bordeaux thing is interesting because it's the name of the New Orleans equivalent city in Mafia III; the Mafia series is owned by 2K Games, the sister publisher of Rockstar Games. Mafia 3 was released in October 2016 so I'm guessing development overlapped between the two games and someone made a phone call to the other asking them to change the names.
That’s exactly what happened actually. Rockstar had originally named Saint Denis, New Bordeaux, but decided to change it due to the fear of copyright. Rockstar however, wasn’t actually told by 2K to take it down
@@The_Berserker28 wouldve been cool actually if they were both connected and mafia 3 in early development was actually supposed to be set in 1890s new orleans until it was changed to the 60s
Wow, dude, this feels so surreal to me. I’ve watched your videos for years, and to see one based on something I’ve made is just insane to me. Thank you so much for covering this iceberg, it was well and truly worth the wait
Another thing to add with the "Bill is gay!" thing is the optional camp mission where you retrieve hair pomade for Bill. Arthur teases Bill about it before and after he gets him the pomade and Bill is very bashful. Bill definitely wants to impress someone. Maybe it's Kieran? Who knows, but it's another fun clue to look into.
I think Rockstar tried to twist his character to fit the now prominent "woke" culture that's being pushed, it's said in rdr1 that he and his gang have raped women in number only the lord may know, it also explains the censoring in the recent GTA Trilogy, it is sad that game devs will ruin their already written characters to fit certain "cultures" For example see this video where they're clearly pushing the narrative that he's gay ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3EzpKJ41uLg.html I don't care if a video game character is gay, but the problem is that he wasn't written as so in rdr1 why ruin his characteristics now? And no its nor about different time of release because rdr1 heavily implied that the Mexican general had something with his male servant.
No the texture was just unable to load properly due to the order in which they are intended to appear Its just a missing texture or a falsely loaded one
I don’t know if anyone else has noticed but the voice for uncle’s last name is a lake up in the northern part of map, it’s the exact lake where you can do all of hamish Sinclair’s stranger missions and where you meet him. Just a really nice tribute to the man who will forever be cherished by the community
apparently the voice actor for Uncle in the first game vanished off the face of the earth. Or he just prefers a quiet life. Edit: nvm, he mentions this in the video later lol
@@petrikor The original voice casting for Uncle was an actor named John O'Creagh. He died in 2016 from a blood clot during production and was replaced by James McBride. O'Creagh's Run was named as a tribute to him.
The Saint Denis ghost appeared during the mission where you’re looking for grave diggers, so I ran after her and kept searching for a solid five minutes before giving up
Been playing this game for years and haven't had her show up visibly. Have heard her a few times though. Same with the ghost train. I never seem to get there at the right time lol
@@nnnnmhughuuhhjiijj9457 me too, dressed in black, panicking and running away right when we spotted her. i legit chased her but she disappeared after, my oh my how i thought she was the grave digger, kinda creepy
Ah, this iceberg makes me wish we would have gotten a special uncut version of the game with all these little things that were cut left in tact. It's already the perfect game in my eyes, but to see it could've been even better breaks my heart.
same but it comes down to time and money would have been out in 10 years which i would have had no problem with i mean cyberpunk should have been in devlopment another two years.
Yeah Imagine rooming new austin as arthur before blackwater massacre and more mission with hosea and the gang still intact, until the decide to cut new austin for rdr online I think, its really sad that we can't get the full experience. Some times it's really bother me when replaying the game from the start.
I do think at a certain point in the early development they tinkered with the idea of playing as Arthur, Sadie, and Charles, later switching to John. Though I think they realized this would have impacted the story they wanted to tell and scrapped it early on.
It's possible character 1/2 are related to your red dead online characters, as GTA online had 2 character slots and it's likely RDO originally had 2 as well. And the game has to keep track of your weight, cores, appearance, etc. so that data has to be stored somewhere and one of those character slots makes sense
@@JulioCesar-iu1wi I highly doubt Micah or Dutch were ever considered as playable characters, given one is a straight up antagonist and the other is the next closest thing.
