With all the injuries and the incompetence from a tone-deaf ownership, the 2024 Red Sox are overperforming. Remember in the offseason Kennedy said they're looking long term and don't expect to compete in 2024, and this was after the BS " going full throttle" comments.

When I look at individual players rather than the team. Wilyer Abreu looks very solid as a ROOKIE, Rafaela just has his first multi HR game, Wong, Grissom, Duran definitely doing the job, Andrew Bailey have revolutionized this pitching staff, I really think we just have to be more consistent, but that will come with time.

Grissom is making a lot of solid contact. Remember he didn’t get a spring and came into the league battling the flu and losing 15 pounds. He is gonna take time. On top of that remember what Abreu looked like in his first 20 or so games? Many wanted him sent down now he’s your second most productive hitter

To me, the problem is an overall lack of vision. The comments & blame from the FO obfuscate what’s really happening. The FO lacks leadership. I don’t want to b told we’re a playoff contender. I want to be told how we’re gonna get there. I want to see competitive ball even if we don’t always win. What’s the plan? Is it to limp along while our young players get more experience for a 2025 breakout? The FO needs to figure something out so we can quit guessing. The fans deserve better.

Fans saying Henry needs to sell the team is a waste of breath. Henry is not selling a cash cow, so just dismiss this insane take. It seems very apparent this ownership is staying status quo until their youth arrive in 2-3 years. Sam Kennedy is a very poor frontman spokesman for the Boston Red Sox, every time he speaks he demonstrates how detached he is from reality and continues to piss off the fan base.

An example is Tyler O'Neill. They sign an often injured player and surprise, surprise he is out injured. To then say the team needs to step up to plug that hole but if they don't or can't they are under performing. That's not fair and disingenuous. Is it really fiscally advantageous to sign someone with a high risk of injury and then have to sign more players to fill that hole? I wouldn't think so.

This is why i won't go to any games or wear any memorabilia. There is ZERO reason that this team shouldn't be competiting for a world series every year. They ruined their own product by being cheap and trading Betts and destroying their previous championship team and doing barely anything to rebuild like a winning organization. Look at the Yankees and dodgers. Yes they built internally but they SPENT like winners because they have the resources just like the Red Sox. I still root for the players and Cora but this is disgusting

Well said Corbin!!! I for one am very pleased with the development of most of our young players. Valdez seems to be sending me a signal too. He's defended better this year and that bat of his is showing signs of further advancement. With another injury to Grissom today I think Valdez might very well get more time in. I try not to pay too much attention to Kennedy/Henry etc. Not completely happy with them. " They who often run off at the mouth often run amok". I didn't view the "under-performing" comment as being anything against the players. We have one of the top pitching staffs, both rotation and bullpen, and a top-10 offense. This usually produces a record much better than .500. The record doesn't reflect the stats. That's where the "under-performing" is. Personally, I see huge potential in the talent on this roster and would not be surprised if the record improves really soon.
@bobmessier5215

Corbin, I don't disagree and I feel your pain. However, we are living in times when no one takes responsibilities for bad or even a lack of good actions. We both knew in the offseason, that the front office was abandoning 2024 for 2025. A bridge year for guys like Mayer, Teel and Anthony. Playing .500 is still an improvement over last year. The injury bug to core players has cost the front office a ton of money in recent years. This year it was Story, Grissom, Yoshida, Whitlock and Casas. On the positive side, the pitching has been better than expected, though they'll need some good luck maintaining that for the rest of the season. Young guys like Duran, Houck, Abreu and Hamilton have stepped up and with more young players on the way, The acquisitions of Hendricks, Giolito, Grissom and Michael Fulmer were not the best plans/ideas for 2024, they could've done much more in the front office, but maybe they will still help next year. Maybe they could've restructured the contract of Ohtani like L.A. did, though at the cost of bleeding when his career ends or even Mookie etc. I'd have gone all out for Yamamoto, too. It is what it is. I shelled out big bucks to watch the Sox (here in Florida) and their affiliates on MLB/MiLB this season and I don't regret it. I've been a life-long fan since 1967, through the ups and downs. My father was a life-long fan before that and had to see Johnny Pesky let the World Series escape his grasp (held the ball) in 1946, when Slaughter scored from first on a damned single and Ted Williams batted .200, due to playing through an injury. I've seen several championships and two near-misses (1967/1986). I consider myself lucky. LOL Hang in there. I wanted to write a book about the Boston Red Sox, but between 1919-1966, they were doormats and an embarrassment to baseball. They didn't win The Impossible Dream season in 1967, but they've been competitive ever since. TB and Baltimore doesn't have big stars, but they figured out how to be winners.

i understand why we dumped sale, and even though sale is doing well, you can't fault the sox for that. what you can fault them for is that they jumped at the offer for anyone, and grissom is what they got. an often injured player who bats less than 200. i love jackie bradley jr in the field, but why did managment trade a high 30 home run guy like renfrow back for him? this management team boggles my mind. we didn't re-sign kyle schwarber, eovaldi, adam duvall, or any of the players that showed their worth. we chose to use our farm system players, and sign other less than average guys. this is what we get. a .500 team to the all star break that will implode at some point, and then we will sell for more prospects.

