It was indeed John Frusciante! That last guitar solo outro part was a special layering, too. He filled up an entire 24-track with guitar parts for it. :)
i love that red hot chilis fans are on top of requests for you.... just wish there were more older songs being asked for. So.... 'the song that made us what we are today" by red hot chili peppers is my request.... i look forward to it sometime later in 2022 haha
David the fans have spoke they love the RHCP reactions👍 btw the whole album is super compressed. Steve Hoffman fixes that on the vinyl version but the CD is definitely compressed as hell .
They announced a new album for next year! It will be the first with their old guitarist John Frusciante who took a break for 10 years and old fans can get hyped for new stuff. Maybe a first single will drop soon…
I've been looking forward for this whenever I remembered it was put in the queue a long time ago! Great reaction, it reminded me how much the bass in this grooves. And damn, Chad's opened hi-hat crescendo in the bridge is fine. And imo John's very recognizable by how he's jerking the motives in the solo part at the end :D
Good review David! I was looking forward to this video coming. For me Anthony Kiedis and John Frusciante have great highlights in this song, when I heard it for the first time I was impressed. It's not my favorite on the album, but for me it's one of the best. And I didn't imagine that many people had asked for this song together with me hahaha Thanks for the react David!
Good song off a great album. If you look back to the songs you’ve reacted to off this album you’ll see a pattern of greatness. I believe the song you’ll like most on the entire album is in the que as I requested quite a while ago. Hopefully in the next couple months.
Which song did you request? Just curious. My feeling is that Dave would enjoy Readymade or maybe Especially in Michigan based on where he comes from musically
Thanks, man! I loved your reaction and analysis. I love the song mainly for the chorus and solo/outro. The verse is OK, but it's the chorus that really hooks me.
Enjoyed your breakdown of this song. Like you not my favorite song of theirs but one to listen to. This album is when I started taking them a little more seriously.
Thanks for the reaction David. Glad you enjoyed it. It's one of my personal favourites. I just love the groove of it. Not super complicated or anything. But it's just a smooth sounding song. Do a RU-vid search for the Stadium Arcadium documentary. They go through each track and describe how they came up with the track.
I agree with you on the engineering too BTW. There's a few Chili Peppers songs on this album and Californication that are a bit dry, engineering wise. Parallel Universe is one that is in that boat. Which I why a I prefer the Slane Castle version. Plus John does a great solo on the live version.
When you hear a song in G# (or similarly unusual key for guitar-centric music, like D#) they are likely tuned down half a step and playing as if they were in A.
One of the most important things for the RHCP philosophy is that simplicity is great rather than bad. They talk a lot about creating unique soundscapes using only the absolutely essential. They can play complex things too, though. Both Flea and John Frusciante played on Mars Volta. Frusciante is on every album except their last. You can also see them playing some stuff a little more complex in this shitty quality video that I'm going to link. They wrote these progressive rock inspired "jams" in a day and only played them once at this gig and never again. They make minor mistakes at times, but it's very good given the circumstances. It might surprise you at times. Frusciante is on the right with the strat, Flea in the middle and Omar Rodríguez-López on the left. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-XO9jkruNd78.html Also, I suggest Body of Water by the RHCP for a review. It's a b side, but their b sides are often some of their best: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-vWqN-3ecc64.html
Don't forget Jack Sherman on their debut, then Hillel returning for Freaky Styley and Uplift Mofo. John doesn't first join the band until Mother's Milk.
Recently in Walmart I heard this song playing faintly. Checked out and walked out the store hearing it louder. It was my crazy daughter rocking out in the truck waiting for me! The truck windows were up too!🤣🤣🤣
Just some helpful advice, 95% of the time you get recommendations from chili pepper fans, it’s going to be John playing. It sure as fuck isn’t going to be Dave Navarro and although I like Josh, it doesn’t seem I’m in the majority. So if you’re doing a chili peppers song, you don’t have to guess, it’s almost always going to be John.
Wet sand is the best track on the album imo after the previous 2 albums this album did feel like a letdown, it definitely didn't need to be a double album at the time....