I really hope Rockstar continues this path of adding little secrets and mysteries, partly because I find them so interesting, and partly because Guru will make videos about them :D
@@jameshetfield5382 i honestly dont think it was because of rdo, not all of them anyway, especially because some of them were pretty much finished. there was simply too much stuff in a game with already a lot of stuff, so some needed to be cut down
@@something-go4cd That’s no excuse. It’s the pattern from R* since GTA V. They’re re-releasing a 2013 game for the third time at full price. It’s ridiculous. Remember GTA IV? They made 2 story DLCs. Now they just keep adding content to GTAO and RDO because kids put tons of money into in-game currency. Rockstar has become greedy and lazy.
@@jameshetfield5382 the problem ain't rockstar games, is take two. Red dead started development before GTA v came out, and before the online was a hit. Also, RDO only was available month after realese, and it was very empty. Because of that I don't believe that the reason was RDO. Of course you could be right, or both of us could. They could left some side missions incomplete because they (probably) focus on online in the last stretch of production, but I know that a lot was cut simply because it has to be cut
@@damianboyd A lot of this content seems to be really off topic tho, as cool as they may be. The gang's story is the main focus, adding in these aliens, and big foots and princesses is just extra content, welcome for sure, but i think they just wanted to get Arthur Morgan and his stories across without straying all too far and giving the people a lot of side tracking. There's already quite a bit of stranger encounters and side missions, aliens and supernatural beings is a beast of its own.
Just like GTA V, they cut many things and put it inside the online version. For GTA V, I feel like they literally cut half of the original content so that the online version will be more packed, but RDR 2 done things subtlety, that I don't even realize how much contents they cut off from the main game until I watch this video. It's a shitty practice in order to get more people to play online game, since it's easier for Dev to gain profits by milking online players.
Why did they give Epilogue John Arthur's hair, body, animations, face expressions, wrong hair color, bleached mustache, broken outfits and downgrade his 1.00 version. And why Rockstar didn't use beta real Epilogue John Marston (The one you see in early screenshot of RDR2) even though they are in game and works well (All thanks to John Marston Restoration Mod)
It’s so hard for me to go through a real low honor play through with lore like the strange man. It just feels more meaningful. I’m not complaining, It shows how glorious their design is. Anyone agree?
*Upcoming video: 42+ minutes of Rockstar Games Easter Eggs* After starting to play Red Dead Online last August, I’ve been obsessed with all things Rockstar. I’ve been working on some videos about Rockstar for a while now and I’m finally ready to release them! I wanted to start off with something a little different. I honestly had to rush the polishing phase of the edit a bit for this due to the NVIDIA sponsor, but I hope everything turned out alright! I really hope you enjoy it, and thanks for watching!
I love how even when the videos are not about easter eggs, the quality is still so good and is still entertaining! If you wanna make more videos like this one feel free!
The serious tone, soothing yet creepy music, the feeling of every level getting more and more horrifying with every step we take... and comes the next one... BILL IS GAY.
i remember the green eyes one. that little random house abandoned with the childs rocking horse and the family dead on or near the dinner table... laying on the floor dead with green eyes... everyone (myself included) thought it was hinting at undead nightmare 2.... would've been sick if it were true
The world of Red Dead Redemption 2 is ridden with secrets and mysteries. Even the cut-content is a testament to the magnanimous lengths Rockstar were willing to go to give the player more to discover. Easily the best open-world I've ever experienced.
The green eyes for corpses in 2019 was a bug. There was a halloween update for RDRO with a zombie gamemode, and the zombies used standard corpse character models but with their eyes colored green. However, instead of adding new character models, rockstar had accidentally overwritten the existing corpse models that were already installed instead of adding them as separate files, a change that carried over to single player. This has since been fixed.
Main I would’ve really liked to see an overarching narrative with that birthmark cult. I guess that’s what they were planning to do with the princess cuz she also got like the same birthmark
Firewatch's OST is such a well composed soundtrack that is a perfect backdrop to create a comforting yet eerie vibe (just like Red Deads) that always pains me how much it goes unused. So glad it's here, essentially putting two of my all time favorites games into one video.
I thought it was the Firewatch OST! I literally just finished it close to two weeks ago and I’m ashamed to say I had to find your comment to confirm it.
