To all of you struggling; I have played for many years now and this song is hard for me to learn as well. That doesn't mean you are bad or lack the skills, it means that you need to be persistent and keep practicing. Through the practice you will develop the skill needed to pull this song of. Keep playing and see ya at Woodstock 2020 if we're still here!
yep! keep trying. you won't be able to for a while, but that's inevitable for everyone. you have to build up the strength in your fingers and get used to the positions, stretches, and motions.
Don’t recommend using a capo. Rather just learn it right. Can’t improve without practicing and just take the easy way out doing autistic brain dead alternatives.
RHCP songs are much harder to play than one would expect bc they usually require long stretches between notes and lots of hammer ones and pull offs to make it sound correct
sorry to be so offtopic but does anyone know of a method to log back into an instagram account? I stupidly lost my password. I would love any tricks you can offer me.
A year ago I woulda never thought I’d be able to pull this off, and being able to play it along to the actual song, but it comes to ya. Don’t burn yourself out on it though. I’d say if you start getting frustrated put it away for a week and come back it’s amazing how when you start back at it the next part might come a little easier
Your lessons are inspiration and motivation for at least half future pro guitar players. You are going to be a legend. You are responsible for all my guitar knowledge since 2016. I appreciate your hard work, thank You:)
I watched this and was practicing this all night last night I almost got it ,it just takes patience and practice of course it’s worth it beautiful frusciante intro
Great lesson. This is still one of my favorite songs after all these years. I love John's playing on this tune; you can really hear the Hendrix in this one.
Today i got a early birthday gift from my uncle. My uncle had been playing guitar for 17 years, and i have always wanted one ever since i was little. On my 10th birthday i got the guitar and i was crying so much 😭 i really am blessed and i wanna give him credit for all of his love 🙏
You are amazing brother. I have learned the proper techniques for so many songs from you. This was an all time favorite taht I thought was impossible years ago. Now that I have played for years, and watch you, I can play one of my favorite songs. Much love. Peace.
great tutorial, the only one that suggest a hammer on when transitioning to the D major instead of sliding 4/5 on the A string which Marty Music thinks you do which isn't accurate
Sigrafix I know, my pinky isnt even long enough to properly reach the string at that fret... If it does, its touching the string below. I have to force it with my right hand into position but there is no effing way I can put it there on its own...
Not sure, but I would be happy to help if you send me a link to video of you playing. That way I can see if there is anything going on that could cause some pain. Cheers! Carl..
I've tried playing this a really long time ago, no way, 15 years later almost got it, with more practice I'll have it. This really is a hard intro, never really liked the red hot chilli peppers but this song really is a good song and just man what a guitar lick
I have less than long fingers to say the least, and developing impossibly long stretches only takes preactice. Your hand will remarkebly adjust as your muscles memorize. Practice hard for a couple months. It will happen. This intro took a couple months for me to get it to sound clear and feel natural, but it lead to so many other positions and new avenues.
This is just one of the songs that requires more muscle memory I’ve been playing for 2 years and can’t get it straight away so if your struggling just keep at it, it’ll come eventually 🤘🏻
Using a capo is a bad habit. The only reason why you should use it is if you're singing and want the guitar to be in a key that your vocal range can handle OR you play in a different key just purely for aesthetics
To anyone that struggles with their fingers stretching try this my girlfriend started playing and never thought she could do it - Learn it on the acoustic and keep trying and trying for a few days Then go back to the electric and play You will get it down.for beginners remember you are only beginning and it takes time for the muscles in your hands to change for the weird things your putting them through . Think of the gym it takes 22 days for your body to forget its couch potato state before it starts adapting to the shock your putting it through - hence why most people quit in the first two weeks on their New Years resolution . I think you have to have the mindset of train hard fight easy and it’s the same for playing guitar . Acoustic guitar will be harder as the neck and strings are thicker. So if you learn it on the acoustic first the electric guitar neck is thinner and you will nail it . Moral is - don’t give up just keep fucking up . It’s ok to fuck up and it doesn’t have to sound good straight away . Keep at it and it will come ! Trust me ! Happy playing guys !
