They have great chemistry as musicians when Frusciante is with them but Kiedis is a downright embarrassment. Frusciante is also certainly overrated as a songwriter like a lot of people think his solo stuff is good but it’s nothing really special either but I think he’s a better vocalist than Kiedis.

Me again, I think the main reason why I hate this band a majority of it is Bc of the fan base . I swear it’s an actual cult . For whatever reason people get so unbelievably triggered when you don’t like bands like Pink Floyd or RHCP . Those two bands hold the same weight and the sheer cult following behind it is insane . But with RHCP along with every song sounding the same , it’s legit mediocre. Very cheap Strat tones and riffs and it’s honestly over used . But the lead singer I promise you is the worst of all. Anytime I hear his voice it’s more than cringe . It’s agony of just “again ???...when will you people give it a rest ?????” .

Yes, yes yes on Rick Danko’s bass playing!

They used to be my favorite band. I thought that being naked 24/7 and high off smack and blow was glamorous and edgy (I was eleven, goddamnit.). but I would say (er) a year or two later, I started immersing myself into music forums and it wasn't just that, it was all of their concert clips, especially during the late-1980's, that was pretty much a P-Funk and Sly Stone circle jerk, covering all these songs (mainly from their self-titled debut to 1974's "Standing on the Verge of Gettin' It On") badly. So I thank RHCP when they (reluctantly) say, "Look at these bands we're ripping off and please drop what you're doing and go listen to them." I read Anthony's horrendous biography, and a huge mistake on my part because around 12:43, when talking about his dick, recalled a story I've read in that piece of trash that is, "Scar Tissue", of Anthony having sex with a fourteen year-old girl while on tour, hence, "inspired" him to write "Catholic School Girls Rule" that later appears on their second album. There is also a story where Flea and Chad force a secretary into sex in a storage closet at the offices of Epic Records in an attempt of getting signed. She was told by friends of her's to not dare come close to them because they're filthy, chauvinist pigs who think whipping their cocks out is a way to get into their pants and a year before, the two of them were arrested for obscenity charges, including indecent exposure, because *fucking duh* . I've never had an ounce of respect for them after the fact and only hear them when a song of theirs plays at a bar or restaurant. They also had a chance to open for the Ramones around the time of "Uplift Mofo ..." and what a way to greet yourself to such legends with nothing but your socks, and Frusciante had to legit apologize to Johnny after befriending him about the incident despite not being in the band at the time, the rest of the band having to prove their professionalism.

The only album I like from RHCP is Greatest Hits!!!

When I was growing up and first learning to play bass, it was the early nineties and all my other friends that played bass wanted to sound like flea or les claypool. None of my other bass player friends could understand why I didn't like Primus or Red Hot chili peppers, since they have incredible Bass players. I tried to explain that somebody can be very talented and still put out music that sucks, but that went over their teenage heads

Its a personal taste what sucks or amazing. Its not a ballot at all. I'm the odd one out often that doesn't love tartar sauce and cocktail sauce yet does love malt vinegar to the max. Doesn't make it less true bc we don't have to be cardboard cut outs to be human, we're all individual. I still adore the peppers even if you don't :) -A

I kinda liked RHCP back during the Mother’s Milk days, though I always saw them as a poor man’s Faith No More. However, Californication got really old real freaking quick. I had a friend who was blasting Scar Tissue relentlessly throughout the summer of 1999, and the friendship partially ended on account of that song. I still think that Tom Petty should have sued them over Dani California, clear plagiarism of Mary Jane’s Last Dance.

Funky Monkeys wasn’t bad. Blood Sugar was alright. After that they nose-dived into the dumpster. Also Anthony can’t sing. Flea is a good bassist but they put him on a leash since BSSM. John was easily the most creative guy in the band, their best stuff was with him by a mile.

Cant deny Chili Peppers had a few chill tracks here and there. But ya they are massively overrated they just made the same album over and over again. Anthony cant sing and just throw some funk bass and people love it.

Yikes. Well, in this maelstrom of hate, Frusciante comes out as a bright spot. They call him a genuinely talented, phenomenal guitar player and recommend his solo work. Silver lining.

I doubt i will get an answer but I'm very curious if you think Nirvana Sucks. Are you just contrarians- not being a jerk- kinda curious you guys are quite intelligent obviously and have musical knowledge to be sure- but i listened to your Bowie one- and I think TONS of Bowie- everything after 1979 probably- is trash. BUt Hunky Dory(with yes, Andy Warhol on it- is one of the most creative albums ever). And a few songs from the Ziggy period were good- but are you kind of contrarians- honestly do you do this to get more clicks by picking every huge act- so i doubt i will get an answer- but who do you like. Is there any way you could please list like 7-8 individuals or groups that iyu do appreciate i am very curious because i really like alot of your opinions and statements. I am a fan of this podcast now for sure- have binge watched 5 since discovering it yesterday.

The radio overplays it to the point where most people get irrationally angry whenever it comes on, and three years later, they come out with Every Man For Himself. EVERY FUCKING SONG ON THE ALBUM IS A FUCKING BALLAD.

I used to watch episodes where they talked shit about bands I actually liked only because the bands that do actually sucked, made me think what can they say that I haven't said myself. But I love that we're all on the same page. Red hot chili peppers used to be one of my favorite bands until I grew up and they remained the same shitty band.

Slap bass doesn’t suck. I mean unless done excessively, which in this case its definitely applied. That being said, Flea most certainly does not suck. The songs which he isn’t slapping, he’s really outstanding. A lot of his work on Stadium Arcadium is genius. If it wasn’t for Anthony Kedis, I don’t think anyone would really hate them. They probably wouldn’t have made it either though. Hard to say the band sucks when 3/4th of the band are outstanding musicians! I always thought Kedis was a shit lyricist until I read his memoir and he’d explain the lyrics to most of the songs that weren’t the “rap style” ones, and the lyrics are actually pretty powerful! But for those rap ones like give it away, around the world, etc… yes I agree lol. I always find these pods extremely entertaining!
