I have now had the Red Sea 3 in 1 Reef ATO+ for 8 weeks so what better time to review this product. Is it a must have, a nice to have and is it unique in the ATO market.
What we know from the box is that it is not only an ATO but also monitors tank temperature and also has a leak detector too and all managed via the red sea app.
Take a look and see what you think

Nice overview of the ATO. Certainly one to consider for the future.

Thanks for watching. Certainly worth a look if you are looking for more than just an ATO and controllable via an app with alerts

Does this ATO support a schedule to where you can turn off or disable the ATO to perform an automatic water change? I ask because I seen no mention of it in the manual for this and my Apex does an AWC for me everyday.
@fishpalace
@fishpalace 10 месяцев назад
Not that I can see or find. You can turn off the atu but you would then need to switch back on via the app. If you are looking to auto water change then apex and dos doser is a good option

It's a good product. Compared to the Tunze 3155, the pump is much quieter. It also "primes" itself - so no need to shake the pump up and down after replacing the reservoir e.g. the next 25L container of RO/DI, to get the Tunze to be primed. The flow monitoring is accurate for me, because I calibrated it after setting it up. Apart from being an ATO, it allows the temperature to be monitored - with the D&D Controller and D&D Heater it shows that the regulation is very stable - nice to know. FWIW, the siphon break isn't required if the height of the RO/DI container highest level is below the height of the output in the Sump. I found that using the siphon break prevented any water being pumped to the Sump or (adjusting the height of the RO/DI container) for the delivery not to be accurate. A 25L container (for me) is below the height of my Sump top - so no need for the siphon break. The siphon break "fizzed/leaked" when used either way round, so couldn't be relied upon. I might need to get it exchanged. Measuring the delivered water sometimes shows big swings in daily use and it really drives home just how much evaporation there is especially in a bigger uncovered DT. I also use the "Check" water level feature after a water change. Added 25L of water, siphoned off 25L of water. Check the Return Chamber level. If the added/removed volumes don't match, then this also changes the salinity. The "check" water level feature lets you get this balance (in theory) just right e.g. take out/restore siphoned water before switching the auto top up back on. Turn Skimmer back on but leaving the ATO auto top off off, I wait for the DT Weir to stabilise and then add/remove water from the Sump until the Return Chamber is registering in the "normal" range of the ATO. Can now resume Auto top up. But for me, there is a problem because the "Check" water level can show that the level is below the required level but, repeating the test, that it is above the required level. That can't be right! It is almost like tossing a coin (semi-random). At best, it should indicate one of the four levels and then the next/previous one" because levels don't change that quickly in the Return Chamber. So the + in the name is justified by the extras and compared to other "premium" ATOs it doesn't cost any more. Simon

Great write up 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻. When I do a water change I turn off auto fill, turn return pump and skimmer on and once settled I can see what the water level is and then adjust. I keep water level just below the baffle so easy to see and that seems to work for me. Thanks for watching 👍🏻

Love Red Sea products, but for some reason I'm less excited about this one. How does the price compare? Enjoyed the video and a very balanced view. Big thumbs up from me 🙂👍

I was ok when I got it but the more I have used it the better it has seemed. The price is £180 and £200 with the bracket. It is not the best valued ATU but throw in temp monitor and that adds more value. The leak detector is a piece of kit that you never want to go off

@@joswalter1607 without the bracket. It fits snug as wedged between the return pipe and corners 👌🏻

I'm looking to get the same tank. With this ATO, where does the water level sensor go? The sump is built into the back of tank
@fishpalace

Thanks for watching 🙌🏻 The probe is in the return chamber next to the return pipe. One probe that measures temp and also level sensor

this work with freshwater?
@fishpalace
@fishpalace 11 месяцев назад
I see no reason why not as you pump RO into saltwater and with freshwater I assume it will be RO or tap water so the same. The probe sits in saltwater which is really corrosive so no reason why it won’t sit in freshwater. Certainly give you peace of mind with temp monitor
@foxglovemead
@foxglovemead 9 месяцев назад
it won't work with freshwater because the pins measure conductivity - so requires saltwater to "conduct" that won't happen with freshwater.