Awesome. I've only been playing off and on for a couple years and avoided anything that appeared this difficult. Turns out it's not as hard as it sounds, but you have made it easy to learn. Thanks!
This song made me realize that I really need to work more on chords and stuff, been playing for almost two years and have gravitated more towards lead guitar exercises and single note riffs, scales.. i can play barr chords just fine but quickly landing them, picking through them and having them sound good as this song requires is me a hard time, its not like youre just strumming them..
Yup had the same realization and when you work on your chords and strumming it makes you feel like a more complete foundational guitar player and for some reason at least to me it makes my lead playing better Another simple technique I ignored in the beginning which is now hard for me oddly enough is something silly as playing muted notes mid song
+valdi vall the secret to overcome is never to look at the difficulty of the fingers movement but rather to hear the note. Note comes first concentrate on finger later.
You have a great patience as a teacher, and i just don t as a learner. I guess i need to find a new place in my brain to have a better control on my fingers. Thank you , love this song for a long time . I ll come bak !!!
My fingers keep muting the other strings on the first part man this guy is lucky for long fingers im like 2 months into guitar and im trying this lmao just bc i love this song:)
Going through the exact same thing. The transitions are so god awful for me right now but everyone in the comment section is right. Just gotta at it and repeat repeat. I’m determined to at least make the transitions sound smooth without pauses and string mutes
@@Yeoldepube this one is still very tricky for me. I’ll work on other guitar things for a while then I come back to this. This song will take me a while
Thank you for this lesson. I put off learning this one for a while, but when I finally got around to it your channel was the first I looked up, and it didn't disappont. Thank you again :)
good accurate video, but you should stop now and then and go through a few times. when you start trying to show the hammer-ons thing get quite confusing.
Instead of doing the hammer on at the 5th then having to move you 3rd finger back down to the d string (which I found the hardest part). You can do a slide with your pinky from the 4th to the 5th fret instead. I found this easier!
Cant play it very well first night cant do the hammering or anything but gonna keep practicing cos my hands arent strong enough yet. Anyone that has small hands like me you can still do it just gotta build up your strength
Hi, thanks for this lesson, that sounds great, but I do feel it painful as hell as well. Is there any specific kind of training to help perform these chords? Cheers.
Yes this one is tough, but i love the challenge,,, you go man,,, great lesson,,, love that c shape on 2nd fret,,, thats tough even sliding it down as well,, but very good,,,
I think it's a little easier to understand if you have the tabs of the song as well. It's not that hard for me, except for the f#m; when hybrid-picking this one, I hardly get the B-string to sound clear.
you guys who complain that yall have small fingers i am a fourteen year old who's hands are super small and i can still play this, all you have to do is practice practice, you dont need bigfoot hands to play this i promise
Where that first hammer on is, I found that it is easier for me to make the chord shape originally, but with both my ring and pinky on the 4th fret, then jsut slide my pinky to the 5th, instead of hammering on the pinky followed by making my ring finger move back. Is this a solid thing to do?
awesome video bro! what amp and amp settings do you use? im doing this for a school performance and we have a line 6 spider IV HD150. Tahanks dude one of the best guitar tutoring youtube channels around
Orange Micro Terror Dark. $300ish for the head and cab, depending on what size cab you get. Blows the Line 6 out of the water. The Peavey Vypyr and Fender Mustang amps are pretty good too. On a budget, you can do so much better than a Line 6. Also might be worth checking out digital amp sims like Peavey Revalver and BIAS Amp/FX.
I don't know why I have such trouble transferring back to that D major chord in the intro where you have to open by hammering on with your pinkie (I slide the pinkie. I've seen it played either way). There is just such a delay for me that I can't seem to overcome, going from the pulloffs to that D.
@@GuitarLessons365SongLessons I checked, he's confirmed it himself. He recorded the album with a capo but played it live the way its shown here. If you're using a capo for anything else and have one around anyway, it's way easier that way imo
Bands don't always admit to having a second guitar player in the studio, yet I've seen different lessons that get most of those little extra diddly's with only one guitar!
