*This demo is in true stereo. Please use headphones or proper monitor setup for the best sonic experience*
Guitar, Synthesizer and Drum Machine demo of Red Panda Labs enigmatic echo machine, the Raster 2.
Available for purchase at: thepedalzone.com/raster-2/
The Red Panda Raster 2 might be marketed as a delay, but it’s so much more than that. Sporting a pristine true stereo digital delay engine, a switchable Shift section, that lets you add pitch-shifting, detune and frequency shifting to your delayed signal, as well as a super powerful LFO section that can be assigned to control either delay time, shift or amplitude, this pedal quickly reveals itself as a true sonic playground. Classic digital delays, pitch-shifted echoes, octave effects, cascading reverse soundscapes, chorus, phaser, tremolo, ring modulation and so much more, is all captured in this compact and clever device. And with Tap Tempo, MIDI and Expression Control, this pedal fits perfectly into any rig.

One gets so much with the raster v2. They get an insanely powerful delay/pitch shifter, but also a chorus, a vibrato, a flanger, a phaser, and a tremolo or vibe, and everything in between. Seriously one of the best pedals ever.

I agree..It's amazing...endless soundscapes.. I've only had it 2 day's and barely tipped the iceberg...Played around with the shift function (Still much more to explore there)..And haven't even touched the modulation section yet!.. Having it in stereo with reverb added is absolutely gorgeous..What's cool is all the Alt parameters expanding the experimentation even more...

Good to be back, gang! This time with the final demo of the year, and I've been truly excited to share this one with you. This time I dive deep into the new Red Panda Raster 2, my most anticipated pedal of the year. It delivers everything I hoped for, but also so much more. What a wild stereo ride this is. So put on a good pair of headphones, or place yourself in front of a decent monitor setup, and let the shifting delay soundscapes of the Raster 2 envelope you. As always, if you dig the demo, then please consider leaving a like or a comment, or go all the way and share the experience with your partners in tone. Your support and engagement gives this demo journey life. Thank you for being a part of this. All the best - Stefan

Coincidentally, I just scored one of these hot tamales (used, in mint condition, and only $265) just last night on Reverb. Now, a day later, I've found the best demo I've seen/heard for this pedal (so far), and it only gets me more excited about the possibilities it offers, which makes my wait for its delivery even more difficult. Keep on killin' it Stefan, your demos are some of the very best!

I'm listening to this while I have lunch with the kids. I stopped chewing as I was so in to this demo. It is incredible. I had always persuaded myself that the Raster wasn't for me. I'm an idiot, how wrong I was. The Microfreak section was simply mind blowing. I wanna make bell beats! Stunning, stunning demo Stefan. Long live the king.

Really cool to hear that my demo was able to give you a new perspective on this pedal. All of the controls can make it look intimidating, complex and weird for the sake of weird, but it's actually super intuitive and super musical. It can definitely get weird if you want it to, but it's just as easy to manifest bread-and-butter tones and atmospheric textures in spades. Thank you for the sweet words about the demo. @saltspringdesign
@saltspringdesign 2 года назад
Apart from much higher priced Eventide units this appears to be the only delay that will do what i want; i.e. the pitch shifted delay where ever delay cycle is shifted up one 5th or an octave; a strange and wonderful effect for doing intricate counterpoint that i first discovered in Guitar Rig 5 Psyche Delay where it goes by the name of Crystal. That is one cool, useful textural effect but it's the magical counterpoint aspect of it that i really love. At least i know of no other hardware pedal that has this function. thx for the demo :)
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 года назад
Meris Hedra does it as well. But it's solely focused on pitch-shifted delays, whereas Raster 2 is a lot more than that. So it all depends on what you want. Raster 2 rocks. Best pedal I played last year. Happy you enjoyed the demo

Superb demo, Stefan, I am so very close to adding on of these to my set-up. However, I do have an important question, as I only run a mono-rig. In mono, if I set up the dual delays in series, can I have different pitchshifted intervals on the L and R delays (say a 5th below on the L and an octave below on the R, but in mono) to create Thermae-like arpeggios, as per your demo but with 2 intervals cascading, or would I need a stereo set up to benefit from that?