Valdez just his second HR today. That's not all of the story though. It's the location the pitchers were in. That's where his hole was when they sent him down. Inside 1/3 of the zone ...before today he had 127 pitches in this zone without making solid contact or getting a hit this year. ( He had 1 hit on a pitch inside and out of the zone ..an infield dribbler) . Watch his new strategy..he fixed it

Agree and am upset by this. Just doesn't seem to get it on air sometimes. I am watching the young players, checking box scores and highlights, looking at stats, and seeing how they stack up relative to other teams. Not watching any games. Definitely not going to Fenway. If they are ever going to get the message, fans should stop watching and stop giving them their hard-earned money. Terrible ratings and revenue might get their attention.

It’s no mystery the pitching is why they have been able to stay hovering at the competitive wild card level (.500) .again losing the 3-4-5 any team is going to struggle scoring runs. Win now teams make trades to fill the gap ..developmental payroll cautious teams try to scrape the cast offs from other teams to find some magic lightning in the bottle. Pretty easy to see which one of the aforementioned the Red Sox are in 2024.

They never will! They've proven that time after time. At the end of the day Many of the current roster has played their asses off and unfortunately BECAUSE ownership did not provide this team with the depth it needs this team will Likely end up out of the playoffs and likely with about 80 wins.

Well, his comment just reflects how ownership continues to seem disengaged with both the fans AND reality. Underperformed? So, is that supposed to purport that without injuries they'd be totally contending? Really? Your rewrite sounds about right. Well, perhaps it wasn't malicious, but it IS consistent with how ownership has acted since the day they fired Dombo. Oh, they DO want to contend... with a mid-level payroll. That's it, exactly, and they'll burn through GMs like fire tinder to do it. They've basically told everyone, from Breslow on down, "You guys better get with the program." And do we think Cora's recently-noted surliness isn't tied to this? I'm guessing he's being given the same message in private too. Did you notice Kennedy even took a subtle dig at the medical staff?
@petergarcia6645
@petergarcia6645 4 месяца назад
It shouldn't come as a surprise that ownership is tone deaf to the fan base. The main reason the team is underperforming is because ownership is cheap and they aren't willing to pay for a competitive team. It's interesting that even on the weekends they are not selling out I'm actually ok with that but unfortunately ownership is too tone deaf to get the message. I'm not holding my breath but maybe they will eventually want to pay for top players there's no easy answers it's been my view that ownership has been the biggest problem over the past few seasons !

For one Sam Kennedy is a YES man with no baseball experience there to rubber stamp ownerships decisions. Ownership will look to put blame on everyone else but themselves. Since 2019 when they made a conscience effort to stop spending $ so as to make JH trophy wife happy They fired DD because he was only interested in winning They hire Bloom once fans started to revolt with 2 last place finishes and 3/4 in last place they fire Bloom - they go about hiring another GM who was in over his head and will not push back because he’s just happy to have the GM job and now at end of year when they don’t make playoffs again they will not resign Cora. This has all to do with ownership not spending and a GM who is in over his head and will not push back. They needed to sign 1-2 starters they didn’t They needed a RH bat and did not act. The promising start was NOT a core of promising rookies but rather a weak schedule all it takes is a closer look at Rec Sox record vs teams with a > 500 record. They are what we thought they were a last place team

This is not an overreaction on your part. The most charitable interpretation of Sam Kennedy’s latest example of foot in mouth is that he is completely tone deaf. I am not nearly so charitable. He has played the I grew up in the shadow of Fenway Park and am a lifelong fan card. It rings hollow. Sam Kennedy is a corporate shill. He diverts blame anywhere and everywhere except where it belongs, namely ownerships deliberate and utter failure to invest in this team and hamstringing their front office. For his effort he receives a promotion. The additional wild card spot has been terrible for baseball. Now all these teams think they can play around 0.500 baseball and get hot at the right time to make a playoff run. There are about 8 really good teams and 6 really bad teams in MLB and the remaining 16 are in the mediocre middle vying for the 3rd wild card spot in their respective league. The Red Sox should aspire to be consistently in that top tier where it is not a question of if they will be in the playoffs, but how far they will go into October.
