@XBOXRULES It's simply entertaining to watch these analysis videos.. Especially when it's about the Switch.. And a lot of the time, it's impressive by how a lot of the games run on it..
@XBOXRULES You worded that really weird.. But anyway, those comparisons aren't really viable to each other.. Because people don't mind the sacrifices on the Switch if it means that tgey can play it portably.. There are people who are excited for The Witcher 3 on Switch.. Which obviously will have cutbacks but that's not a huge deal to some people..
I totally agree. I'd also love to see all of the Bioshock games, and maybe some of the older Metal Gear Solid titles (i.e. Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater, etc).
To be fair, the PC version dropped from ~250fps to just ~100 when explosions occur. Dont get me wrong tho, its not a bash at PC, but more a hint at howy demanding and/or unoptimized the game is when physics comes into play.
Unoptimized?! This game modeled collapsing skyscrapers complete with structural stress in 2008 on a fucking 360. Physics simulation high end PCs of today sometimes struggle with. This game is perhaps the best optimized piece of software since the early nineties.

I have to say this about the Nintendo switch. Considering how small it is and that it’s a portable console. It’s impressive that it can run current games even with sacrifices.
It comes down to engine optimization and scalability. Look at Doom, it runs pretty well on the switch, while keeping all the original graphical effects like bloom, depth of field, AO, etc. But a game like fallout 76 probably wouldn't run unless the graphics look like Pubg mobile.

Would you guys be able to maybe interview some of the devs who created this game? How did they do destruction like this back then? Why does nothing come close to it now? Amazing tech.
There's just not another game on the switch right now that can handle environmental destruction. I'm not sure I understand the context of your question, Battlefield V exists and it runs in 4k, 60 frames, and you can destroy almost any building in a tank. Just cause 4 is 10 times better than gorilla Red Faction, and it's a current generation game. The switch Hardware just sucks
@@floatinggoose9197 the destruction in those games isn't nearly as granular or as widely useable as Guerrilla was. The only games that match Guerilla's destruction on a design level are RF Armageddon and Crackdown 3's multiplayer
Honest question, did you notice the frame rate drops then? I feel like I have played a lot of old games with terrible performance which I have seen to completely forgotten.
I don’t get people who overhype the difference between 1080p and 4K or 30fps and higher FPS. I was disappointed when I first played a game at 1440p and then 4k because the difference really isn’t that mind blowing. Now playing in higher frame rates is better but again it’s not mind blowing. Same thing with hdr. So please stop the overhyping and to people who play at 1080p, you’re not missing out that much.
I believe the development team spent a total of 220 million on Armageddon; however, since it was more against aliens than creatures instead of humans it bombed. I have not found a game to date being as destructible or repairable...also the weapons such as Mr. Toots was absolutely unique...
Just picked this up for $2.99 on Switch, and even quality mode looks horrendous on my 4K TV. Performance obviously is even worse. I'm having a hard time playing it.