Man i didnt want the video to end. I think that this could be a very intresting series. I found amazing how you edit, tell and explain the little secrets of these games. keep it up man.
Thanks so much! I am writing a 2nd Iceberg, but I'm not sure if it will become a video just yet. It's about another game series I'm passionate about that's very popular, but surprisingly doesnt have an Iceberg written for it.
Loved the video. Although I do think Micah was the only snitch. I don't think Abigail would ever have betrayed the gang even as much as she hated Dutch. Plus Micah looks hella nervous after the Saint Denis heist goes wrong. It's one of the only times in the game he's genuinely shaken, like he's afraid of being found out.
@@XXXTENTAClON227 Micah was a snitch all along. Pinkertons didnt pick him up till they got back, but there's a wanted poster and an article about dutch at his campsite and the fact he killed his cellmate when you broke him out of jail in strawberry. I'm sure he was singing to anyone who would listen because he didn't know if they were coming for him.
But since online came out months after story mode there were rumors that Rockstar intended to take the game into the same style as GTA V’s story mode where you could switch between Trevor, Micheal, and Franklin. So characters “2” and “3” could have been any of the other main characters i.e. Dutch, Lenny, Bill, Javier, etc.
Pretty sure that John has a line during the Saint Denis heist that explains how the gang got caught. He says that "we shouldn't have gone after Bronte." I think it was clear in the trolley mission and raid on Bronte's manor that he had connections with the Saint Denis police. He had probably told them about the bank robbery and they called in the Pinkertons to handle the situation after failing to catch the gang in the other two events.
It makes me sad so many amazing ideas that looked finish or damn near close were tossed aside for quests and things that go nowhere or feel unfinished.
This was an AMAZING video. I don't even want to think how many hours this took to put together - your content will always be some of my favourite stuff on RU-vid. You really shined a light on just how immensely in-depth this game is and how much more content we could've gotten on top of the huge base game if time was not of the essence for the developers. Thanks for making this. Really entertaining stuff.
everything that you make is an absolute pleasure to watch, ever since i started watching this channel as a kid has felt magical and consistently i’m amazed by the quality, pacing, feeling and emotion out into your videos. they are absolutely spectacular and i love you for it, thank you, sincerely.
It’s just mind boggling how massive and freaking diverse RDR2 was supposed to be than what we got. I wished they didn’t cut these contents, at least not those which had almost little to no impact on development time.
For the Francis theory. In the beginning of the mission he uses the term “hooch”. I did some research and that term became popular during the 1920’s. I don’t know what other time periods he’s been to but I thought this was cool.
Another thing about the strange man last scene in rdr1, not only the location but as john fires at him in frustration he gets 3 shots of before the 4th one jams. Why that happens is suppose to relate to Uncle, Abigail and John dieing but Jack is spared.
"There was no option, so Dutch is in charge of his own fate. You can't change Dutch." If that doesn't ring true about his character, I don't know what does. That's poetically beautiful.
14:24 Micah was probably the rat the whole game, since Abigail wasn’t known by the pinkertons, she probably was able to get out looking like a civilian due to her not being known, that is why in chapter 6, she gets captured out of camp due to the pinkertons knowing the gang is in beaver hollow, Micah was waiting for a big take and then taking Dutch to the pinkertons, he couldn’t in 1907 (epilogue) due to him being feared and known already, and the pinkertons basically dead, if he were to take Dutch to the newly formed BOI, he would likely get arrested as well. She no, Abigail wasn’t the rat.
Only issue is that the law was tipped off to the train robbery in Pouring Forth Oil, but the entire mission strand can be done while Micah is in jail, so he would have no way of knowing what the gang was planning
A lot of these are explained by Strange Man on his RU-vid channel, but this video made me feel like I was back in 2019 trying to figure out all of these mysteries on my own and I loved it
This video is absolutely amazing, but it's also infuriating to think about all these interesting things that could've been in the game, but were mostly cut, I'm assuming, to keep the game's file size to a sane amount. I hope Rockstar one day changes their mind and gives us some sort of single player DLC that manages to add some of this stuff back.
