There's something about this song that get's me emotional. It's a good example of how RHCP can create songs that sound lighthearted and like sunny southern california, but melancholic and depressive at the same time.
@AndreaFauche

The guitarist here is Josh, not John Frusciante. The Getaway is really a special album production by RHCP, is a different sound, more lay back melodies and a special studio mixing, I like it because it’s different from their other releases, still you can feel their essence. Thanks David for the always great reactions

Yeah, they tried Danger Mouse as producer instead of usual Rick Rubin. Love this album! So bummed they scrapped the second album they were working on with Josh and Danger Mouse, because John rejoined. They had been working on it for about a year. I think it's a slim chance that material is going to see the light of day

@@DaP84 seems a very remote possibility. Seems like they haven’t split in the most pacific way with Josh, maybe they weren’t happy with the new material till that moment, so they took the chance to reconnect with John (?) Hopefully one day as unreleased special edition, who knows.

@@AndreaFauche didn't sound like that from Josh, he was excited over the progress and evolution. I think he said it was their best work together yet, by far, and that his guitar playing really bloomed on this one. He said this after the album was scrapped and John was back. We can only hope

@@DaP84 Listen to Josh project "Pluralone" and the second album "The Night Wont Scare Me" its sound like The Getaway and release is 2020 after Getaway.

@@johnik2338 thanks, have to look into that album! Remember I checked out live takes of some of his material after he was out of RHCP, and liked what I heard

For me the Intro is the most fascinating thing in this song, it gives me a special mood. As always thank you for your honest review

Believe it or not this was the biggest hit off of this album, “The getaway” and the other relatively big hit off of this album was goodbye angels which you reacted to already

A decent song but a good example when a perfect machine loses a vital component, it is no longer synergistic.

This one and Encore off the same album. To this day they still hit me right in the feelings the same way they did the first time I listened to them.

Completely valid points in your review. It's definitely more melodic than their older stuff but personally I enjoy that. This album does have a few songs that are more funk oriented but most of them are a mix similar to this one. Not sure if any are worth making a video about but Sick Love, This Ticonderoga, We Turn Red, and Go Robot are the funkiest songs on there if you want check them out (this isn't a video request, just saying if you get free time/desire to check them out). Have a good day!

The drums are mostly done with a drum machine loop. The producer of the album danger mouse forced chad to do it 😢

The smooth groove has it in my top 3 Pepper songs, actually 😅😅 Definitely one of those songs that I feel can't be critiqued by the music alone since there's also a strong message regarding counterculture in the lyrics.

Josh Klinghoffer was sort of the protege of John Frusciante but he became a musician in his own right, not only holding it down for the RHCP but also playing in Pearl Jam and Janes Addiction

Pretty much my score for this one. Definitely the best song on this album. Was pretty much indifferent to the 2 albums with Josh. They're not bad, but they kind of lack the dynamics that they have with John. Would be interesting to hear what guitar part John would come up with for this track

Flea studied piano before the album “I’m With You". Since that time (2011) every album have a couple of songs being leaded by piano… I’m glad they don’t do it in every single song tho, that would be awful

Not my favorite.. produced by Danger Mouse… I’d love to see RHCP work with ‘90s rock producer extraordinaire Brendan O’Brien again. Haven’t done anything with him since 1991’s Blood Sugar Sex Magik which he engineered and mixed. Artists he worked with in the ‘90s besides RHCP: King’s X, The Black Crowes, Stone Temple Pilots, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Aerosmith, Rage Against the Machine, Neil Young, etc etc

Actually, none of the rchp enthusiast liked this "song" ...this is a really bad one, the bass reminds u of another rhcp song, CAN'T STOP .. You should react to some new stuff from them , like songs from the album "Return of the dream canteen", released in 2022,,,,it's a funky album

I have to agree here. It was the best thing they did between Stadium Arcadium in my opinion up until Unlimited Love last year, which is a great album.
