As a black man, let me say this, I am a proponent of keeping lore and casting consistent with the source material. Please keep all the characters as they were originally created. I don’t need to see white characters turned black to identify with them. If your story is good the themes will be universal and everyone will relate to it. If your story is garbage like the acolyte, then it doesn’t matter how much diversity you force into it. No-one will be able to relate to those characters let alone enjoy the content.

The whole point of remaking HP was to give us an adaptation that’s more accurate to the source material. Why on earth would they change the details of the main characters?

The only characters who are 100% safe from race-swapping are Harry and all of the white-male villains. Draco, Lucius, Wormtail, Voldemort, etc., all safe. Anybody else could be changed. You want to have a series, you have JK on staff and you have GHIBLI fill in all the missing areas, you can do huge animated series, and you get a huge manga name to release a manga alongside. And you just throw money at them, you throw money and you just make the most incredible series for like 10 years, because you could throw so much money to keep quality so high that you'd be making far more cash in sales. Right now, HBO is just repeating WHO/DISNEY/ROP if they swap even one person.

I live ten minutes from "the new Hollywood", where all of the movies and television shows are filmed now. I also homeschool my kids and studios like working with homeschoolers as extras because they don't have to worry about a school schedule so we have had tons of casting calls come through our community. For the past five years EVERY single role has specifically requested "persons of color". There was one about a ballerina that was not inherently race related. They still demanded all "ballerinas of color". The thing about that was that there were not enough non white ballerinas to even try out. 😂 It's all good, though, I didn't want my "white appearing" kids around Pedowood anyway so we never even tried for it, but the whole thing is so desperate and gross.

This whole idea is a mistake. No matter what, they're going to upset part of the fan base that loves the OG movies & doesnt want them rebooted. What they SHOULD do is make a TV series based on the Hogwarts Legacy story from the game. It had everything that made the OG HP successful: a Hogwarts student with special abilities facing an existential evil. Everything that made the original series good could be inserted. Then, after this serues has its multi-season run, they could reboot the OG movies/books.

Harry will have previously been Harriet, but was transitioned at 10. Ron will be a white guy, but he'll be useless and minimized. Hermione will be black but have reddish hair and gender fluid/queer and will have a relationship with Harry while Ron will be pretty much smacked around by everyone. I've been watching DVDs of favorite shows from my childhood (and I'm old like Gary): Barney Miller, WKRP in Cincinnati, Adam 12, Star Trek (the last two in syndication), stuff like that. Between 15 and 20-something episodes a season. And it was great! Every fricking week they had a new story to shoot, and they got it done in time to air. But the writing was great and the shows were absolutely worth watching. Look at shows now. If I'm honest, 6 to 8 episodes is way too many for modern shows because they can't write worth crap and the direction is garbage so the shows often are too. If they cut Ahsoka down to essential bits only it wouldn't have even been the length of one of those after school special "movies" that were on TV when I was a kid (again, I'm old). And, really, that would have been the best thing possible for that show, or almost any other recent show that looks like a reject from the CW. Make it a one shot pilot length special and then see if anyone gives a sh!t. And when the answer is no you've not squandered as much money.