1:22 only rockstar would have a cut area that is just a ported area that still looks better than 90% of modern games, they care about the stuff they make.
5:35 the fish seen here is the model used for the mission in which you help hosea hunt the legendary bear at the start of the game, it is found on the ground as a clue, and soon leads us to the bear.
With the river mister audio, there's a glitch to get to Mexico and to do it you have to basically slide your way underwater across flat iron/lanahechee/San Luis anywhere along the rivers works, anyway at a certain point beyond where you'd normally be able to go with a boat or by swimming you hear some of these noises.
I think the artwork being based off the old design is true because I always thought that the Arthur on the cover didn’t look like Arthur. I was even confused before the game released about who was on the cover because It didn’t look like Arthur to me.
Another thing that suggests to me that Mexico was planned early in development is that in A Fisher of Fish II, Jeremy Gill mentions the fishing spot you are travelling to is near Frontera Bridge... only problem is that Frontera bridge isn't even in construction by 1907 so it is very strange how he knows about it... I imagine the entire quest was written before Mexico was gutted and they didn't remove that line
holy fuck this video was put together SO WELL. The music sets a nice mysterious vibe, the transitions are so clean, the immediate proof to things like how bill acts around kiernan. Great video. This deserves millions of views. Definitely earned a sub.
Wow, incredible video! I'd love to see more like this because this just opened a huge rabbit hole for me. RDRII is one of my favorite games and I'm going to go back in to explore some stuff due to this video. I was only vaguely aware of some of the mysteries and cut content but never knew it was this deep.
19:02 GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD GET OUT OF MY HEAD
i personally feel like RDR2 didn't have enough mysterious things going on.... the river monster would have made for a cool unique experience, and i also wish they did more with ghosts on the battlefield or even apparitions for a split second
the river monster noise sounded so cool, it sounds more machine like a quest where you discover te river monster is actually a submarine are something like that
Remember how the princess is blond? She also has a birthmark. She is explained by being cut, but maybe she was cut for a reason. Maybe the red head was epsilon, but due to his red hair he can't lead the group due to the laws, so he goes back in time, takes the princess, sends her forward, but gets stuck there in the process waiting for the day some brave soul comes along, gives them clues to unlocking time travel, traveling to his time without leaving any answers, causing a time loop for himself. It's just something that popped into my head, but I do know it is entirely wrong. It's just funny how she has a mark, is a princess, and goes missing with no trace, and since she is technically cut, she just completely vanished by lore.
the line "you need some help friend, you look kinda sick" can also be said by Arthur if you greet the guy with the collection box in Valentine from a distance. same dude you have to collect money from in "money lending and other sins III" same dude that infects you with TB during that same mission.
Character 1 and 2 could’ve been Pinkerton detectives putting together the story of what went down in black water and the escape and why some of the gang members couldn’t escape or were missing
Spider madison is alive and well, he just didnt know how big rdr would become and didnt want all the fame. Although there still isnt much known about him theres an interview by the voice actor of john where he recalls him and his stories and explainshow he couldnt commit the time on rdr2. A fan also saw him irl a few years back and posted a selfie with him online.
I think New Austin was cut from the game in late development and because they already had made it so detailed they probably decided to keep it in the game…
Awwww man. I feel like we were REALLY close to an Undead Nightmare 2. Maybe even involving aliens, like maybe Aliens were responsible for the zombies somehow. The green eyes could very well be a bug but they look too... Good? As if intentional, right? Rockstar could have a lot of fun with the "ancient aliens" theory alongside monsters, vampires, time travel and all that jazz. Could you imagine wading through the misty swamps at night with a pump action and a lantern with zombies and monsters all around. God. Damn. And there's no WAY Francis with his red hair and birthmark aren't related to Kraff somehow. I love this stuff man.
Oh so that track is from Firewatch. I played that game and love that track, but years later I forgot about it. Upon hearing it in this video I knew I heard it somewhere. Nostalgia hits.
20:27 New Bordeaux is the name of the city in Mafia III which was released in 2016, and since RDR2 was still in development at the time, it's possible that this was just a placeholder for Saint Denis and not a beta name. But I don't know why Rockstar would use the name of a city from a completely different game made by a completely different company.