And in what order would you install them? Thank you! I try to build dream pedalbord and now the question of choosing a second delay frustrates me a lot. now my chain looks like this: Meris Enzo, Jackson modular fuzz, EAE longsword, EAE model fet, Meris Hedra, GFI synesthesia, tensor 2 (or cba mood), raster 2 polymoon, meris mercury 7

Raster is more of a straight up delay with some magic tricks up its sleeve. It's kind of an effect designers canvas. A ton of different sounds is based around delay, and Raster will let you create them through its highly tweakable delay engine.

I’m a casual fan who has probably watched most of your pedal demos, so I don’t want to sound silly. but do you have recorded material? like solo or in a band
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 года назад
Thank you very much for watching the channel. It really means a lot to me. And you're not sounding silly at all. I'm very flattered. I don't have any solo material out. I've been in multiple bands throughout the years though. I wouldn't say any of them sound like "me". Bands are always an amalgamation of the sounds, inspiration and experiences of the different members. But you can probably hear me pop out once in a while 😊 My old bands are called "Sky Architects" and "Cloud Anthems". My current band is called "Don't Come Looking For Us". You can find all of them on RU-vid, Bandcamp or your favorite music streaming service.

08:37 Do you demo this effect patch on guitar in any video? I wasn't looking at the screen when I heard this and for a moment thought, finally, a different sounding effect for guitar... Then when I checked the screen I was disappointed to see it was coming from a synth. And I wish I heard the synth dry before to have a better idea of what this effect was doing. And that goes for all of the riffs / patches. IMO, it's best to hear it dry before and then after with the wet version. JFYI, I use the term "patch" to mean what some call a program, algorithm, preset, register, effect, tone or timbre. Are there finally standard terms for it nowadays? Lately I see guitarists use the term tone to imply the final output after all the processing.

Sounds totally amazing, what in your opinion what would you recommend as better, the Red Panda rastar2 or the Keeley Eccos ? you seems to be equally enthusiastic for both
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 года назад
Yes, I'm very enthusiastic about both Raster 2 and Eccos since they excel at different things. One isn't objectively better than the other. It all depends on your musical context and what you're looking to achieve. If you want an intuitive delay with a pronounced vintage tape-like vibe and an additional looper, then it's Eccos all the way. If you want an insanely deep platform for textural tweaking, then it's Raster 2.

Hey mate I recently have bought the Raster V2 and I really love it - thank you for inspiring me! One question: As I see there are 4 presets on-board, but 127 via Midi. Does via midi mean, that there can be saved up to 127 presets when using for example an effects switcher like the ES-8?
@stephenkapprere6421
@stephenkapprere6421 2 года назад
Aleks use the web editor for the raster to save to those other presets (127) then you should be able to recall using the ES-8.

So do you need to be hooked up to the computer/web editor to use the midi presets. Or can they be stored in the midi pedal. 4 presets is not sufficient for a peedal with these capabilities. I feel like that is the only setback for this pedal for me.

As a synth/keyboard player i'm torn between the Particle 2 and the Raster 2 - any ideas on which to go for please ?
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone Год назад
If you're looking for a more "normal" delay experience. Something that feels and sounds like a familiar delay, but with powerful experimental pitch-shifting and modulation features, then go for Raster 2. If you want something that's absolutely different from the get-go, something that's squarely aimed at texture and not so much familiar delays (even though it can do that if you absolutely want it to), then go for Particle 2.

I know it may not be s perfect 1 to 1 comparison. But if you only had room for raster 2 or microcosm....which one?
@thepedalzone
@thepedalzone 2 года назад
Well, if I had room for a Microcosm, then there would literally also be room for 2,5-3 Rasters 😂 Jokes aside, they are incredibly different pedals. So it would all depend on my musical context and what I wanted to achieve. Microcosm is very much like playing through a very curated and focused ambient VST plugin. You get a bunch of different effects that are all very pre-designed and hyper focused to do a certain thing. Then you can augment them with the built-in reverb or looper. Raster 2 is more like an open canvas. You get some sounds like delay, pitch modulation, pitch-shifting, amplitude modulation etc etc etc, and then it's up to you how you put them together. If you want immediate ambient gratification, then it's Microcosm. If you want a dive into how effects are made, then it's Raster 2. There's not really any overlap between the two pedals. So if you can afford both, then you can easily have both on your board.
