Hi guys! I make this bow of Black Locust. I found a natural-dry tree. The arrows shafts are of Cornus Mas. Rawhide bowstring. I hope you enjoy it! Support : / stiliyan
You never cease to amaze . The nut oiling the bow was awesome . I bet there have been a lot of people motivated from your videos to make something. I've made about 10 bows over the last year and the first one was because I watched your channel. Thanks for for sharing your skills and creativity with everyone.
I’ve built about 25 bows but it’s been about 8 years since my last one. I have 2 beautiful Osage & one yew wood staves just waiting for me but I wanted to say the nut oil is awesome. If you don’t know this, use gun stock oil as a finish & after a bunch of layers use borax and veg oil mix together. With a rag rub the borax oil mix on you’re bow, this really makes a professional finish.
Absolutely love your videos, and the beautiful scenery. You are the most talented bow maker on RU-vid that I’ve ever seen. I’m a bow Maker myself and I’ve learned a lot from your videos
Simply stunning! Every part of film is precious. Hot rocks in the water - watched that only in Black Robe movie where Mohawks used it kinda sauna but would never get idea to steambend piece of wood 😳 Wallnut part is priceless, never heard /seen that! You're amazing, Stily! One of most rockin' documentaries ever, pure art 👍
There is really no way to pay so much valuable knowledge that you have been giving us, really from the heart thank you very much, you are a true and unique master !!! YOU ARE A REAL MASTER!!!
I was unfamiliar with Cornus Mas so I googled it and found that the ancient Greeks preferred it for spears, staffs and even bows. Have you ever made a bow of it?
He just made a Cornus Mas bow, that's the wood used in the video lol. Cornus Mas should be an awesome bow wood. Across the pond, Flowering Dogwood was used by indigenous Americans to make arrows, club/mallets, and bows. Further north there is a smaller Cornus shrub, Osiers Dogwood, that was also great for making arrows.
Amazing video. Mother earth provides all we need if we care for her. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and passing on your skills to the next generation. I vote this video to get 1000 000 views.
A true crafstman. Like you, ive acquired these same skills over a lifetime of 43 years, starting as young as 8 with my obsession with survival skills. Thank you for keeping this lifestyle alive.
You're an artist, no question about it... and the landscape is so beautiful & unique. Love those jagged ancient rocks rocks standing out. Feels like you are in place quietly whispering about millions of years of nature history.
Anuther great video I have to say that having just started watching your stuff, I find it great looking at your dress you look like a fur trapped with your buckskins and that fantastic jacket I wish I could have some off the clothing like yours. Long life stilliyan
27:55 interessting that you show how to remove the sapwood with simple methods. lot of bowyer say that native and stoneage people didnt know about it - you show the opposite.
Only when you did/do such a bow making process yourself you can see the secrets of success in it. It is, at least from my view, very satisfying and reassuring. This video makes it clearly visible... Keep up and stay safe
How many people can make a locust tree look like a 2X1 from home depot,..... the wood sounded hard and the axe sounded sharp and it looked like he knew what he was doing. That country boy can survive. I think he's saying screw the Archery industry,... he's going to make his own,...its cheaper.
That fletching style. First time I see. Very cool! I started making bows for my son because of your videos. Will try a grown up version soon! Thank you for posting these!
As an archer myself I always enjoy your archery videos. I wish I had the hands to make a bow like that. There is always a romance in a well made hand crafted instrument that is usable. Like your native american horn bow. masterpiece !!!!!!
Would you prefer to make a bow in a day using seasoned wood or green wood and fire dry and harden/temper it? Using rawhide as you did do you feel the twisted string is not only expedient but the best method to make a rawhide string?
having worked stuff from a fire place like that, that must have taken some work to cut out on that stump anvil, much respect. also you live in some awwesome bush . o and nice bow build also ;P ps after watching the cartridge shells i just have to say you should work out a system to put live bullet/shotgun carriage on end of arrow :) something like a shell in a tube with a pin resting on firing pin so when it impacts target, it fires off some deer shot :P not traditional i know but i just had to suggest it :P
Nice work as usual I’ve seen this video and other bow builds that you have done pure master was wondering if this wood is black locust cause I see a lot off oak leaves on the ground so I’m not sure can you tell me please 🙏🏼
You all can film really good to like the seens you come up with is grate you bi the fire with the bow dun was a perfect picture an the slow rotation away... skills 👍
Удивительно , кроме того что видео интересное само по себе , впервые вижу человека с таким же хватом тетивы как у меня. И показал хват наверное не просто так...
