Not something i do often, but an enjoyable day out at sea. we caught plenty bottom fish. AKA reef fish caught on the ocean floor.
We went out off st francis in the eastern cape, actually looking for yellowtail, but still a good day!
we cooked some for supper and it was delicious.

Preparing the fish for frying, alternative way: Our method is similar to this video except we flour the fish first and then lay in the egg, the other way round in other words. Also that way you can use a plastic packet for the flour and by shaking the sides of the packet this distributes and embeds the flour evenly, without messing. Throw the packet away with the remaining flour when you are done. One should salt the fish well a few hours before cooking. People don't realise how much salt fish can draw in. Salt adds to the flavour. An electric frying pan on around 11/12 out of 14 is perfect. I agree fish should not be cooked too hot and whatever you do, don't overcook fish. When cooking the fish, its meat side down first, skin, meat side again, then off to drain. You could use a braai bak with a rack to drain, instead of paper. Freshly caught fish should rest a day or two in a glass or porcelain dish in the fridge, basically post rigor mortis before cooking. Hake should rest on ice for at least 3 days from fresh, or it tastes strange/tasteless. Nothing like fresh fried fish. Super video, tight lines, thanks for sharing.

Is that a Sarragossa 10K you fishing with? What rod are your using with it? I have the 10k and with the Shimano Tevez medium heavy fast jigging rod (for jigging and bottom fishing). But looking for a lekka rod to throw plugs at tail on the boat.

@DuvanvanBreda 3 года назад
Hi Paul, yes a saragosa 10 with 40lb jdb ultra tough. Rod uses Kaibutsu GT pleasure. Definitely a good option