I love the DF guys because while they obviously love the awesome performance of high-end PCs, they are never insulting or condescending when talking about consoles. That is an irritating quality that so many 'PC Gaming Master Race' jerks have, and I'm happy that DF never goes down that road in their videos.
Stefan DrakChe Switch really should have Twin Snakes, 2HD, 3HD, Peace Walker HD and 5 as these are all last gen games at least. I wish there were remasters of 4 and both versions of 1 for the other systems too.
I have the Steam/"ReMARStered" edition already for my PC, but now I think I'll get it on Switch as well. The game is just THAT MUCH FUN to play that I'll play it on my bed.
Got it for 3 bucks on the eshop about a week ago. . I played it years ago on the 360 and it's pretty cool to have it on the go now. . . I'm enjoying it on my switch lite and for 3 dollars. . . . money well spent.
Someone needs to build DF a tool that can estimate the resolution just by putting a video through it. It must be hard work having to pixel count so many versions of the game across multiple graphical profiles with dynamic resolution.
I hope they tune the performance on "Quality Mode" on Docked a bit to get it closer to holding 30. Either that or open up the Graphics Options, letting players create their own Performance Profiles my mixing and adjusting FX quality. Like you guys said, allowing Quality Mode with certain Performance Based features.
Why do we give Switch a pass for bad performance saying its a 'portable' console. This portable console costs just as much as the PS4 and the Xbox One. No reason for it to give subpar performance in games atleast in docked mode.
This runs very well now on PS5. Performance mode doesn't seem to drop whatsoever. Quality mode still looks weird. I'm not sure why 30fps looks so jarring in this game.
I just got it for $6 and I wanted to see how performance was. This is the only video I could find and I was immediately discouraged by the ps4 pro frame rate, even though I’m on PS5 now. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m glad you’re saying it runs significantly better. 🙏
HEY DEVS! Here are some guidelines for graphics options on console that would exist if I wrote the rules on this subject ......which, sadly, I realize I don't :-( 1) NO UNCAPPED FRAMERATES. EVER. Never, ever ever. 2) You have 2 modes... 30fps locked and 60fps locked. 3) Your "quality" mode should be highest resolution that allows you to play the game LOCKED at 30fps. No dips, at all, whatsoever. You wanted 4k, but, it drops to 20fps in certain areas? Too bad. Drop the res to 1800p. and keep going until you see a locked, never budging, 30fps. 4) Your "performance" mode should be a locked OR variable resolution that LOCKS the framerate at 60fps, SOLID. No dips, at all whatsoever. You wanted 1440p, but the framerate dips to 45-50fps in this mode? Too bad. Drop it to 1260p or 1080p or even 900p (or 240p if you are on the terrible Switch...) if you have to in those areas. Imo. Framerate lock to 30fps or 60fps in these modes should ALWAYS be paramount and should always take precedent over resolution or graphics options every single time. No exceptions.
But this game is CPU bound, so could never hit 60fps on Switch regardless of resolution. For most games though your points make sense, Darksiders would be a good example.
Yeah this is the problem with any pc game where the cpu does more work than normal. People think Arma runs like ass because there are games that look better and run better meanwhile Arma is running full physics simulations of every single bullet fired, or the momentum of a car. Guerrilla is running full building simulations of buildings where they're running different building materials with different toughness to explosives, blunt force, including the effects of gravity, taking down supports and having each of those building pieces fly off and break with full physics, particles and dust effects. And if you pay attention, it optimizes the HELL out of it. Everything it doesn't have to render disappears, but at the same time EVERY impact or bit of damage to the environment is saves when you return barring missions. All of this was happening on the 360 and now on the switch. THAT is more impressive than any skin shine tech demo
@@KaizAmari my bad I just don't remember it being all that much of an open world I remember it being pretty linier with alot of open spaces and some shit to blow up. Put it on the scale of crackdown 3 and this game would chug there is a reason red fraction can have this destruction there just isn't alot of ai or anything really to do apart from spam grenades crackdown 3 although not as ambitious as there first cloud engine *they lost the team who made it for the gameplay demo and that's why it's not as fleshed out* is night and day we are talking about leveling entire bridges and skyscrapers with a world full of ai and vehicles it's so much more ambitious.
Its bad either way that these newer machines have issues. Doom can be ported to switch with all that post processing. But a decade old game can't hold a frame rate higher than 20fps
Look at all the physics happening in an open world game. Doom is static with few physics and not open world. I don't know how people fail to look over common sense shit like this.
I think Ive found my golden ratio on pc. I run most games at 4k or 1800p (on 4k monitor) for bestgraphics and rtss cap at 58. The monitor is 40-60hz freesync, so capping global fps to 58 does miracles
Sad but true, this is still a very ambitious game 10 years after release. I guess Just Cause 3 tried to push things further, but that ran horribly. Maybe next generation?

Open world or not red faction is linier as fuck with hardly any ai large open spaces with nothing in them and just buildings to blow up and a few vehicles. Now bad company 2 on the other hand is online huge maps tons of vehicles destruction and 64 players I think that makes up for the destruction not being as polished don't you???
Fun fact, i always turn off shadows or the ambient option off. HUGE boost to FPS, and even if it makes the game look more realistic and less fake.. well 60 fps is a must.
